Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tarlia · 22/09/2010 11:55

Haha, congrats Byron, you can breath at last!

Sorry, I missed the newbies, welcome to the group!

I cannot believe we are nearly through another whole thread! We must be the chattiest group in antenatal!?

Oneof4 · 22/09/2010 14:10

Thank heavens I'm not the only one missing out on the energy and blooming. The books make it sound as though it's an on-demand benefit!

Finally feel like I'm shaking off the flu today, which is brilliant, particularly as I'm meant to be flying to Australia to see my little sister and oldest friend next Friday. It's a 'last chance' adventure before I join the Dark Side of Motherhood...carefully planned to coincide with the energy and blooming, of course! Has anyone else got a holiday planned? Check out those utterly gorgeous maternity swimming costumes Hmm before you go...

americanexpat · 22/09/2010 15:00

byronic - congrats on the boy! And quite a relief that all is well.

Is there anyone who's actually blooming!? I nipped out of work early yesterday for a much needed nap. I have slightly more energy than 1st tri but certainly not the burst that was promised. My bump is getting massive, I'm digging deep into my wardrobe to find tops that still cover it. I imagine I'll be nearly spherical by January.

alimamma · 22/09/2010 15:44

Hello everyone!

Just joined...both the website and the thread - due on Feb 12th. Am 30, with partner but was a complete surprise...still very much acclimatising to whole idea and whole 'old me' becoming the new (hopefully) motherly me/ life changing dramatically etc.!! Thought this might help and maybe can even offer advice at some point to others...although not feeling a great example of pregnancy at the moment!

Like many of you, not feeling blooming at all...feel I look worst I have in ages and to top it off energy levels are really low and have a fresh crop of angry red spots every day...great! Am trying to be positive...I can manage to look not-so-scary with some make-up...and maybe this will pass!

Am starting to get a sort of bump, but only seems to really show after food, as I get really bloated...but can feel the little one move sometimes! It's interesting to hear u guys speaking about bumps and to hear how they are going...I can't quite imagine having a proper one yet!

Have found out that I am having a boy, as didn't have the dating scan until 3 weeks ago and have anomaly scan next week.

Oneof4 metionned holidays... I have the same attitude and am trying to get away as much as possible before stepping over to the Other Side:)) Am going to Spain for 10 days in October and Italy for 10 days in November...and spent most of the summer on the beach...savouring the fact that I only had me to worry about and from next year onwards it will be a high-risk hotspot! If you can get away, I say GO! I think it will be fun to tell the baby where I went while he was in my tummy too. Australia is a pretty great story to tell!

Look forward to hearing updates from people and general advice...I need all the advice I can get!

take care!
sorry post is sooo long!

Tarlia · 22/09/2010 17:00

Welcome Alimamma, I hope you enjoy the group as much as I do.

I'm just back from getting my haircut - it was booked before ill, I would have had to pay anyway so went - apparently, I have pregnant hair. The male hairdresser suddenly exclaimed, "are you pregnant!?" after my hair had been washed and he was combing through, to which I said I was. He pulled out a strand to show me, underneath I have the most amazing, almost afro curled hair, teeny tiny spirals. Pretty impressive - get your hairdresser to look next time you go!

grigglepuff · 22/09/2010 17:01

I'm off to Paris this weekend- is it too early to be worrying about taking pregnancy notes with me? It's only for a weekend but my (annoying) mw said I should carry them everywhere which clearly at this stage Im not going to do... I'm going away to the lake district in Nov and will tale them with me then but that's aaages away. What's everyone else doing?

Hi alimamma I'm sure you'll get loads of advice on here- everyones really supportive!

Where are all the newbies from? I'm so nosey and desperate to find out if there are any north londoners like me :)

Xx

Wanderingsheep · 22/09/2010 17:01

Helloooo!

God you gobby lot have been chatting loads since yesterday morning! Wink

Welcome Alimama and congratulations on your boy!

Jackinthebump, two girls! How lovely Smile

Byronicherione, congratulations on your little boy too!

It sounds like we're getting an equal number of boys and girls so far! Smile

My SIL had her little girl in the early hours of this morning! Grin it's making me excited for mine now!

I've done feck all today! DD had her first full day at Preschool

Wanderingsheep · 22/09/2010 17:04

Grigglepuff, if you'd have asked me a couple of months ago, I would have been in North London too but I'm oop North now! Smile

EauRouge · 22/09/2010 17:07

Hi Alimamma, welcome to mumsnet and the February thread Grin Congrats on your boy.

