Morning everyone, where are you?

Really hot and sticky here today even after a cracking thunder storm in the night. Good excuse for doing everything even more slowly than usual

Exchange with Tessa (2 1/2 going on 13!) this morning:

Me - Can you pick that up please?
Tessa - No, I can't bend down my baby in my tummy is in the way!!!

We are in SO much trouble

31 weeks

Busyalexsmummy · 05/09/2005 11:16

hows everyone today? Im feeling abit yuk this morning as have been sick again....thought i was doing really well as had no sickness for about 2 weeks.....nevermind!

The time seems to be going quite fast now, cant beleive that in 5 weeks or so will be packing hospital bag! crazy! still havent got much for the baby but am hoping to start getting stuff together in the next few weeks, or at least the double buggy etc

Am getting really annoying BH now, had them for 1hr 1/2 the other night, to the point i was going to ring the m/w as they were leaving me doubled up in pain, luckily they dissappeared but found it really strange as didnt have BH with ds, or at least not ones that hurt, my bump just used to go hard and that was it.

anougher weird thing thats happened this week is i have started producing colostrum, but only out of one boob, I keep getting shooting pains through the other boob so will probably ask the m/w about it tommorrow when i see her and check its all how it should be!

Still cant think of any names for this baby, ds had a name by 15 weeks pg, so am quite disorganised this time-at this rate it wont have a name till its born!

Morning all, Tessamum lol out Tessa's reaction, wonder where she's heard that in the last couple of weeks!!!

Busy sorry to hear you're feeling sick, thankfully mine seems to have passed again now, it's so wearing when you feel rough isn't it.

I don't know what to do with myself today, I feel like I've gone deaf as Ben has gone off to pre-school for his first full day, he's going to do two full days & a half day a week and I just can't believe how quiet the house is. I really should be doing the cleaning but the luxury of not having to run around after him is making me lazy!!!

Right best go and get motivated. Hope everyone is enjoying the peace of having the kids back at school as much as I am.

Speak to you later Beks (30+1)

tessasmum · 05/09/2005 11:27

Sorry your feeling rough Busy.

In case you need it you've got 42 days after baby is born to register a name so plenty of time yet! Friends of mine got to 40 days before agreeing on one for 1st baby and 42 for their 2nd
We might have a girls name (though we had a different one about a month ago that DH has now gone off!) but not a clue for a boy.

I can feel BH this time too though not as bad as yours sound, never knew anything about it last time unless DH had his hand on my tummy!

Also beginning to think that maybe I should start to do something to prepare for this one's arrival. One friend is lending us a Moses basket and another one has a cot to sell but that's it so far! Will probably leave it till after holiday in few weeks time, then leave it again until NCT sale in middle of October

Anyone else having first baby ?
So tired today, wish I had left work already 6 weeks to go !!

Sharon, there are a few of us who are first timers - Me, Enthusia, Chacha, and Babyonboard off the top of my head, but sure there are a couple of others.

This heat is killing me, my feet and hands have swollen again, so much so that DH actually noticed it last night. Also getting numb hands in the night which is quite uncomfortable.

Busy, I've been leaking colostrum from my right boob only, and still get very sore nipples at times. I wouldn't worry about names, we've got a few lined up but are waiting until we meet baby to see what name suits it.

hamster · 05/09/2005 12:33

Morning ladies,

Rodeo, hope you had a good hol, and weather was good. I love Tenby so am , we're off to Teignmouth(sp?) south Devon on Saturday, hope the weather holds out.

Sharon- it sounds like mild Braxton Hicks. I've been getting really painful ones during this pg(my 2nd) though I never had any last time.

Pg is going ok. Getting really bad aches in my pelvis though...MW says it's my weak muscles, my own fault for getting pg so soon after ds......nothing like a bit of sympathy hey?!
I'm getting really tired at the moment too. I mean, I'm in bed by 9 at night, sleep when ds does in the day(mind you that's only an hour at the very most!) and I'm eating all the right stuff and drinking lots of water, and still feel like I haven't slept in a week.
Lets face it, the days of lie-ins and being full of energy have GONE

With regards to getting things ready for this one, I think I'm pretty much sorted. Packed my hops bag last week-need a few more bits...sanitary towels etc...but baby stuff is all packed. It definitely brought a "realness" to all that's going on, I felt excited for the first time in a while.

