Morning! I have this week off work :)

Lots of little jobs to catch up on today and tomorrow. Then on Wednesday I'm off to visit my friends in York for a few days. They've had a really tough time over the last couple of months so I'm hoping O and I will be more of a help than a hindrance!

MMM - sorry for poorlies.

tink - sounds like you had a great wkend

Hello to anyone else around :)

tinksbabyisnearly2 · 10/01/2011 15:43

hi ses

your week sounds good Grin enjoy

GingerbreadGiraffe · 11/01/2011 09:15

Hi everyone

V quick one from me.

Ses - enjoy your week off. I hope you get some time for you too!

Feeling Sad today- think i just dont want to be working.

Am thinking of buying DD a tots bots dolly nappy for her dolly :)

Rugbylovingmum · 11/01/2011 10:20

Morning all, v quick one from me too.

Giraffe - sorry you are feeling Sad today. Are you not enjoying your job or would you prefer to be a SAHM? Is there no way you could manage to give up your job?

I am feeling a bit Sad too, I really want to change my job but I don't seem to be any closer to deciding what I want to do or how to make the change. I've seen a careers advisor who was fairly useless and have e-mailed several 'friend of a friend' type people to see if I could chat to them about their job or shadow them for a day but only 1 negative response so far and no good ones. sorry to moan but today seems to be one of those 'one step forward, two steps back' kind of days.

Ses - enjoy your week off

Morning Tink.

GingerbreadGiraffe · 11/01/2011 15:02

Hi Rugby

Sorry you are fed up too. Did you previously think of teaching?

I hope you are able to decide on something to suit you better. Its such a difficult decision. How about becoming a midwife?! I love that idea myself but dont think i'd be that great at it.

I need to work unfortunately. I actually like my job a lot but I've got used to the time off over xmas with the SG.

Also she is being very much a daddies girl at the momement and Im feeling a bit left out which isnt helping. Its kind of gone beyond the point of it being a relief. Im now getting worried she will be really close to him as she grows up and not me Hmm I hope its a phase!

Hi everyone!

Rugbylovingmum · 11/01/2011 15:47

Hi Giraffe,

I know what you mean about going back to work - it has been really tough to leave DD at nursery after having so much time with her over xmas Sad. From watching my cousins and niece the daddy's girl thing never stops but it eases up after a little while so mummy gets a look in too. I know my auntie and SIL found it tough at this stage but it won't last long and of course she'll be close to both of you as she grows up! DD is still a real mummy's girl just now which can be annoying when she decides to cling all day but I bet I'll find it hard when she starts to want daddy all the time - I must remember to appreciate my little limpet Wink.

I have been thinking about teaching and I'm trying to arrange to shadow a teacher at one of the local schools to decide whether it's for me. I'm not totally convinced about it, not yet at least. The first 2-3 years are very intense and you need to do long hours so it might be something to come back to when DD (and any other DC) are at school. I'm also thinking about university admin positions related to research - I've e-mailed someone in the dept here to find out more about that. I'm also looking at making a complete change and doing something in finance rather than science - it would suit my problem solving/analytical skills and it's quite a common move for scientists from what I've read. I'm just trying to find out which qualifications I would need to start with. I just have so little knowledge about jobs outside of the lab Blush. I'll find something eventually, I'm just not very patient.

tinksbabyisnearly2 · 12/01/2011 12:09

morning still fairly quiet onhere

ginger sorry for Sad

rugby hi Grin
good luck on job hunt

GruffaloSoldier · 13/01/2011 23:11

Hi all!

Sorry I have been AWOL! Still getting over this flu just shaking off the last of the cough and congestion!

Still really tired and went back to work yesterday. Did 3 hours yest and 3 hours today. Thats it for this week and I am so glad as absolutely exhausted! 5 weeks to go til I am leaving for Maternity Leave.

Also discovered that I can no longer carry GC up and down the stairs in our flats. So basically I am in trouble when he decides to either not walk up or mess about. ( we are on 3rd floor - no lift) as he did yesterday and today! I coaxed him up eventually but is a nightmare!!!!

So it is a very good job that we had a viewing on Monday of our flat - cash buyer and she wants it so it looks like we will be moving out in about 4 weeks! Absolutely shocked! And oh so not ready to move (too much stuff) and need to find somewhere to live! Viewing two properties on Saturday. :)

Ses - hope you enjoyed your week off!

Gyo - sorry to hear you are feeling sad. GC has def gone through a phase of being a Daddy's boy and not wanting me when he was younger. Then in the last few months he has really become a Mummy's boy. If I go out of sight I hear "Mummy where are you??"

