Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ei23mummy · 07/09/2005 13:01

wow theres no end to the problems is there!! if its not incompetent g.p's its a fight with the receptionist to get to see your g.p! incidentally s/h how old is your dd?? if shes younger that 5(i think) then she should be a priority patient for the g.p as small children go downhill easier than bigger ones! (thats a guideline aswell!!) ring the receptionist and tell her if she doenst give you an appt within 24hrs then you are going to make a formal complaint!! (thats what id do myself!!) im sure she should at least give you an appt somewhere else if she cant give you an appt at your surgery! (again another policy!!) -or- ring nhs direct up and theyll book you in for the nearest walk-in clinic to you!
OK rant over!! how is everyone else today??
i got up late so didnt go into uni!! not missing out on much tho-hopefully! i had a lovely sleep- weird dreams tho!!

sweetheart · 07/09/2005 13:09

george, probably all my moaning didn't help either

Dd seems OK now - Although she hasn't been to the loo yet so that will be the major test of if she is better. She has been asking for food and seems to be retaining the water I've given her so thats the main thing. She's 5 btw ei. I don't normally have a problem with my surgery (although I'm aware that other people do) I seem to have just had a run of bad luck with them this week.

They have a sign up which says they will not tolerate rudeness to the reception staff. Obviously they have had a lot of people complianing about being told they can't see a Dr by someone unqualified!!!! Trouble is, if you get their backs up they will just refer you to the sign and refuse to deal with you!!!

I have found being at home much more relaxing and I'm definatly more comfortable today than I normally am. It's a shame I've got another 9.5 weeks until my mat leave starts.

ninah · 07/09/2005 13:18

hello just checking in, been busy here this am
sorry about dd sh, how is she now? ds also had the runs in the night woke me up shouting his bottom was sore and it had leaked ... everywhere ...
Nursery havn't called so I'm hoping it was a one-off - he seemed pretty cheerful this morning, much wider awake than me! well there is obv something going around (when isn't there ..)
Sorry everyone is going through the mill. I actually feel a bit better tho could do without falling asleep on the sofa every night
What colour is the carpet, nemo? we just had ds new room painted blue, it looks great - the floor will be laminate, sadly, so I'm looking for a nice big rug

ninah · 07/09/2005 13:23

glad ds seems better, I'm sure it's a 24 or 48 hour thing if same as ds. I used to think it was horrible when babies are ill and can't tell you, but now I think it's pretty bad when they are suffering and they can!
Time for a lapel badge/T-shirt which says 'Zero tolerance to rudeness to patients/customers' I think!
Know what you mean about being at home, I've got Friday off and I can't wait even tho it will involve food shopping for party stuff. I might even make the cake if I am feeling v strong

scully · 07/09/2005 14:15

we have a houseful of people this weekend, so won't be that relaxing but will be nice to catch up with everyone.....going to take dd swimming on Sat morning for the first time in a while so that should be amusing She is very good though, knows she can't kick mummy in the tummy
A day off, how nice. I have to wait until 30/9 for one of those. Shouldn't complain though, haven't worked too many 5 day wks lately

dramaqueen72 · 07/09/2005 14:48

afternoon ladies.....phew..s/h what a dragon you have to get by to see your DR! I am so lucky the tiny surgery i moved to has the sweetest receptionists who know all my children by name and cant wait for the baby I am so glad i moved from a large place to there. it really is a nightmare our NHS system..I'm not against it or anything, it just isnt working!
george, i get reduced to tears by the end of pregnancies....cant roll over in bed, or get out of bed, without horrendous pain by then, so nope, i tend not to retire to bed!!! I have a birthing ball and perch on it all evening, sounds strange but its really comfy and much better than levering yourself 'in and out' of sofa. I've never remembered to use my birthing ball for giving birth tho....must try it....
nemo, how exciting to be having all that done! i adore decorating, either being done by me or for me! and cant wait to start our nursery properly.
dh off today, and tho hes under my feet abit (infact just sent him out on errands to get some peace!!!) two good things have come of talking to him over coffee today...one he suggested he takes me, AND has children and shops for a few hours, while I go to our meet up -woohoo! and he has also explained where our 'christmas shopping money' is coming from, how much it will be and how long til I can get at it so I can happily make my list of what to buy who now!! these things make me happy

bonkerz · 07/09/2005 21:02

hi girls just checking in.

