Were really struggling with names and cant see to agree, I have two boys Alfie and Archie, so not sure whether to keep the granny chic or leave it there and have a more individual name.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Girls
Elsie (love, hubby hates though)

Personally I wouldn't have another name endng in an 'ie' sound
I like Flynn and William, most end up as Will
all the girls names end in ie or y and I don't like pulps and violet , what about Elizabeth ?

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 13:40

Thanks Compo, I like Elizabeth, but unfortunately hubby isn't keen.

Sorry what is pulps?

Hi there,
Like loads of your name ideas.
Favourite boys ones are William, Benjamin, Henry and Charlie. Of the list I suppose that Flynn, Jesse and Marley ar emy least favourites.

Girls names - I too am struggling with deciding on a girls name so will be no help I am sure other than to say that I like them all apart from Keeley. Think my favourites are Emily and Lillian with Lily as a nn.
Good luck choosing!

skidoodly · 21/04/2010 13:40

I like Louie, although compo makes a good point about another "ie" name.

I love Jesse too, but it has the same problem (if you perceive it as such).

Of your girl's names probably Pippa, although not massively keen on any of them.

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 13:45

Thanks Bubbles, I love Henry, but worried it will start sounding twee lol. Lillian is keeping the granny chic but perhaps with a new twist to it.

Skidoodly thanks, I'm really struggling with girls names lol. Kind of agree with ie statement though.

youremindmeofthebabe · 21/04/2010 13:46

I love Marley.

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 13:56

Really, thought everyone would hate this, not sure if too far out though. Also not sure if goes with ds's

OP posts:
skidoodly · 21/04/2010 13:56

girls' names are really hard, I find.

although you haven't had to use one yet, so you've had it easy

How about -

Olivia (very popular, but beautiful)

or

Sadie

skidoodly · 21/04/2010 13:56

I hate Marley

theagedparent · 21/04/2010 13:58

Henry or Violet

bidibidi · 21/04/2010 13:59

Emily is not that common at all.

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 13:59

Thanks Skidoodly, love Olivia, but we have a relative called that.
Have to admit I have never been keen on Sadie, reminds me of someone from school ifykwim, kind of puts you off

Boys names
Louie - prefer Louis
Charlie - prefer Charles and Charlie as nn
Flynn - yes
Benjamin - no
William - best name on the list
Henry - noooooooo
Jesse - no
Marley - not unless you are Rastafarian imo
Noah - over used now
Rudy - love it

Girls
Elsie - a bit too old lady chic for me
Emily - classic
Evie - one of a hundred in the class
Hattie - prefer Harriet and Hattie as nn
Heidi - hate it, cause I am one!
Holly - no
Keeley - maybe
Lilian, or Lillian - prefer in it's whole form
Lillianna - no
Lottie - how about Lotta?
Maisie - cute
Pippa - prefer Philippa and Pippa as nn
Rosalie - pretty, have you considered Rosemary?
Sylvie - no
Violet - yes

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 14:03

Thanks Aveda, we like Rosemary, but my mum came out with the classic, its like Rosemary's baby and kind of put me off

Would Lillian not sound too old do you think?

OP posts:
alfiemama · 21/04/2010 14:05

Thanks theagedparent, really like Violet, but does sound like violent.

compo · 21/04/2010 14:13

Sorry on my phone and predictive text turned pippa into pulps, lol meant to say don't like pippa

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 14:14

Ha ha, wondered what pulps was. Tis ok compo I'm not keen either.

Bucharest · 21/04/2010 14:22

Louie- don't like this (or the Louis spelling)
Charlie- lovely, trendy and classy at the same time.
Flynn- OK.
Benjamin- would invariably end up as Ben which is yawny
William- I find this too heavy for a baby somehow, and dislike Will intensely
Henry- one of my irrational hatreds, no idea why!
Jesse- I like this, but worry about the "yer big Jessy" connotations!
Marley- oh no.
Noah - love this, getting popular, but still nice
Rudy- am with husband on this!

Girls
Elsie- I don't get the newfound popularity of Elsie, to me it's still a bit old lady without the chic.
Emily- in the words of Craig Revel Horwood, dull, dull, dull.
Evie- she'll be one of 17 in her class (Love Eve though, if you can persuade people not to do the "ie" thing)
Hattie- love this
Heidi dd currently watching this on TV, gives me urge to yodel.
Holly - is nice enough, but I think has had its day for now. Will be back in about 20 yrs time
Keeley- I like this.
Lilian, or Lillian, ( love this with nn Lily
Lillianna don't like any of these options. I just think of Fagash Lil (sort of Les Dawson-y)
Lottie- I like Charlotte with nn Lottie
Maisie - don't like this
Pippa- nope, for me it's a small doll from the 70s or a poodle
Rosalie- nope, too frilly, like Rose though
Sylvie- like this
Violet - and this....

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 14:27

Thanks Bucharest, do you think Lillian is too fag ash lil aswell?

OP posts:
Rockbird · 21/04/2010 14:30

Marley is a bloody ghost, rattling his chains round Scrooge. And it's horrid.

Like all of your names except that and Keeley which is a meh non kind of name and Maisie which is too twee. All the others are fine

Well you did ask...

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 14:32

Boys names
Louie - no. Either Louis or Lewis. Neither which I like anyway.
Charlie - no. Really think is best avoided having another 'ie' ending name what with Alfie and Archie already.
Flynn - nope. A surname.
Benjamin - a lovely name.
William - another lovely name.
Henry - nope, not keen, another 'ie' ending name anyway.
Jesse - nope. Common round here.
Marley - no, not a proper name imo, a surname.
Noah - very common now.
Rudy - nope.

Girls
Elsie - I like, however another 'ie' ending name
Emily - bleh. Something and nothing.
Evie - a very common name, this century's version of Chloe.
Hattie - I like this, however the ending puts me off. What about Harriet, or Henrietta?
Heidi - pretty, but nothing special.
Holly - as above. Plus a Christmassy name imo.
Keeley - no. Horrible.
Lilian, or Lillian - lovely names.
Lillianna - ditto, but prefer spelling Liliana
Lottie - horrible. And Charlotte a bit meh.
Maisie - very popular
Pippa - no, it is a 40 year old hospital administrators name
Rosalie - I agree with your mum
Sylvie - nope, wouldn't like a little girl to have nn Sylv, like some woman down the bingo
Violet - pretty, but nothing special.

So - Benjamin or William, or Lily/Lilian/Liliana for a girl. IMVHO of course

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 14:37

No thanks Rockbird, honesty is the best policy.
Thank getorfmoiland, I'm not keen on Henrietta but I do like Harriet. My concern with this though, is my friends child is Harry (whom my children play with) could be a bit samey

OP posts:
Bucharest · 21/04/2010 14:43

I do find Lilian a bit fag ashy myself, yes, perhaps because I had several (well 3) Aunty Lilian/Lils who all smoked like chimneys....
Liliana is a bit fancy and I think would automatically get shortened.

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 14:46

Thanks Bucharest, none seem to be "the one"

OP posts:
weasle · 21/04/2010 15:41

I like Noah/Benjamin and Violet best to go with your other 2 ds. Agree i would avoid another 'ie' ending.
