vix - "I am a control freak and the fact that I have no control whatsoever over how/when it will start and what will happen is really starting to bother me." Totally! House clean, bags packed, baby clothes washed... ho hum. I find it hard to just lie around with my feet up tbh tho I keep trying to tell myself to enjoy the opportunity to do it since it'll be gone soon. But having no control over when it's all going to happen is driving me mad!!

pample - ouch poor you! first half of my pregnancy i always seemed to have ligament pain around bump, prob from the 24/7 projectile vomiting Wink Not the most comfortable feeling!

neenz - I'm exactly the same - I hate having to ask DH to do stuff all the time because even though he keeps telling me he doesn't mind doing whatever needs doing and it's not nagging if I just tell him what he needs to do, I can't help but feeling like a constant stream of instructions barked out by me would start to get quite annoying! But then not having the jobs done annoys me so I try and get them done myself. Slowing down significantly this week tho, cos I just don't have the energy for washing windows and clearing out cupboards. Guess some stuff will just have to wait til after LO arrives...

elusive - after my curry and pineapple last night i had an extremely sleepless night and now i have back ache too! not sure if that's more to do with spending hours on the couch rather than tucked up in bed tho lol Good luck, tho, hope this is the big event starting for you!!

I've had IBS for a few years which has pretty much disappeared with pregnancy woo hoo! My IBS usually flares up when my period is about to arrive and I get really achey cramps in my lower back/abdomen etc. Sharp twinges I've been having down below since the weekend seem to have subsided yesterday and today to be replaced with these gnawing cramps. Fingers crossed! But MW at hospital did warn everyone that these can go on for a couple of weeks before anything really happens. And I haven't had a show or anything. But can't help wishfully thinking that something is about to happen - don't want LO to be born on Fri 13th tho!!

vix206 · 12/08/2010 17:51

I've just gone on a mad nesting splurge girls! I've cleaned every drawer and cupboard out in the kitchen and ended up with 2 full bin bags of stuff....

Either iron tablets are finally kicking in or this is my energy burst before labour!! :)

starshaker · 12/08/2010 18:31

Last night went really well and managed to get 3 hours sleep this afternoon (my mum is staying). Im just taking it easy and not overdoing it like i did yesterday (suffering for it now). My mum has taken dd to the park so this is the first time ive been totally on my own with them but they are both sleeping so its fine

thecoffeelady · 12/08/2010 18:36

Well I am back from seeing the consultant at the hospital and I am being induced tomorrow morning.

This is good in a way

  1. I get to meet the new baby soon
  2. It's a nursery day so that means that DDs day is not too disrupted as I can still take her to nursery. 3)The waiting and guessing will soon be over

but
1)I didn't want to be induced
2)It's Friday 13th
3) I am panicking about who will pick up DD from nusrery
4)Who will have DD over the weekend
5)when I was induced with DD it still took from 4pm on sunday until 5:04am on the Tuesday and I can't stand the thought of being away from DD for that long

But on a positive note, suggestions for my last supper would be good, before I have to go in to hosp and eat rank skanky hosp food!

Alicetheinvisible · 12/08/2010 19:02

Coffee sorry for being nosy, but why are they inducing you?

vitapulchra · 12/08/2010 20:11

Best wishes Coffee and Palace with your inductions tomorrow. Will be thinking of you and hope all goes well.

OP posts:
thecoffeelady · 12/08/2010 20:35

alice the consultant in her 'infinite wisdom' thinks that this is a big baby and doesn't want me to go too overdue. She thinks this despite the midwife saying 8lb - 9 1/2lb and the consultant has never even examined me! Shock Confused

I really didn't want to be induced but I am trying to find the positives in the situation. I guess at least this way I know that (hopefully) this time on Saturday I should have had the baby and we are on our way to being a family of 4Smile

I have decided on Pizza and a REAL beer for tea tonight.

vita thanks for your good wishes!

Ladies I will keep you posted.....

girlsyearapart · 12/08/2010 20:41

good luck with the inductions tomorrow.

coffeelady I know what you mean about the friday 13th thing- I have an appointment to have Tilly's hearing test tomorrow and it's at a clinic on a rough estate can't say I was thrilled at the prospect..

marzipananimal · 12/08/2010 21:41

Good luck for tomorrow!
I'd love my baby to come tomorrow despite it being fri 13th as it's my sister's birthday and I think it would be nice for them to share it. Not very hopeful though, but have planned curry and (maybe) sex tomorrow night so we'll see!

Glad you've got your mum to help you star. Hope you get some more good sleeps

weehector · 12/08/2010 23:38

Really good luck tomorrow coffee & palace - hopefully this time tomorrow you'll have babies to snuggle up to. coffee all things considered, it sounds like induction really is the best way round your logistics headache re DD...you'll be back home as a family of 4 before you know it. Apologies for not getting the slice & tablet down in time for the 'last supper'.. :)

We've had a fab day here - I shamelessly copied mrszac by going for an Aveda mum-to-be treatment today. She was sooo right about it...absolutely blissful & I've been floating on a cloud of cinnamon all day whilst ignoring the fact that today is the day I hit 41 weeks. the bliss factor was topped up with a lovely long lunch at Jamie's Kitchen - yummy polenta chips, zingy pasta & amalfi lemon curd tart.