I don't think I changed that much personality-wise when DD was born but your lifestyle definitely will change! Loads of things are better though, you will have a legitimate excuse to do childish things like have water fights and go and feed the ducks in the park.

Your holiday plans sound fab, which parts of Italy and Spain are you going to?

Wanderingsheep · 22/09/2010 17:15

I always find it funny when you see parents on the see-saw and going down the big slides at soft play. All in the name of assisting their DC, of course! Wink

angels1 · 22/09/2010 17:37

grigglepuff I'm not taking my notes anywhere other than mw's at the minute (I completely forgot to take to GP and she never asked anyway). I wrote a strand a few weeks ago on pg forum about if people take theirs everywhere, as my mw was insistant I must take them everywhere I go from day 1. It seems according to mn people don't generally lug them about until 3rd tri, and even then not everyone takes everywhere. If it were me going to Paris I'd probably take them with me just to be on the safe side though...

welcome newbies and great to hear more good scan news :) and v. jealous of exciting sounding holidays. My last holiday was a very wet honeymoon in april...it seems like it was a lifetime ago.

pregnancy hair? oh, must look out for that. Must book haircut actually - havent' had mine cut in nearly 7 months Blush looks a right state but felt too rubbish to book appointment up until now.

wandering sheep there's a nature reserve type place very near us that is set up for children (with animals there etc) and DH and I go there sometimes but feel a bit Confused like we don't belong as we are a couple and it's only families there - we have joked that we can now visit the nature reserve when we have a DC and not feel like we stand out too much. CAn't wait to legitimately feed ducks and play on playgrounds too :)

wigglesrock · 22/09/2010 17:41

Hi all, well dd2 has now has 2 days of playgroup and I am already relegated to the role of annoying person who drives me to my new favourite place!!! (at the age of 2!!) Really pleased at how well she has taken to it. I brought her up to my mums so she could see her in her uniform and my mum started to cry, strange because I seem to remember her collapsing into tears of joy when my sister and I went to school.

Tarlia I have tiny ringlets underneath my "proper" hair. I always lose hair after the baby is born and these little curls are left refusing to grow out!!

Byron Congrats on the scan - in-laws must be over the moon, by mil was so excited when I had dd1, she had 3 sons and always wanted a girl in the family. After 2 girls I think I am now quits in with the will Wink

knittakid · 22/09/2010 17:48

Thank tarlia for explaining the hair thing! I am so fed up with mine, which is already very curly, and now it is just completely out of control (not having energy to wash it does not help...)

Re maternity wear, bought two big tops yesterday at H&M (not maternity-specific) and some leggins or jeggins, whatever they are. My boobs didn't fit into any top my size, which I really enjoyed!

Re bf. can't you do somethign else while bf? do you have to be perfectly still? just thinking ahead in case I need to buy lots and lots of books.

Oneof4 · 22/09/2010 18:26

Grigglepuff - my mw specifically asked me not to take the notes with me on holiday as "they're all we've got". No idea what they've ben tapping into the computer, then... She did suggest just jotting down the key points - blood type, last two blood pressures, phone numbers etc... and taking those which makes a lot more sense to me.

Can't wait for the DH to get home and investigate whether my hair is behaving oddly under the top layer Tarlia!

EauRouge · 22/09/2010 18:39

knittakid, if you learn to breastfeed in a sling then you can do all sorts. I am determined to master it this time, I didn't really try last time as I quite enjoyed all the lying around Grin but this time I will be chasing after a toddler. This seems like good advice.

ledkr · 22/09/2010 20:30

Hi all.Wecome new people i cant go back thru that lot to remember names but helooo.
pinky i taught tap when pg with dd now 8. I sat on a chair at the end, not this time tho.
Please dont shout at me ladies but i am glowing. Skin beautifull, wrinkle free and clear, feel fairly energetic and just generally well...ducks to avoid thrown objects. I do have headaches heartburn and constipation but feel very well despite that. I do think everyone should have a work colleague like mine who moans constantly and does nothing at 10wks pg cos it makes you feel great.
Whoever said the v shaped pillow yes i found that great with dd i must dig it out. I think they are under a fiver in argos.
I am off to h and m tomorrow to try and get some mat clothes as i feel a scruff bag at the moment and my mat jeans are digging into my belly(bad design)had a scary moment with the dopler earlier but found it eventually phew!I just dont feel her move much due to anterior placenta probably just lazylaid back like her dad.
question for prof do you think there is any benefit from hipp organic formula or is it a gimmick.

moonminmama · 22/09/2010 20:39

evening ladies. I havent been on in a while, been mad busy (or sleeping ) went for a 'nap' last night at 5.30 to give me some energy to do the million jobs i have and was woken at 6.30am this morning by ds!! Cant believe i slept all night!

