LCRLCR · 18/08/2010 15:04

Don't you want to throttle the next well-meaning individual who suggests a curry / shag / pineapple?

Alicetheinvisible · 18/08/2010 15:07

Grin I have just told anyone who suggests these things that actually the only thing that has any chance of working is sex. The others are just designed to give you the shits and isn't that just adding insult to injury? Normally shuts them up!

marzipananimal · 18/08/2010 15:22

lol, at least I like curry and pineapple!
How many times to you reckon you need to have sex for it to have an effect? Or is it just another case of 'if you're about to go into labour anyway it might set it off, otherwise it won't do anything'?

Trifle sounds yummy vix. I'm about to potter off to the kitchen and make rum truffles :)

marzipananimal · 18/08/2010 15:23

haha, just realised that makes it look like i'm saying i don't like sex (although tbh at the moment ... Blush)

Alicetheinvisible · 18/08/2010 15:30

The idea with sex is that you get a rush of oxytocin, orgasm that triggers contractions and prostaglandin from the semen, so all technically able to kickstart labour, but if you are not ready, then it won't start it (i believe)

Bags are packed, trashy mags are purchased, M&S has been raided, DD has had lots of attention (bought new books for her so we have been reading) and childcare all organised.

Still to do: Tidy up, make a huge lasange(sp?) for dinner, write out all emergency numbers/instructions etc Get DD bathed and bed early enough, do my hair Blush and tajke off my toenail varnish Sad

vix206 · 18/08/2010 15:43

People keep telling me to enjoy my last few days of peace and make the most of sleep. SLEEP? I haven't slept more than 3 hours in a row since April thanks to severe hip pain. And as for enjoying the peace, sod that I want my baby!!

Chulita · 18/08/2010 17:17

vix as irritated as I am by Sam's constant need to be sucking either my nipple or my finger and as much as I'd love to sleep for a bit longer at a time, I'd never trade this for being 9 months pregnant! People who say that have either forgotten what's it's like or have never been heavily pregnant! (and can I have some of your trifle please?)

alice good luck for tomorrow!

aussie have they suggested anything for J's jaundice?

We just let Sam cry himself to sleep and I hated it. It took him about half an hour of really, really hard crying :( It wasn't a deliberate thing, he'd been in my arms all afternoon wanting to suck my finger (he won't take a dummy and wasn't hungry) and I just had to get on and get DD some food, put a wash on and pick up the hedgehog poo in the garden otherwise DD would've given up waiting for lunch and chowed down on wildlife turds and I'd have had to turn my knickers inside out for tomorrow. Putting him in a carrier isn't an option cos he still wants to suck so he screams right in front of my face until I shove one in and then it triggers my letdown which is really painful [sigh] 2nd child has to suffer a bit I suppose.

bouncingblueberries · 18/08/2010 17:57

Totally agree with you chulita despite the thrush, the severe lack of sleep and feeling like I permanently have my boobs on show, I wouldn't swap it for being 9 months pregnant either! Visited a friend yesterday who is 8 and a half months pregnant and I just wanted to tuck her up in bed - she looked exhausted!

Huge comedy breastfeeding moment this afternoon. We went to a national trust property for a picnic and of course right in the middle of my egg sarnies, G woke up screaming for a feed. So I very carefully latched him on, trying to be a discreet as possible, but not too worried as we were outside with no-one too close by to cop an eyeful of boob. Trouble is, I have quite a forceful let-down and G decide to have a little fuss and popped off the boob. dh came over to see what was happening just as I touched my boob to get G back on. Cue an enormous squirt of breastmilk that must have traveled about a meter away in a comedy arc! Just as well we weren't seated in the cafe - someone would have had some extra milk in their tea!!! dh and I almost wet ourselves!

Good luck for tomorrow alice

And for anyone that's planning on using hypnobirthing, how about this for inspiration!

vix206 · 18/08/2010 18:04

Thanks for the link blueberries, I will devour that now (as I am indeed using hypnobirthing techniques!)

Getting lots of strong twinges today, and feel a bit like I've been kicked in the undercarriage. That's got to be good right? :)

ElusiveMoose · 18/08/2010 18:06

Hi all,

Sorry, this is going to be a bit of a 'me' post - haven't had much time to catch up. I've had an interesting day. About 10am, I went to the loo and found a tiny bit of blood (but not accompanied by any gunge). Phoned the hospital expecting them to say 'fine', but they said any blood at all is unusual, so I had to come in. Went in, spent an hour being monitored and poked about, then had an internal by such a junior doctor that, when I asked her if she could see what state my cervix was in, she said she couldn't see it, but even if she could, she wasn't experienced enough to be able to assess it Hmm. Anyway, they thought the blood probably was a show of some sort, so they discharged me.

Half way back home in the car, I started having pretty painful contractions, which have continued ever since. So basically, I think I'm in early labour, though so far the contractions haven't really got any worse or closer together. I decided to summon my parents anyway, so they're now here, which makes me much happier from a DS point of view (though is also quite irritating in other ways). But the bad news is that, when I was at the hospital, I discovered that they're on divert at the moment because they're so busy, so if they're still like that when I go in, I'm going to have to drive much further to a hospital I've never been to before Sad. Really hoping they've quietened down by the time I get to that stage.

Good luck to anyone else who might be starting off today (and good luck for tomorrow, Alice - we could be birth date buddies!), and I'll check in again when I can.

soontobefatnat · 18/08/2010 18:21

Gosh, good luck Elusive Hope things come along nicely for you, and that the hospital sort it aht and make some space too.

