Must admit I'm a bit of a Monica too but having DS has forced me to mellow a little. Books are still arranged by type (fiction, travel, bio, etc) and then alphabetically and I must straighten the cushions a hundred times a day. The difference is that we rarely seem to buy new books anymore and, though the cushions may be straight, they usually have something greasy or crusty in at least one spot on each one. I think I could drive myself mad worrying about it but do my best to relax. Not always easy and I do have occasional cleaning freak outs. I'll get everything perfect and then watch it get messy again in about two seconds. Grrrr.

tex111 · 02/09/2005 16:43

Tessa, you're right about the signing being a great insight into the baby's mind. The thing that I remember most about Toby's signing is how he would adapt his own signs. The most telling one was that he would make the sign for milk when he needed to be comforted. He'd bump his head or something then look at me with big eyes and sign 'milk'. So interesting to see the things that were connected in his mind.

BEKsmum · 02/09/2005 18:07

Afternoon girls, had a rare spate of energy this morning and cleaned out my built in wardrobes from top to bottom, to make some space for baby clothes as my dh is never going to get the wardrobe ready and as bump will be in with us for the first few months it's just as easy to have it's things in my wardrobe.

Ben has varied between being and angel and spawn of satan today, so am feeling completely shattered now, just answered to the phone to dh in a complete monotone - I'm sure he's dying to get home to see us now !!!

Enthusia, yeh I'm glad to hear you're going to be travelling at the same time as me. I had a look at Easyjet flights for the week between Christmas & New Year yesterday and they are still reasonably cheap, so well worth a look.

Also don't know if you've seen it but there is a fold up travel cot in Vertbaudet that folds down into a travel bag, will only be suitable for this trip but would save you having to take a moses basket with you. I've got one and it seems ok for a short stay!

Chacha, hope you have a great scan and yes sweetheart your days of cushion arranging are definitely over!!!
Twinkle you're a girl after my own heart, during the day I just let Ben get on with it and if we go out, the only way I can tell we haven't been burgled is that the telly is still on in the corner!!! I tidy each evening once Ben's gone to bed and isn't behind me getting everything out again.

Can remember not being quite ready for a friend coming over and brushing crumbs under the rug for hoovering later only to have Ben copying my actions once the friend arrived and saying "I'm cleaning like mummy"

Better go and check what my little darling is up to, have a great weekend all, am thinking of taking Ben to the Biggin Hill airshow tomorrow but he's being such a nightmare at the moment that we're not sure that he deserves it. Wicked parents aren't we!

Speak to you all later Beks (29+5)

novadandypowder · 02/09/2005 18:17

pmsl @ 'cleaning like mummy'

CADS · 02/09/2005 18:56

LOL Beks. Your ds sounds really adorable.

ChaCha · 03/09/2005 09:28

Morning all, Hope you all have a fab weekend

The scan was good although I was a bit disappointed at paying £200 to find that baby was totally breech! Legs up over head and arms completely covering face. Got a few glimpses at his face from time to time and managed one good pic but am glad to say he is all there, a good size (was told a bit bigger than average) and just awwwwww.....
Think he just wanted to be left alone to sleep. I cannot wait to meet this little one

If any of you have any good ideas/suggestions for party food let me know. We are having a small gathering here tomorrow evening and I wanted to put on some snacks etc.. Ta.

Hv a great weekend guys x

Enthusia · 03/09/2005 10:55

ChaCha -

I tend to cheat and use either 'cook's' party food or M & S. Other than that I get mini pizza bases in and get people to make own pizzas from a range of stuff I have out for them to top them with. Quite fun!!!!!!

Glad you got a few piccies of bubs, and that he is a good size. Hope for your sake he does not continue growing for England!!!!!

BEKsmum · 03/09/2005 18:51

Afternoon girls, had a great day here, we relented and took Ben to the Biggin Hill airfair, which was really good. Then we went out for a bite to eat at the Harvester so feeling very full now!

Cads he is adorable really I just tend to forget he's only 3 years old sometimes when he's being a monster! He is really stretching the boundaries at the moment as he's learnt to answer back which drives me insane but he's no where near as bad as the kids you see on Super Nanny - those I would really have a problem with!!!

Pinkminx you think you might have problems, one of dh's friends lives in Mississippi and although thankfully her house is still standing she is about to drop her first baby but can't get any petrol for her car as it's scarce & she only had a 1/4 of a tank in her car before hurrican Katrina hit now everyone has panic bought plus they can't afford the astronomical emergency sservices charges for an ambulance! We've got everything crossed for her at the moment and have been suggesting she does the same !