So that's another 24 hrs killed! Still trying to pursue a sweep for this week as I was told by the locum last week I could have one today if I wanted - I've phone the MW twice since Tuesday & left messages both times but she hasn't returned my calls. I don't mind that I haven't been able to get an appointment but I do think it's a bit unprofessional not to pick up the phone & either let me know that I'll have to wait until next week or suggest an alternative clinic in one of the nearby towns...think it's a function of the fact that I've now seen 5 different MW (nobody more than twice) & the lack of continuity hasn't exactly been great for engendering ownership of our town's caseload..feel sorry for those that might actually have needed a bit more looking after.

peanutpie · 13/08/2010 08:03

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me posting on this thread, I put a few posts a week or two a go and feel a desperate urge to say I'VE HAD A BABY!!!

Especially to give encouragement to anyone who is late with their second and having loads of niggles/false alarms/ been to hospital twice to be told that they have weed themselves rather than waters!

I had a little girl at 40+6 born on Saturday morning. I started having on and off contractions from the Friday evening. NOthing new there but these ones were more in my back and bottom than at the front I would say. I woke DH up at 2.45 and by 4am I realised I wasn't going back to sleep.

With all the false alarms my DH was deteremined to keep me at home for as long as possible. I had a TENS machine which was OK - I didn't like it but it gave me 'something to do'! Anyway at about 6am I had a vague bearing down feeling and said 'we need to go now'.

We got to hospital at 7.15am. I was having full on contractions (down on all fours panting) in the car park, hospital foyer and corridors by then! However I was still slightly worried I would be told I wasn't in established labour after all the false alarms. Fortunately I was 6 cm so they ran the pool.

I got in the pool, my waters went pop and the next contraction the urge to push nearly took me over. I think she was then out within 3-4 pushes. That was 8.25am It felt very fast and furious! The pool was fab and I found I could use my whole body to do the pushing. I've no idea how people catch their babies though! I could only push and that was it and in fact I feel like I fired her out if anything.

Phew! It was all so quick at the end it was sort of a shock to my body.

Anyway a gorgeous small girl to join my now very jealous. I feel very fortunate.
3 yr old boy!

babyducky · 13/08/2010 08:15

morning all :)

Lovely story peanut pie, congrats!!
Whats her name?

Good luck with your inductions coffeelady & palace.

Ive been up since 4am with the crampy pains, backache etc again, really hoping today might be the day!

Nikalah · 13/08/2010 09:32

babyducky - me too! Although managed to go back to sleep again, have also had a bit of a (mingo) show!

It could be Friday 13th babies for us, shame my Maternity Unit doesn't have any free midwives at the moment.... so isn't accepting anyone in Labour.... have no idea where I'm going to end up.Hmm

LittleMissSnowShine · 13/08/2010 10:01

congrats peanut

good luck palace and coffee! Friday 13th could be a lucky date after all, especially with the beautiful meteors in the sky at night :)

got DH to take me on a long drive down the coast last night to check out the meteorites and go for an after dark walk on the beach. it was a lovely change from tv and feeling a bit queasy in front of the tv and wore me out a bit so i actually got some sleep last night which was fab!!

still getting some cramps on and off but can't be any more than pre-labour at most since no cx have developed. nesting fever has completely disappeared, tho, just trying to keep the house reasonably clean and no more lol nice and sunny today so going to attempt to go for a walk up to the bank in an hour or two - waters better not break lol

CellyD · 13/08/2010 10:19

Good luck Palace and Coffee! Congratulations Peanut! Sending good vibes to Babyducky and Nikalah, hopefully today will be the day. How exciting so many babies on the horizon :)

sparkle101 · 13/08/2010 10:30

Hey ladies, silly question from a first timer who is very worried..... I think I have had a show, but I'm not sure, what does it look like and what does it mean?

ElusiveMoose · 13/08/2010 10:54

Congrats peanutpie!!

Good luck everyone else!

Sparkle a show, as I understand it... Basically, throughout your pregnancy there is a mucus plug in the entrance of the cervix which helps to protect the developing baby against any infection (though the amniotic sac obviously does that too - kind of a belt and braces approach, I think Grin). Anyway, in early labour or in the days approaching labour, your cervix starts to dilate very slightly, and as that happens, the mucus plug becomes dislodged and comes out in your pants or on the loo. It varies a bit from person to person, but basically looks like a clump of egg white/mucus/snot, often streaked with blood. You can have more than one show - I had at least two with DS, possibly three (can't quite remember). With me, it happened during early labour (on the Sat evening - had DS on the Sunday evening); but some people don't get them at all, or only get them later in labour, or get them several days before labour. So, in a nutshell, it means you're very likely to go into labour within the next few hours or day or two, or possibly a few days later. It's totally normal and nothing to worry about, though if you're at all worried just let your MW know (they'll probably just say 'oh good - as you were', but I guess at least it lets them know that you're likely to be coming in sooner rather than later). HTH. And good luck!

mrsZaC · 13/08/2010 11:00

hey girls

congrats to doodly and peanut love your birth story peanut, water must be amazing to get baby out so quickly!