LittleMissSnowShine · 18/08/2010 18:34

Wow, elusive, sounds a bit dramatic/stressful. Glad things seem to be progressing but hope you manage to get to go to the hospital you want and everything else goes smoothly after this slightly rocky start. Good luck!!

Alice, sorry, good luck for tomorrow instead!! Hope you managed to get well rested and unwound this afternoon tho :)

LCR "Don't you want to throttle the next well-meaning individual who suggests a curry / shag / pineapple?" Yes!! Curry/pineapple/raspberry leaf tea all completely nightmarish for anyone with bad heartburn and altho I'll prob give sex a go tonight just to show willing i have to confess with my wrecked pelvis, stretch marks, heartburn and massive bump i'd probably rather not!!!

vix - good news on the twinge front, tho i've been getting undercarriage kicks for a good few days now and nothing further Hmm

Baked a lovely banana loaf with some sultanas soaked in bourbon - here's a slice for everyone!! Good luck to all with babies in transit!

vix206 · 18/08/2010 18:37

Good luck elusive! LittleMiss, I've also been getting kicks in the undercarriage for days, this is different. What I mean is I feel like someone has kicked me very hard there - like a bruised swollen feeling that is definitely new! Fingers crossed for all of us waiting (im)patiently!

girlsyearapart · 18/08/2010 19:32

congrats on the arrival of baby zoe! my sister and niece both have middle name esme too Smile

Good luck elusive and alice.

sparkle101 · 18/08/2010 19:53

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update as on the infamous i-phone to say that baby Isabelle Louise arrived at 0054 this morning.

Will post more when back at home. Suffice to say labour wasn't as ad as I thought it would be. Or have I forgotten alredy.

Good luck to those on their way.

LizzieA · 18/08/2010 20:17

Congratulations Sparkle
Good luck Elusive and Alice

Still nothing here!

Aussieng · 18/08/2010 20:22

Chulita I'm not too sure at the minute - i guess it depends on the blood test results. When we first noticed he was jaundiced I was told that so long as he was feeding well it should clear up within 2 weeks. He is feeding well, aining weight etc but still jaundiced so they wanted to do bloods to see if it is real jaundice or just breast-feeding jaundice. If the latter (which I am hoping) then i guess they wont do anything. You have to have a lot of faith in breast-feedin to perservere with it don't you? If it's so good for human babies wouldn't you think nature would have made it less challenging??????

Good luck Alice & Elusive.

vitapulchra · 18/08/2010 20:35

Congratulations Sparkle and Jessie, fabulous news!

Oooh congrats Sparkle! And meant to say Chulita that it seems to me that sometimes you do have to do these things and I imagine that goes doubly for those of you with other little ones.

LittleMiss - any sign of your cat yet? (Sorry if I am bringing up something you are trying not to think about).

cazzybabs · 18/08/2010 21:29

Congrautions - Sparkle I have an Isabelle too - Great name

Doodleydoo · 18/08/2010 21:33

Elusive where are you? Are you having baby at Maidstone by any chance? Don't know your situation but am half way between ashford and maidstone and they said that I could get diverted to Pembury...... miles away!!!!!! But they did also say I could request going to Ashford instead and they would try and put me through there instead. HTH

CellyD · 18/08/2010 23:50

Just popping on to say my little girl was born this morning (18Aug) weighing in at 6lb 8oz. Birthplan flew right out the window, but I guess it doesn't really matter because LO is healthy and that's the important thing. Will post when I get home as we are being kept in over night.

Congratulations to all the recent new Mums.

CellyD · 18/08/2010 23:53

Forgot to say born at 10:39am for the next time the arrivals list is updated.

ElusiveMoose · 19/08/2010 01:15

Hi all,

Well, it's me burning the midnight oil tonight, though I do have a good reason Grin. Anyone else on the night shift?

First off, huge congratulations to Sparkle and Celly. Lovely name, Sparkle. Celly, I'm guessing you haven't decided on a name yet? Looking forward to hearing your birth stories.

Doodley ha ha, I'm the opposite of you! I live about 5 miles outside Tunbridge Wells, and I'm booked into Pembury, but this afternoon they were on divert to Maidstone Grin. Pembury is obviously a bit of a building site at the moment, but the staff are lovely, and I'm familiar with it, so I do hope I get to go there. I'm sure Maidstone is just as nice (and probably a lot less falling apart), but it's just a bit further away and I've never been there before.

Well, my birth story is still rumbling on. Still in 'early labour' or whatever you want to call it; contractions every 5-10 minutes, lasting anywhere between 30 and 60 seconds. Strong enough to be reasonably painful, but still perfectly manageable at the moment. So far this is a carbon copy of my labour with DS - long early labour which doesn't go anywhere for ages. I thought second labours were supposed to be quick!! As long as it doesn't end up the same as DS's (ventouse and retained placenta), that's fine Grin. Not sure what to do with myself at the moment - contractions are too frequent/painful to be able to sleep, but I'm not sure I should be trying to be too active in case I've got hours and hours still to go.... Might phone the delivery suite and ask for their advice.

See you later. xx

girlsyearapart · 19/08/2010 07:53

morning congratulations sparkle and celly hope you are enjoying lovely morning snuggles with your new arrivals Grin

aussie I know what you mean about the breastfeeding being a challenge.. the actual feeding is fine got the hang of it more this time but she will only settle for an hour max afterwards as opposed to 3-4 on a bottle.
not very practical with 2 toddlers..

elusive here's hoping you get things moving soon and avoid retained placenta. I had it with dd2 and had mrop in theatre with spinal. Had it this time but doctor managed to get it out at the last minute- could've kissed her!