Anyway, on a more depressing note, I went to see the doc this morning, you see I've been on AD since ds was about 6 months old, and my doc has just told me I can't breastfeed on the AD's that I'm on In a word, I am-gutted. I only managed a couple of weeks last time, and I really wanted to make a go of it this time. Nevermind.

Hope everyone is still doing well. I must find time to get on here more!

Hi girls,

Just plucked up the courage to do a bit of internet banking, i've been putting it off all morning as we overspent on hol (doesn't everyone?!), but it's not too bad thank goodness! Didn't even go over our overdraft limit which is a miracle!!

Not much to report this end, just waiting for school to start, feel a bit in limbo this week, should get back into the swing of things this week, although I'm not sure when Joe's playgroup starts up again!

Fell to sleep at 10pm last night and didn't wake (apart from a couple of toilet trips) til 9.40 this morning! Dp woke me up with tea and toast, don't know how I'm going to do these early mornings again!!

Right I'll stop the waffle, speak to you all later,

Ooh BTW I think we decided on names while we were away, either Jessie Matilda or Jessica Mary for a girl and Henry Thomas or Charles Thomas for a boy!

Hiya all

just got back from work. Not bad considering Ileft in July!!!! Was helping out a mate with her classroom. It is really hectic there and the bitchiness has already started, I am so glad I am not going back!!!!

DH tried the perineal massage last night. I haven't laughed so much in ages. It was the look on his face. He kept saying he felt like he was stuffing a chicken. Don't know if we did it right, not sure how it is meant to feel, but got a tingly stretchy feeling so hope that is right. Also got a very sore bump from laughing so much whilst on my back.

I think I have started leaking from the breast department too. I am noticing now that there is a dry liquid forming on the nipples. As if they have leaked and then dried, very strange!!!

Got loads of 'ooohhhhh aren't you small' today which made me a bit paranoid about size of bump. But it is quite high. Last night whilst eating dinner I think baby got a leg or hand or something caught under my rib. I couldn't breath or lean forward or anthing was really uncomfortable.

Goldenoldie - Thanks for the email with the details, really looking forward to Friday.

Busy - sorry to hear you are unwell again - not long to go now.

Beks - take advantage of them being at school. I am def going to take advantage of me not being there!!!!!

Nova - I've been getting dead legs in bed and some deadness in the hands during the day, like pins and needles. The dead legs at night is horrible though. No position seems to help.

Well better go and get some lunch.

BYYYYEEEEEEEEE

Hi, and thanks for the warm welcome and invitation to join you in your thread... I feel rather clumsy coming in at this late stage , but will endeavour to get over it asap........ looking forward to joining in with your discussions when I really ought to be either a) washing up or b) painting woodwork, but hopefully won't get so hooked that I am busy posting when I ought to be cooking tea! .... it's been known to happen.....

LilJ · 05/09/2005 14:20

Hi all,

I'm beginning to panic about this whole thing (first baby nerves I guess) and went on a mad rush this w/e looking for cots, changing tables, etc. We've got the pram and car seat and clothes for the 1st three months, but that's it! Seems like there's so much more we need and I haven't even begun to think about what I need to pack for hospital bag. And as soon as I've figured out what we need on one hand, more questions come up - for instance I'm planning on breastfeeding but want to get baby used to expressed milk as well - do I need to buy a sterilizer for the bottles for the expressed milk?? All a bit overwhelming and my ante-natal classes don't start until October.

All this not helped by our kitchen renovation which means we're without kitchen until the end of this month and the house is a complete tip. I'm no 'Monica', but the chaos is getting to me and DH is being no help complaining all the time about the mess, budget, and the fact that I haven't started looking for nurseries!!

So slightly stressed out, and have seven more weeks of work. Think I need another holiday! Otherwise feel really well and baby still very active.

Lil J
28ish weeks

p.s. Goldenoldie - I've set up CAT now and I think I should be there on Friday.

rodeo1 · 05/09/2005 14:50

Hello and welcome Londoner! We have a stats page if you feel the need to find a bit more out about us! (Put your own up too!)