Not been a good day, hence the late post.
Woke up feeling odd but didnt know if i needed to cry or scream! Went to toddler group with mindees and had a few hot flushes, By the time i got home i felt really poorly, ate a sandwich and was sick, then have had a headache thats got worse and worse till it became unbearable at 4pm today. Rang docs and spoke to receptionist to see if i could talk to midwofe or nurse for advice about if i need to be checked and told that no point in being seen just for a headache! Rang NHS direct who said it could be my BP and i was to lay down for an hour and if not better to go A&E, well 4 hours later and head still pounding, but im too scared to go A&E incase they admit me or send me home labelled paranoid pregnant lady. Will see how i go tomorrow! This was my worst fear cos i had to give up work at 26 weeks when pregnant with DS due to high blood pressure and borderline pre eclampsia although i didnt develop it in the end i had to rest ALOT. Really cannot afford to give up work just yet!!!

floops · 07/09/2005 21:15

Sweetheart, it really annoys me when the receptionist demands to know what the problem is. I always feel that I should not have to divulge that info to them and that they should take my word that I need an appt that day. I know they must get faced with a lot of people who probably don't need immediate appts but...aaah!!!

My pregancy seems to be going well by the sounds of it. I don't get aches and pains - yet! But I do have a lot of DIY jobs that need completing before Dec and it does not look like they will get done. I have been feeling very frustrated about it but have come to terms with the fact that they are nto going to happen. Maybe I can get on with them myself in the new year. Baby and kids permitting.

I have a dilemma I thought I would run past you all. I have to make my mind up before my 36wk appt. whether to opt for a normal delivery or a C Section. My first was an emergency section and my second a normal delivery but with a third degree tear. My consultant feels that if I had a normal delivery there are obviously risks regarding my pelvic floor and potential tear but a c section is a major operation with slow healing afterwards. She says it is up to me and she will go along with whatever I decide.
My husband is undecided but is not panicking as we still have 11wks to make our minds up.Hs anyone else been faced with this decision?

floops · 07/09/2005 21:21

Bonkerz, I would get it checked. Especially with your history from prev pregnancy. Do you not have an on call midwife number to phone? Don't be put off by the receptionist's comments. It's not her body, baby or headache. I know that sounds blunt and your headache may be nothing but it's probably not worth taking the risk. At least if it is not anything you can relax and not worry and concentrate on clearing your headache up. Hope this helps and that your headache clears soon. Take care.

sweetheart · 07/09/2005 21:35

oh bonkerz - sorry to hear your feeling unwell - bloody receptionists, I think you should make getting checked a priority. If it does turn out to be high blood pressure or pre eclampsia you should make a formal written complaint - this woman could be putting peoples lives at risk by restricting their access to a professional health care worker!!!! GGgrrrr it makes me sooooooo mad!!!!!

Floops, hi. Are you new to the board? Sorry - brain like a sieve!!! Your decision sounds tough and I can't be any help I'm affraid. Perhaps you could post a thread in pregnancy or chat to get some advice from people who have been through this.

floops · 07/09/2005 21:54

I first posted pre summer hols. Due to family life have not had much time to follow the thread. Schools back now so I may be here with you all more often. It takes me long enough to read all your messages. They are a good read.

dramaqueen72 · 08/09/2005 01:08

george - can you make our meet up in november? and everyone else too, we are meeting up mid nov in Basingstoke, if anyone can make it say so!

scully · 08/09/2005 11:36

How are you feeling today bonkerz? Floops, I also have that decision to make, but for my 2nd baby. Don't have the tear bit to worry about, but also had a section last time. Saw the consultant last week and he thinks there is no reason not to try a trial labour, but it's up to me, and we'll decide at 36wks as well, after a scan (dd was breech). Hard to know what the right decision is, isn't it.
Has all kicked off at work, with 7 redundancies announced yesterday. One being the girl who sat next me who is currently on maternity leave. She got a phone call at home out of the blue yesterday telling her. Awful really......
Mind you, if I got that phone call next year, I would be thrilled, but only because it would suit my plans.....