Thanks you for the good luck wishes for ds first day at school. He is loving it. Even went to breakfast club this morning (which he will have to do every day from monday onwards) and he really enjoyed that too because the 'older girls said he was a little cutey'Grin

Welcome to the newbies. As has already been said, I hope you get as much help/enjoyment from this thread as i have!

I have built a set of drawers this evening for LOs new bedroom. I like to be organised. My friends think im mad! Ds wasnt due until mid sept but i had his nursery completely finished during my Easter school holidays. I am going to ask my dad (who is a painter and decorator) to come decorate the nursery while i am off over oct half term. A few friends and family have bought/given us things for our LO already. Our family are so excited because the family is dominated by boys, so me having a girl is a pretty big deal.

i wanted the drawers because everything is currently on the floor in the spare room/nursery.

wiggles im glad your dd has taken so well to playgroup. My ds loved nursery, but then he was there from neing 5 months old Sad dd will be going to nursery at 7 months. I am trying not to think about it too much because it makes me feel so Sad am already stressing myself about the childcare situation after she is born as i am having to go back to work for 7 weeks before my school break up for the summer (for financial reasons) Im dreading it!!

Just noticed a few other people are as nosey as me about where peole are from. Would anyone be interested ina meet up before we all get too fat/tired/busy to get together? I went to a meet up when DS was very little. It was great getting to know some of the other mums. I am still in touch with a couple of them. have to admit though it is a little scary! We would maybe need a couple as we seem very spread out! I would be more than haapy to sort out something ooop norf Grin

hope everyone is weel Sorry for uber long post, i am usually on iphone so dont get much space to write before my writing becomes invisible. Am on laptop tonight so have got a little carried away Smile

zerominuszero · 22/09/2010 21:56

moonminmamma I am in a similar situation childcare-wise, we just can't afford anything but to go straight back to work as soon as possible. We can't even afford to do the NCT, which is a shame as I quite wanted to.

I'm hoping MIL will be able to take baby for one or two days, but even in the best case scenario he or she will have to go to nursery from six months, for at least a day or two a week. And it won't even save much money in the end as it's quite expensive.

Sorry, rant over. I got all Angry for a moment

wigglesrock · 22/09/2010 21:57

Well I had to admit defeat and ran to M&S this evening to get some leggings! Was still ok in normal jeans but all of a sudden really uncomfy. Also seem to having quite a lot of ligament pain over last few days and can feel the baby move especially late in the afternoon!!

Ps don't hate me but my skin is really good at the minute, my hair also seems to be in really good condition after a couple of months of seeming really greasy, however the grey seems to have multiplied.

Sam2302 · 22/09/2010 22:10

Hello ladies!

Hope you are all doing well. I had the anomaly scan today. Thankfully, everything was great, as it should be and we found out we're going to be having a little boy! Very excited (although I had a hunch all along that it would be a boy) and now trying to refer to the baby as a "him" rather than as an "it". Prof would you be kind enough to update the stats with this info?

I have been feeling lots of kicking in the last 10 days which everyone seems to be a bit surprised about due to this being my first baby. Even the sonographer looked a bit dubious when I told her that I had been feeling it kicking and even my husband had been able to feel it, sorry HIM, kick in the last 10 days. She still looked surprised so when she was doing the scan, the baby promptly kicked her probe twice quite hard and she felt it! Baby already protecting mummy. I like it. :-)

Hope you all have a good night!

xx

Wanderingsheep · 22/09/2010 22:44

Sam, glad your scan went well! Lol at your little boy kicking the probe, bless him. Congrats on your little lad!

Right, all you lot with lovely skin, can you just bugger off please! Envy It's not fair! My face looks like a pizza! My hair's alright though!

tadjennyp · 23/09/2010 01:22

Congratulations on your scan Sam! Most of us must be half way there now! That's really exciting!

linz17xxx · 23/09/2010 07:48

Hi all. Had my scan yesterday. Everything looked great and we found out we are having another girl :) she is obviously goin to have lots of hair like her sister as I am crippled with heartburn ha ha. We are so excited! Just need a name now. Congrats to everyone else on their scans. Now i'm half way there I'm goin to start buying...i love white frilly dresses and knitted cardigans for girls :)

EauRouge · 23/09/2010 08:27

wanderingsheep, don't worry, I've got awful skin too, worse than when I was a teenager!

Congrats on great scan news to Sam and linz :)

I've finally got a date for mine! 5th of October. My mum won't be able to look after DD so I'll have to find someone else or I'll be going on my own...