LilJ, I think we're all getting to know that panicky feeling at the mo. And yes you will need a steriliser. I found the microwave ones to be the handiest, but make sure it's small enough to fit your microwave! And get a good breast pump too (electric if poss), while BF I found it to be an absolute essential!!

OP posts:
novadandypowder · 05/09/2005 14:59

welcome Londoner, if you fancy posting your stats or looking at who we all are, our members list is here . If you are indeed in London, you might be interested to know that a few of us are meeting for lunch in Angel on friday, if you fancy it? We've not met before, so don't worry about crashing...

LilJ, there's no need to rush/worry, as long as baby has somewhere to sleep, something to eat, and something to wear you'll be fine .

I'm sure a lot of the fluff that goes with baby buying is for the benefit of the parents rather than the baby. I didn't start my shopping (apart from travel system/furniture) until 30wks, and even then I'm the only one in my ante-natal group who has already got stuff. In fact, I think they think I'm a bit odd for being prepared already, but I'm not working and have too much time on my hands for shopping .

As for bottles/sterilisers etc, the already mums may have better advice, but in my ante natal class they said it's best to solely breastfeed for the first couple of weeks and then express after that. If breastfeeding doesn't work out for you then you'll have time after the birth to sort out buying bottles etc.. I'm sure you live near shops that sell this kind of thing, and we're not having baby's over public holidays when shops are likely to be shut.

Don't worry - it'll all be fine

Londoner · 05/09/2005 15:09

Hi rodeo1, thanks for your welcome, I'll go and look for that stats page now.......
Hi LilJ, I know what you mean about the panic thing... I really want to get loads of stuff for the baby too, having given away the last few bits and pieces just before falling pregnant this time, der. I have to wait until my husband sells a load of stuff on eBay first and then do it through paypal shopping (gurn gurn).... and to distract myself have gone into mad looney decorating/cleaning mode instead as waiting is literally unbearable... there is a real physical urge isn't there? It sounds like you're really organised though, what with clothes, pram & car seat organised, good going... but the kitchen renovation must be driving you INSANE! ..... Roll on the end of the month for you!
Sorry, no real experience of bottles, but interested to know recommendations too as children want to feed baby too...
Glad to hear you're feeling well though, despite all this mad panic!

Hang in there, it's going to be okay!
Londoner, 31 weeks.

Londoner · 05/09/2005 15:18

Hi novadandypowder,

Thanks for the welcome and the link... I'll use that now....
Thanks for the invite too....... I'd really love to come but just booked myself in to work on that day, ug, so that's a 'no' I'm afraid, how annoying! Hope you all have a great time without me, sob, my husband works round the corner from Angel tube station and everything! Well, I'll meet up with you all another time instead!

Londoner.

ChaCha · 05/09/2005 15:52

Hi Londoner, Welcome aboard

Enthusia - Know exactly what you mean about being glad you are not returning to work. Had similar experience recently.
As for the dried liquid you mentioned, I've had this now for over a month and posted a msg about it to which I got this reply from on MNer:
"My mw says this is milk being produced and it dries into crusts on your nipples.. I think you sound normal well as normal as me anyway!!!"
What a relief!
Enthusia I've also had a lot of bump comments, I've mentioned them previously on here. Last night I was showing a friend one of the 4D pics and someone said 'Are you pregnant?', 'Yes, I replied, i'm about 28wks' to which she said 'I didn't want to ask just in case you weren't and thought I was being rude' LOL
For what it's worth, a lot of the women in my Yoga class also complain of inappropriate bump comments. Guess it all comes as part of the package. According to Dr.Gibbs our baby is a pound bigger than expected at its gestation so size obviously has no relevance.

Panic seems to be the theme of today's posts! I am still watching the world go by in complete oblivion LOL. A friend pointed out last night that the baby could come early and that i really need to at least sort a hospital bag. So far, on my list of 'To Buy' I've ticked off maternity pads Guess the cot, travel system, hospital bag will all have to wait...

After an exhausting late night with too many guests am still in PJ's, have been in and out of bed ALL day.

Sorry if this post turns out to be too long. Oh and Busy - I'm still having the odd bout of sickness, had an awful one last night in the middle of serving the main meal..fortunately away from the serving areas

tessasmum · 05/09/2005 16:08

Welcome Londoner.