ei23mummy · 08/09/2005 11:43

morning!!
how is everyone? iv just got back from my m/w appt who said the bub is measuring bigger than my dates! maybe thats why im feelin so round!!
hello to floops!!
dq, iv posted on the meet-up thread that ill try to make it if cash and time allow!

expatinscotland · 08/09/2005 11:44

My baby is measuring a fortnight ahead of its due date. The fluid levels were fine at last scan - 23 weeks. So here's hoping I won't be late w/this one. DD was born at 38 weeks+3 days.

ei23mummy · 08/09/2005 11:52

wow so you may go earlier than planned then expat? im only measuring 1 week ahead so theyr still sayin my dates are right!

ei23mummy · 08/09/2005 11:54

has anyone else started to get stretch marks? iv been slappin cream on every day twice if i remember and iv got little ones around my belly button!! jeez i dread to think what ill be like in a few weeks time!!

expatinscotland · 08/09/2005 11:55

No, no stretchmarks yet. But I didn't get them w/DD or with 12 years of dancing ballet.

ei23mummy · 08/09/2005 12:23

im so of you expat- i only have to lose a couple of pounds or vice versa to get them on my legs and stuff but i thought that with me being extra careful to put cream on i would limit my stretch marks to the minimum!! obv not meant to be! on the plus side my skin is really soft and silky!! (theres always a silver lining!!)

sweetheart · 08/09/2005 12:30

Morning all. Been to my oesteopath appt this morning - I'll let you know in a couple of days if it was worth it. She seemed to be saying all the right things, she massaged my head and neck mostly becuase my pelvis was out of line ??????? Well, she says it's all connected and who am I to question!!!

ei - I haven't got any stretch marks - yet. I've been using this Every morning after my shower. But I'm a bit of a sanctuary nut - I have all their products!!!

Having my hair dyed tonight - I'm going from blonde to brunette for the winter. I hope it looks good coz the way I've been feeling recently I'll cry if I don't like it!!!!

Hope your all well - I'm off to lunch in a mo to celebrate my exam results (all be it a couple of weeks late) and discuss my maternity cover - we are having a meeting with the lady tomorrow WOOHOO!!!!!!!

dramaqueen72 · 08/09/2005 12:35

I got seriously horrendous stretch marks from my very first pg. the dr assured me its INSIDE thats stretching and no amount of any cream outside can help put them off if you are destined to get them. often, apparently, runs in families too. so having got huge huge ones all across tummy already, I havent got any more this time, or if I have, I havent noticed really dont care now!
george where are yooooooooooooooooooou
s/h have a very good lunch out, sounds lovely.

dramaqueen72 · 08/09/2005 12:39

oh and good luck with your hair s/h!!! mind you, I'm sure I read somewhere not to do anything to drastic to your hair when pg, as we pg ladies can apparently (!) make some crazy choices....so you know, go brown by all means, but dont get it hacked off to two inches long or anything will you?!! I dont want you upset!

ei23mummy · 08/09/2005 12:49

well im buggared then if it runs in families as my lovely mum is covered in them!! yay to genetics!!

george32 · 08/09/2005 13:12

Still here DQ but I'm sooooo busy!!! It's all gone crazy here today so had no time at all to come on this morning.
I'm also doomed on the stretch mark front, my mom had loads. Still doing the cream though (you never know!! )

Have a good lunch & good luck with you hair SH. My hairdresser has already been warned not to listen to me if I tell her to hack all mine off. Anyone elses hair turned to straw?? I thought it was supposed to become beautifully glossy?

scully · 08/09/2005 13:29

Had a friend's hair go orange when she had it highlighted recently - thank good didn't happen to me when I had mine done in June
Also no stretchmarks so far, didn't get any last time either. Hope it is genetic as my mum didn't have any either
