My toddler died today

My baby died today. I found him in his cot this morning. He was completely well yesterday and has no health problems. They are completing a post mortem today.
I don’t know what to do. Why would a healthy child just die? I have a 4 year old and don’t know how to handle it with him. Any advice welcome, I’m obviously a mixture of completely numb and a mess.

Oh I’m so sorry. What a fucking horrific and devastating loss. God, I really am so sorry. There’s no right or wrong way to move forward from here - just do whatever you need to. It’s ok to be angry, it’s ok to be numb. With your 4 year old, be as clear as possible - try not to use euphemisms like ‘sleeping’ or ‘with the angels’, so that they can understand as best they can that their sibling isn’t coming back. PPs have signposted some really good resources. For any appointments you have - PM results, funeral plans etc - try to take a friend with you. It helps to have someone slightly distanced from the grief to take notes. Be as kind to yourself as you can. Try and shower and eat something each day.

I'm not sure where you are or how far they operate but local to me is a super charity called Elliot's Footprint. It was set up by a family I know to support parents cope with the sudden and unexpected loss of a young child.

They struggled in the early days so will know exactly how to help you today, tomorrow, next week etc.
