Were really struggling with names and cant see to agree, I have two boys Alfie and Archie, so not sure whether to keep the granny chic or leave it there and have a more individual name.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Boys names
Louie
Charlie
Flynn
Benjamin (good friend called her lo this though, kept in so you can see what I like)
William (other good friend due in 2 weeks and may use this though)
Henry
Jesse
Marley
Noah
Rudy (hubby wont agree to this one yet

Girls
Elsie (love, hubby hates though)
Emily (hubby loves, I'm worried bit too common)
Evie (same as Emily)
Hattie (quite like this)
Heidi (not sure)
Holly
Keeley
Lilian, or Lillian, ( love this with nn Lily
Lillianna
Lottie (not keen on Charlotte though)
Maisie (worried too popular)
Pippa
Rosalie (mum said sounds like Gypsy rosa lee
Sylvie
Violet

Thanks Weasle, now just to persuade hubby, he thinks should end in ie

LaDiDaDi · 21/04/2010 16:25

William, Henry or Noah for a boy imo.

Love Elsie and Emily but not sure if they sound too similar to your boy's names. Pippa is nice. Not too keen on the others.

crumpette · 21/04/2010 16:51

Louie- NO ends in 'ie' which is silly with your DSs
Charlie- see above
Flynn- is this a name?
Benjamin - LOVELY
William - LOVELY
Henry- Lovely but has the same 'ie' sounding ending, though would be admissible
Jesse- NO
Marley- Bob
Noah - far too ubiquitous
Rudy - 'ie' sounding ending, 'Rude' being the main syllable

Girls
Elsie - Not with DSs names
Emily -Very nice and classic. I think this works as it's 3 syllables not 2, despite the ending
Evie - NO way, change a letter and it's evil, it's way overused and it is awful with your DSs names
Hattie - Harriet or Henrietta nn Hattie would work better. Hattie is likely to be called.. 'fattie' at school
Heidi - cute but a bit Kerry Katona
Holly - Fine at Christmas
Keeley - Last seen on Jeremy Kyle
Lilian, or Lillian- Gorgeous name
Lillianna - Gorgeous but much prefer 'Liliana'
Lottie - nice but only if you call her Charlotte
Maisie - not good with DSs names
Pippa - Don't like it
Rosalie - Nice, but not sure about the 'ie' ending
Sylvie - No
Violet - nice

So Boys- Benjamin/William/Henry

Girls- Liliana/Lilian/Lillian/Emily

in my very honest opinion

crumpette · 21/04/2010 16:55

or Violet

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 16:58

Lol Crumpette - I could have written your commnents word for word!

crumpette · 21/04/2010 16:59

To be honest if your friends are putting you off some very nice names, just think that your child will have that name for their entire lives. I'd still use Benjamin or William even if a friend had used them if I liked them, so don't let that influence you.

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 16:59

Thanks Crumpette, I really like Liliana and Lilian a tad more than Emily. Does anyone think Liliana is too far out there, like where trying too hard

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:03

No, I think Liliana is truly lovely. Think also that the pronunciation of Liliana would be different from Lillianna - the latter would sound more blunt - Li-li-AN-na as opposed to Li-li-AR-na (iyswim).

I don't think it is a try to hard name at all, it is very pretty and not too grandiose.

Mind you I don't have any fagash lils that I know like Bucharest so the name hasn't got any bad associations.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:03

try too hard I mean.

crumpette · 21/04/2010 17:03

Personally alfiemama I love the name Liliana but I do speak spanish and to me it's the right version of the name. However as a Brit too I adore it, it's different and unique without being something you'd find on page 3. Adding the 'a' isn't trying too hard, making up a whole name is. And anyway what's wrong with giving your child a pretty classic name? (S)he will have it for life. I think it's pretty and has a lot of nn potential.

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 17:04

Ooh sorry must have cross posted. I like Violet also.
I could possibly get away with Benjamin but not with William (if my friend chooses this,we are too close)
Only prob with Benjamin is Ben from Eastenders need I say more

Louie -- Love, but spelled Louis
Charlie -- Like
Flynn -- makes me think 'skinflint'
Benjamin -- Love, also love Benedict
William -- Love, esp with your other names
Henry -- Love
Jesse -- too girly imo
Marley -- a bit surfer dude-ish compared to the other names
Noah -- limp sort of name imo
Rudy -- nice but again a bit surfer dude

Elsie -- I'm with your DH on this
Emily -- Agree with you on Emily, it's too common
Evie -- Way too popular
Hattie -- BEAUTIFUL (short for Harriet? Henrietta?)
Heidi too different from Archie and Alfie I consider it very Swiss, whereas they're English
Holly -- Lovely
Keeley -- Nice but a bit different from the boys' names
Lilian, or Lillian -- Lovely
Lillianna -- a bit frilly, Lillian nicer
Lottie -- Only as a nn for Charlotte
Maisie -- You're right to be worried about popularity imo
Pippa -- Insubstantial name
Rosalie -- Lovely, I wouldn't mind yer mum
Sylvie -- BEAUTIFUL
Violet -- 'violent', and shrinking violet spring to mind.

alfiemama · 21/04/2010 17:17

Well both you crumpette and mathanxiety have said the same about violet and violent, so not sure now.
Agree with Ben and eastenders, Benjamin is a lovely name and is ds1's middle name lol.
I think I'm liking Lilian now, just got to persuade oh though, not sure on boys names, would dearly love William and will be having if friend doesn't choose in 2 weeks.

OP posts:
idobelieveinfairies · 21/04/2010 18:06