When I was ill he seemed to go back to being a Daddy's boy but as soon as I was well again and DH back at work all has returned to normal. I wouldn't sorry about SG, it is bound to be a phase. Just try and make sure the time you do spend with her is quality time (I'm sure you do this already!) and she will be secure with both of you. I am sure as she grows up she will become closer and closer to you too :). I hope everything gets back to normal for you soon.

Rugby - hope you sort the career change out soon. I would def contact local schools to go in and shadow. When I was looking into primary teaching it was usually expected that you had shadowing experience to get onto training and so you just contacted the school and asked to go in. Good luck anyway!:)

Right well I will try and get on again soon. NCT meal out tomorrow night. A third mum is expecting DC2 now aswell :) wondering if anyone else going to announce a pg?

Rugbylovingmum · 14/01/2011 09:53

Hurray Gruff GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin. I hope the sale goes through quickly and smoothly. Are you looking for somewhere to buy or are you going to rent first as you are on such a tight schedule? What are the places you are seeing like? It's great that you are recovering from the flu and hopefully the next 5 weeks will fly by.

I've contacted a few local schools but I'm still not sure that's really what I want to do. I hope this doesn't make me sound like a total slacker but the PGCE and training years sound like a lot of hard work, stressful and long hours and I just don't want to do it while C is so small (and we are hoping to have DC2 in the next couple of years). I struggle to put her in nursery for 4 days, 9-5 so I don't want to increase that and bring work home and be stressed. Maybe when she is older I'll rethink but these early years are too precious to miss out on. I know it's possible to do it but I don't think I want it enough.

tinksbabyisnearly2 · 14/01/2011 10:29

Rugbylovingmum · 14/01/2011 11:19

Hi Tink, hols in France sound great. I'm quite Envy. We are off to Centre Parcs next week - the Whinfell one - so I'm hoping that will be good but I'm hoping we can scrap together some money to go away for a week in the summer. I've never been to Centre Parcs before but it was very cheap just now and we just want to use the pool and softplay so it shouldn't matter that the weather is bad. It's my birthday next week so this is our little treat.

GruffaloSoldier · 14/01/2011 14:23

Hiya

Rugby - did you look into the Graduate Training Programme? You learn on the job and it takes just under a year. You also get a salary of around £14/15 while you work as unqualified teacher. Not as much studying involved as the PGCE! You have to have a degree in relevant subject for year you want to teach. Was yours Science? I'm pretty sure that you get some sort of incentive like golden hand shake on completion too. I can find you the link if you want?

Regarding the flat, we will def be renting as we don't want to buy at the moment, especially as I am about to finish work for the next couple of years. We are going to rent something not too expensive so we can still save and then buy in a couple of years (depending on the housing market). We have lost quite a bit of equity as we bought in 2007, but we are fortunate to have overpaid on our mortgage so will be coming out with a sum that can be banked until we need it.

We are going to view two properties tomorrow. One is an apartment in a beautiful area with fab schools and the other is a house in a small town, but still good area and good schools. (unlike where we are now where schools are bad and area not so good!)

Tink - hols sound nice. we think are going to brave camping for a few nights this summer on the south coast somewhere. We will probably go and stay with my mum in Scotland too.

Raining here aswell too! I did stupid thing this morning. went to Sainsburys because I had a voucher for kids TU clothing, and also they are doing their 1/3 off all the baby stuff. So I went there, bought loads of stuff and then when I got home realised I had forgotten to use the voucher :( what an idiot! Complete pg brain. The other day I accidentally signed DH's credit card instead of my own too- there is no hope for me is there?! Grin

tinksbabyisnearly2 · 14/01/2011 17:43

hi to anyone i have missed DIEGE, STAR, NJ, ...

Starshinetiger · 17/01/2011 10:41

Hi All, Really not getting much chance to post at the moment, but lurking regularly via my phone, e.g. when sitting waiting for DD to go to sleep of an eve.

Tink - yay for booking holiday - sounds fun and congrats for DD2's birthday this week - can't believe the babies are turning 2 already - where did the time go?!

Rugby - is tough trying to figure out next career steps isn't it. Am sure you will find a route into teaching - they always say they are crying out for teachers, especially science.

Gruff - congrats on finding a buyer and glad you have options for renting already. Hope you're fully recovered from the flu and the last trimester is not treating you too badly. Is such an exciting time but I remember it's tough too - hope that GC is being good for you still (as good as nearly 2 year old boys can be Grin) - yay for mat leave in 6 weeks time!