Right best go and see what the desperate duo are up to as it's gone very quiet, think they're playing golf in the back garden with plastic balls I hasten to add. Have a great weekend everyone Beks(30 weeks tomorrow)

novadandypowder · 04/09/2005 10:17

well, what a fairly eventful evening. DH and I went to an end of summer party hosted by Al Murray, so I got to rub shoulders with such delightful celebrities as Gordon Ramsey and Abi Titmus. Thankfully we didn't stay too late, as I find it annoying being around very drunk people when I'm not, and I had to keep asking everyone to give me a bit more room as I was trying to squeeze past them, as they weren't very bump aware.

I was also quite shaken for the first part of the evening as I had managed to fall completely flat on my face crossing the road to Al's house. I just lost my balance on a bumpy piece of road and went flying, DH was horrified and started to panic that I'd done myself some damage, but thankfully all I got was a scraped knee. I was carrying a bottle of champagne at the time and that ended up across the road too but as it was in a box it survived, although it looked a bit scabby by the time we handed it over.

I can't believe how my sense of balance has been affected by bump.

Anyway, DH is out playing paintball so I get to have a lazy day with the newspapers and a cream cake

ChaCha · 04/09/2005 10:58

Congratulations to all those who are now 30weeks into their pregnancies.....hurray!!!

Beks - Do you have contact with Rodeo? Imagine that either her PC is down or she is still away but it's been a fortnight now hasn't it?

Nova - glad you're okay after fall and that you had a nice evening anyway. Enjoy the cream cakes!

For those of you thinking of the hospital bag, Mothercare are doing some offers on things like maternity/breast pads etc.. There is also a sale on some of the baby toiletry boxes. Wanted to buy one but when i saw that there are matching bath accessories I started to panic and will now need to see whole range, pah!

Enthusia - pizza idea sounds great and I might try it! Thanks for that.

Best get on with another busy day then. Peace

rodeo1 · 04/09/2005 10:58

Hi all,

I'm back! And have spent forever catching up on all your news - oh, I have missed you guys!!

We had a wonderful time in Tenby, lovely weather, we've all come back all loved up and ready to meet looby-loo!! Have to say happy relaxed feeling has stayed put so far, wonder how long it will stay?! Have also managed to do all dirty laundry too!!

Children and dp are currently at Karate so I'm eating croissants and hot choc and watching 'cd-uk' and 'Countryfile' (which I love BTW - is that just me?). And my mother is cooking Sunday dinner for us this afternoon - Result!

Hi Nova, just refreshed the board to see your message, your night out sounds very glam, how is Abi BTW?! Caught a glimpse of Ramsey on an advert for Hells Kitchen USA - it looks hilarious - love watching him on TV, although I think he'd scare me in person!! Sorry to hear about your fall, you daft thing! I did exactly the same thing 2 weeks ago! Just a scraped knee and bruised pride! Although I was a bit twingy in the bump for 2 days after, but it was nothing

Xena - massive congratulations to you! Brill news!

Chacha - you had your scan!! Wow! Sorry you couldn't get to see his little face but it's not long now! My last scan was terrible and I'd dragged my excited mum and daughter along - for thm to see - well nothing really - just an egg shape back of the head and some grey patterns!!Naughty babies!

Welcome Pinkminx!! Another new member, great stuff!

Enthusia, I don't know - car crashes!! Have to say I get a bit nervous coming back to our thread after a bit of time away - I dread seeing those blue faces - but I'm very glad you are well! And everyone else for that matter

Lovely to see you're having a meet-up! Really I won't be there but please take loads of picture to show us all and make plans for plenty more meet-ups please!!!

Right sorry to everyone I've missed off, hope you are all well and I'll catch up with you all later!

31+4 x x x

welcome back rodeo, glad life is rosey for you and family .

My hormones are playing havoc with me at the moment, I keep having moments of falling in love with DH very intensly, and then finding him really irritating. I also keep having feelings of intense, well panic is the wrong word, but a very strong feeling of needing to cry and just lose it. Managing to keep it under control though, and don't think DH is aware of it.

goldenoldie · 04/09/2005 11:29

Have sent CAT to

Novadanypowder
Enthusia
Tessamum
LilJ (could not CAT you? Can you check your settings?)

Looks like it will be a small London meet up - anyone else fancy it? CADs? PinkMinx?

rodeo1 · 04/09/2005 11:29

Oh Nova, I do know what you mean abot panicky moments, I'm trying to block them out at the moment too, things I'm worrying about at the mo are......how I'm going to manage with 3, things I need to buy for baby, how I'm going to get up in the night when I'm out like a light every night, sore boobs, the hospital stay....goodness I could go on forever, but I'm really trying not to worry myself....oh dear, getting a bit twitchy now!