Advice about expressing 2 1/2 years ago was to let the whole breast-feeding settle down and then think about expressing. I think I started to express at about 9 weeks but it took a while to build up to anything like a respectable amount. Its a whole new learning curve (one of MANY!) and expressing isn't as efficient as a baby, don't worry if you only get a dribble at a time.

LilJ - don't panic Sounds like you have got all you need to start with. Babies really don't need much and you will get given presents too.
As for hospital bag, I've a feeling that there will be a few suggestions from those of us who have done it before. My best advice is LOADS of food, not for labour but for the next 24 hours, I was STARVING and lived on Twixs and Ribena as I needed the sugar to replenish all the energy I had expended

BEKsmum · 05/09/2005 16:17

Afternoon girls, just knackered myself cleaning our bedroom from top to bottom, just the rest of the huose to get tidy now before dh gets home from work!

Welcome aboard Londoner, we're a merry bunch really just all appear to be in panic mode at the moment.

Rodeo, nice names you've picked there, well done.

Ben has decided that we will be calling a girl Eleanor with either Lucy or Grace as the middle name. I like Lucy but that would give her the initals ELK which is a type of course a type of moose, not the most flattering thing to be named after is it!!! A boy will be nameless as we haven't got a clue and can't agree on anything, not very useful when we'll need to get the baby registered quick so that we can get it a passport in time for our Xmas holiday!!!

Bugger that's really bad news about Peepee, wonder why this keeps happening to her?

Right best go as Ben is destroying his bedroom when I've just tidied it, so I'd better go and amuse him whilst piling all the toys back into the cupboard again, speak to you all later Beks

Busyalexsmummy · 05/09/2005 16:18

ChaCha-glad Im not the only one still throwing up-god its such a drain, i really feel like poo today, i think combined with the muggy heat outside it really doesnt help, just tucking into some rice cakes with ham on as havent managed to keep anything down all day and am hoping i will feel a little better for it.
I wouldnt be scare mongered into packing your hossie bag too early, id recommend getting all the bits for it together over the next few weeks and packing it for about 35 wks

Londoner-welcome to the board!

LilJ-as nova said, as long as baby has somewhere to sleep/eat/wear you WILL be fine, the list of things many magasines etc tell you to buy are often full of stuff you can get away without buying, if you take a long hard think about the stuff you think you need, you'll probably be able to think of several cheaper alternatives
As for expressing and sterilising, you have many options, you could get a steriliser, or you could buy a few of those bottles that you fill with water and pop in microwave to sterilise in 90seconds or you could use sterilising fluid(cold water serilising)-just a few other options rather than forking out the expense of a steriliser if you will be mainly breastfeeding.

have i missed something, has peepee m/c again?

BEKsmum · 05/09/2005 16:31

Sorry Busy was flitting about, yes Peepee has miscarried again, she's posted on the miscarriage board looking for advice, feel so sorry for her as this is no.5, have left her a message but there's not really a lot you can say is there.

Did you know that Xena is pregnant too though? She's well pleased.

Speakt o you later Beks

Busyalexsmummy · 05/09/2005 16:53

poor peepee, it sucks, especially when they cant find a reason behind it-thats what i found most hard. how far along is Xena then?

LilJ · 05/09/2005 17:00

Thanks for all the advice!! I'm feeling a lot better now. I guess everyone goes through a panic as the due dates looms closer.

I should have 4 weeks off before 'Chip/Chipolina' arrives so I'm sure I can sort out stuff then. In meantime I've taken up knitting to try and relax and distract me from the mess so should hopefully have a nice jumper ready for the baby if all goes to plan. Proper nesting will have to wait until kitchen is done.

Lil J

rodeo1 · 05/09/2005 18:21

Just thought I'd mention that I advised a breast pump because when my milk came in, at about 2-3 days my boobs were like hot hard boulders and they stayed this way for a few weeks!! Poor baby couldn't latch on because they were so big and hard (Ah, and they started off so little and soft, haha!), so it helped to express some milk off and chuck it, just to soften my boobs and nips a bit (and I really couldn't manage it manually because it was too painful!)
