Toddler in hospital. Need a handhold.

DD is 2 and has been ill for about four days with what we presumed to be a heavy cold. She hasn't slept much and today took a turn for the worse where we had to call an ambulance due to her breathing being laboured while sleeping and sucking in under the ribs with every breath. Paramedics think some kind of upper respiratory infection as her chest appears clear. Epiglottitis was mentioned or possibly severe tonsillitis but they didn't want to check her mouth at home in case it panicked her.

DH went to the hospital with her as he's calm and collected and only one parent is allowed due to coronavirus restrictions. She's a daddy's girl anyway so she'll feel safe with him but I'm kicking myself that I can't be with them both. Haven't heard anything yet and they've been gone about an hour.

Am terrified and need distraction as I know there's nothing I can do and she's with the best people.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Might be the wrong thing but could you put something mindless on TV and curl up on the sofa. Then at least it wouldn't be so quiet. Wasn't the same situation but I used to fall asleep to cooking and home improvement shows when I was going through a tough time.

I’ve tried writing about relatives - just stream of consciousness of little memories in a notebook. Funny things, things they liked, odd words that remind me of them etc. I was terrified I would forget (I don’t think you do) and wanted something, anything written down. I have found that helpful at times.

We're here for you, OP. I agree with PP- TV is probably your friend here. Have something- anything- to drink. Do whatever you need to. Would your DH be up for a cuddle?

I cant sleep.either and have had you on my mind ever since I read your awful update. As have many others I know. . So please know you are not alone .

Wyatt is absolutely beautiful. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I just cannot imagine the burning pain you must be in.

Oh OP I really hope you managed to get some sleep in the end. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. I thought about you and your beautiful girl all of last night and you were the first thing I thought of when I woke up. My daughter was looking at the picture of Wyatt looking cheeky with her bunches in and was giggling away, she looked like she was full of fun.

I managed some sleep around 5am and just woke up now. DH and I have been sharing our favourite memories of her and I'm going to write everything down. I just feel like my brain is in flux right now and I don't want to forget anything at all.

We're still in the Welsh firebreak until tomorrow but my 80 year old Bampi is struggling so we're going to go out for the first time today and see him for half an hour and take some food round. I don't want him out in the cold or driving in the wet so it's easier to go to him than him come to us. Everyone's so affected but his grief is quieter for us to sit with alongside our own than people like my sister and niece who adored her so much too but are so loud with it. I feel like I'm loud enough.

MN have asked if I'd like them to move this to bereavement so this thread will be there soon. I need to remember this and have a place to come.

OP we love hearing about litle Wyatt Rose. Come back as often as you need. We will always be here checking in on your all.

Thank you for sharing your memories and pictures of Wyatt Rose, she's so beautiful and full of character. I think that's a beautiful message for her headstone. I understand that need for quiet grief with your Bampi. I hope you can get a tiny bit of solace being quiet together today. Thinking of you.