Enthusia · 04/09/2005 12:53

Mmmmmmmm - Cafe Rouge breakfast!!!! Our Sunday morning ritual. Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, toast, tea and the Sunday Times - Blissssss

Rodeo - great to see you back and great you had a good holiday!!!!!!

Nova - What a posh evening!!!!!! What is Gordon Ramsey like in the flesh? There are quite a few posters on MN who would be very jealous!!!!Did you just land on your knees when you fell? I always feel so stupid when I fall over, luckily havne't gone arse over tit since being PG, well yet anyway!!!

Can't wait for meet up, maybe we could arrange another one somewhere else for the ladies who are a bit out of London!!!!!! I would def come if I could get there, love getting out of house at mo and have no probs driving as yet!

Well, relaxing Sunday afternoon beckons.

30+2

novadandypowder · 04/09/2005 13:08

Enthusia, it was a full on flat on the face fall, but thankfully my bump protection instincts meant that i managed to fall on my hands and push myself onto my side. Just a good job it hadn't been raining and I was wearing black or I would've looked a right mess.

Free to a good home - we got given this by someone who really doesn't know me very well. It's not my thing, but if anyone wants it CAT me with your address and I'll post it out, unless one of the London meet people want it and then I'll bring it on friday.

novadandypowder · 04/09/2005 13:11

Oh, one more thing, can you believe that someone from the October thread has had her baby already!! It was born at 34+3, and she hadn't even gone on maternity leave yet . Frightening!

goldenoldie · 04/09/2005 14:17

Boiling hot here. Completely stuffed due to a roast lamb lunch.

Off to the Canal Festival.

Have any of you other mumsnetters found the freecycle group yet? Think they have them for all over the country? The Ldn site is fab for getting rid of junk/stuff too good to throw out but not really/or can't be bothered to sell.

tessasmum · 04/09/2005 15:35

Really hot here too and I'm sitting here dripping as I threw a wobbly this morning about the state of the house and the lack of progress on the spare room/office (where I am planning to put all sorts of things that are currently messing up this house!) Conesquently DH has been mixing up cement and filling holes whilst I felt I had to tackle the living room - well no-one else was going to. Its now dusted and hoovered and looking more respectable but there is so much clutter that it takes longer to shift all of it than to clean. Drives me MAD. I'm no Monica but I would like a little order in my life

Enough ranting, sorry!

Braxton Hicks started to twinge yesterday. For past few weeks I have only felt them if I've had my hand on my bump and I never felt any last time! Not sore as such, just a bit of an intake of breath. Also I am definately getting smaller movements at the moment, think someone is beginning to get a bit squashed

Pinkminx - if she does pick a Saturday just get your DP to find a friendly policeman and you should get an escort, sirens and lights blazing! I used to play in a samba band at local rugby matches and a friend played right up to her due date. She really freaked the stewards out and afterwards we found out that they had an emergency plan to get her from the ground to the hospital. Wasn't quite Twickenham though!

Thanks for Mothercare info ChaCha. For the first-timers just make sure you have double the ammount of maternity pads you ever think you will need, or a partner who isn't too embarrassed to go and buy them for you

Off to flake out now and will the ice-cream van to actually visit our road!

BEKsmum · 04/09/2005 16:28

Afternoon girls, bloody hell it's roasting here today, glad we went to the airfair yesterday as I think it would have killed me today.

Blimey Nova, don't know if we're good enough to talk to you with all these celebrity friends in tow!

Glad to hear you didn't hurt yourself when you fell, strangely enogh did you know when you fall like that you are actually better off falling on the bump as it is so well protected and by twisting to the side to avoid it you can do more damage to your muscles & back etc. I didn't realise this until a good friend of mine fell over whilst heavily pregnant and the hospital really told her off!!!

Don't worry about the panicky moments and emotion swings these are all really normal at this stage, especially once you get past 30 weeks 'cos suddenly it all seems to be so close after all this waiting around.

Rodeo, welcome back honey, we've missed you too, glad the weather was good to you and that you all had such a great holiday. We're off to south wales next weekend to visit dh's family as we haven't seen them since Easter, bet it bloody rains for us!!!

Also glad to see that the same issues are worrying you in a way, as it makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing.
I'm really freaked about going into labour naturally this time, as I was induced last time after a week in hospital, this of course would be my worst nightmare now as to be away from Ben for so long would not do me any favours. Then again having to get to the hospital bit freaks me out too, as dh doesn't drive and I'm worried that the whole experience will frighten Ben. I plan on being discharged 6 hrs after the birth all going well, just so that i can get things back to normal for Ben as quick as possible.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend, speak to you tomorrow Beks (30wks)