GYo - hope that you've settled back into work now and that you got some quality time with DD on the weekend. Must be tough with her being a Daddy's Girl now, but you know it won't last forever...

MMM - good to see you back on here. Hope DS is not too ill today and her recovers soon.

Right, have a little bit of unexpected down time, as DD fell asleep in car on way back from Tescos (up since 5.40am) and DS is at nursery, so hoping her coughing doesn't wake her any time soon and I can get some jobs done (am sure that is final last words...)

Hi to Diege, Ses (hope you had a good week off), Can't, NJ, Sorky, Moos, Kayz and anyone else who might be lurking - sorry if I missed anyone.

essenceofSES · 17/01/2011 16:41

Hello everyone!

Gruff - great news on the sale of your flat! Hope everything goes through smoothly.

Tink and MMM - what do you have planned for the upcoming birthdays?!

Oh tink - could I have a Neighbours update? Last I saw, Steph was told she was guilty but I didn't see the sentencing?

Rugby - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Hope you have a great time at Center Parcs. We loved it when we went last year.
All sounds like difficult decisions about what to do. Seems like you're not happy at the moment though so it's just a question of finding the best solution. Hope you get some support in terms of shadowing. Worth looking at Gruff's suggestion of the Graduate Training Programme?

GYo - O really seemes a Daddy's boy over Christmas but now he's being a real mummy's boy so I'm sure your turn will come!

Star - good to hear from you. Hope all is well with you.

Hello everyone else - Diege, Cant, Nat and anyone else lurking

I had a great week off :) Trip to York was great. DS was a star and we had such fun together :)

essenceofSES · 18/01/2011 08:29

cantmummyhaveabreak · 19/01/2011 08:13

Morning-

Happy Birthday to Bracken!! :)

Had the MOT yesterday- wasn't good at all!! will cost around £315!! Was hoping it'd be less that what we'd expected but alas no luck!!

will be 27weeks on friday- it's flying by- but tbh I just can't wait to be back to me. I'm feeling so bloody grumpy and fed up!!

Right- DD has finished her breakfast so best dash before she tips the milk all over!!

essenceofSES · 19/01/2011 08:20

Happy birthday Bracken!!!!
tink - I hope you all have a great day and a fantastic party on Sunday :)

Morning Cant - 27 weeks! You're right it is flying by! I hope the remaining weeks do too.

Hello everyone else - hope you're all ok?

Day off here so off to Jo Jingles later this morning and then meeting one of the other mmums from nursery at a new place that's opened nearby called "Heaven". I think it's a place that does coffee and cake but with a creche area. I think you can also get some basic beauty treatments there as well. All sounds a bit selfish to me but if the creche is a good one, maybe it's something O and I will both enjoy!

tinksbabyis2 · 19/01/2011 18:22

thanks ses

dd2 only having a small party sat sorry with our parents
she has had a great time today
opened her pressies after dd1 went to school then we fed ducks in town and had lunch out
have just done tesco shop Grin

hi cant not long now what u r doing is amazing

Diege · 19/01/2011 20:41

Hello! Have been reading but really struggling to find the time to post, so apologies for my rather brief comments (and also if I muddle people up/miss anyone out!).
CANT agree that your pregnancy seems to be flying. I know what you mean about wanting to get back 'to yourself' too.
RUGBY I think you are being very honest with yourself about hat you want out of a future career. I think you would make a great teacher, but it is tough (I've taught on the PGCE years ago). I mean to be totally honest, it's not the toughest of courses to do, but it's mega touch if you're not sure it's right for you, so I think you're right to give it some serious thought. Things may have changed since I taught on it, but if there's anyhting I can answer just shout Smile
*GRuff( how annoying about the voucher! Can you use it anohter time perhaps? (though I see how that totally defeats the object Grin
Star how are things?
GYO ds is a total daddy's boy so I understand a little of what you feel. I thought boys were supposed to be mummy's boys? Hmm
SES the cafe sounds good fun! Not sure I'd kike the screech of toddlers in the background when I was getting my bikinin line waxed though Grin Are we still cycle buddies? (cd 13, ov expected soon-ish based on opks)
LOve to all, and I'll try and keep up better!

Diege · 19/01/2011 20:43

Tink!!! I didn't man to miss you out Grin. Many happy returns to Bracken. I'm sure she has been inundated with presents Grin. I can't believe we have toddlers on the wagon; where has the time gone?