Hope palace & coffee are getting on ok today :)

It all seems to be going on just now, with shows and twinges all over the place, good luck girlies!!!

weehector so glad you enjoyed your massage, sounds like an amazing day, I LOVE jamie's italian!!

nothing much for me to report form here, camping out with my mum & dad just now as DH is away offshore and I've hit the magic 37 wks. Quite good really as here I can relax instead of wanting to clean and tidy everything in sight at the flat. I managed to finish the nursery before I left so at least that's all ready, but there is a HUGE mess off ejected stuff from the spare room (now nursery) to sort through hopefully another day. So hopefully baby won't come in the next couple of weeks, although DH said it might be quite nice to get called off a little early ;0)

Sorry if I've missed anyone but beyond a couple of pages I get lost, will try to be a little more vidgulent about checking up on you ladies whilst I'm at mum & dads but I hate working at their computer, gives me such a bad back!!

good vibes today for the unlucky for some friday 13th I think it's going to be a lucky day today, more babies please!!!!

xxx

mrsZaC · 13/08/2010 11:01

ahhh sparkle so exciting!!! I can't believe this might be it for you, your not far date wise off me!! you can't leave me on my own till the bitter end :(

LittleMissSnowShine · 13/08/2010 11:05

Elusive - Thanks for the description, actually really helpful, for some stupid reason I assumed a show would look kind of different. Now I think maybe I had that yesterday...well, maybe anyway!!

Insert 37+6 today and tapping foot with impatience emoticon here

mrszac - unless these twinges turn into something a bit more dramatic it looks like i'll be here til the bitter end too!!

USMum27 · 13/08/2010 11:28

Yay more babies! Good luck to palace and coffee; I'm very Envy that you will be cuddling babies soon! Sounds like we've got quite a few little ones arriving today :)

I'm still very un-patiently waiting here. Very uncomfortable and would like to have this little one. Unfortunately, only a few period like cramps and backaches for me and nothing like real labour. The goal is to get this little one out on the 15th as all the cousins have been born on the 15th (very unlikely as I'm a first timer and not due til the 20th, but here's hoping!).

thedogwalker · 13/08/2010 11:40

Good morning

I've been kept awake all night with awful stomach ache, which was keeping the LO awake, he kept on moving all night and so I was in discomfort the whole time.

Had another scan and heart montior this morning and the hospital confirmed that I wasn't having stomach ache but cx. I am due on Sunday, so here's hoping that things get moving. Good luck to everyone else who's close to popping.

Off out for lunch, with the girls from work, maybe the last time before I become a Mum Wink

ta ta for now

Alicetheinvisible · 13/08/2010 11:46

40+4 and no more signs This baby is too comfortable and tbh i am sleeping too well Grin

Went out for a drink last night with some mum friends and just had to get some KFC chips on the way home Grin

The only new sign is that all of a sudden my boobs have got sore, they were very sore the whole of my first pg, but been fine this time.

Good luck ladies being induced today.

Weehector how are you bearing up? Would you like my last lemon and poppyseed muffin?

ElusiveMoose · 13/08/2010 11:58

Ha ha, USMum, all the cousins in our family have been born on a Sunday, so I'm hoping that will be the case again (and that it's this Sunday, not next Sunday Grin).

Those signs sound promising, Alice and Dogwalker, let's hope this is it for you two!

I've just made a great big apple and blackberry crumble (with blackberries from the garden, I might add), so I'll plonk it down in the middle with a big jug of cream. Tuck in!

MIL has just arrived for the day, so at least I get a day off from entertaining DS - hurrah! The little bugger was up from 4.30am until 5.30am this morning, then got up for the day at 6.30am, so I'm hoping a snooze is on the cards for me later.

neenz · 13/08/2010 11:59

Peanutpie - well done, what an amazing birth story! You seemed to cope so well with it... all fours in the car park lol! I bet that was a sight to see Wink. Congrats Smile

I had a good night with Daniel, he cluster fed midnight-2am then slept on the bed 2-5am, had a feed, slept in his moses basket, another feed at 6.30am then slept till 8.30am Smile. I am absolutely loving have just one baby after having the twins. They were great and twins really is double the love etc but it has to be cos it is bloody more than double the work! Having Daniel on the bed is something I couldn't really do with the twins because I always had another baby to tend to. So getting him settled and just being able to leave him there and sleep myself is bliss.

Star, so glad you have your mum there helping you. I don't know what I would do without my mum and DH's too. They are such a big help. I hope the twins are being good for you and not keeping you up all night. It is amazing having twins though isn't it? I used to feel sorry for people with just one baby (despite all I said above!).
