DH's latest suggestion is 'Bosco' - is it awful?

DH has unconventional taste in names (to put it diplomatically - previous suggestions include Reef, Mowgli, and Roni) - his latest suggestion is Bosco - my immediate reaction was no but somehow it is growing on me. His (Irish) uncle was called Bosco but neither of us know anyone else of this name.

So honest opinions please - what do you think? (for the record I like more traditional names such as Noah and Gabriel although I also like a few unusual ones like Inigo although DH hates it)

you mean SAINT Malachy.... first Irish saint to be canonised.... nah, that's not a real Irish name

mind you we are talking about the man wanting to call his offspring BOSCO.... DrSkidaddle you have my sympathy!

DrSkidaddle · 31/10/2009 21:30

he was cute mananny yes but then so was Bambi... DH thinks if we had a Mowgli he wouldn't be ridiculed at school because I'm half Indian

To be fair I managed to get away with Milo for DS following the Mowgli suggestion, and I think he has now accepted this one won't be a Mowgli either

well he means not 'real' as in you don't find many actual Malachys in Ireland nowadays but I think I still deserve your sympathy, and thank you for it!

oh dearie, dearie me [wipes eyes]

I haven't laughed that hard since the amateur arse doctor thread.

Could you post some of his other suggestions up to keep me chuckling? I would like to add Bisto, Wino, Cheeto, Baskerville, Igloo and Benecol.

If it's a girl, Benylin, Windolene and Angina.

Inigo however is a FAB name, as is Noah. Tell your DH he has zero taste and should bow to your wisdom.

RomanCandleJollster · 31/10/2009 21:41

ah, so you have a Milo (lovely name BTW)

Milo and Malachy is a lovely combo

(secret President of St Malachy Assoc)

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 31/10/2009 21:45

Oh dear. Mowgli? Or Reef? Really?

Point out to him that if he really wants a name to stand out from the crowd, he'd do better to pick something like John or Paul. Every playground these days has got a River or a Tallulah.

DrSkidaddle · 31/10/2009 21:45

theyoungvisitor - I am absolutely not going to show this thread to him - he will POUNCE on Cheeto and Igloo I just know it

roman - I so agree with you, Milo and Malachy are perfect Perhaps a change of DH is the only option...

Bosco is a ginger, Irish speaking hand puppet. Your Irish relatives will piss themselves -- literally.

DrSkidaddle · 31/10/2009 21:51

theyoungvisitor - to be fair to him, I am reporting his wierder suggestions. Others include:
Maurice
loads of Irish ones that I can't remember
Noel
Bo

gosh can't remember any more - have obviously blocked them out...

theyoungvisiter · 31/10/2009 21:56

Bo is brilliant!

RomanCandleJollster · 31/10/2009 21:57

I know of a Milo and Gilbey... might this appeal to wierdo DH?

mananny · 31/10/2009 21:57

I'd like to have a couple of beers with your husband he sounds like a hoot!

Actually re-reading that it makes me sound like a husband stealing hussy. Which I am most definitely not. I just enjoy chatting somewhat loopy people

DrSkidaddle · 31/10/2009 22:02

oh gosh don't like Gilbey (or Bo)

mananny - well if you're happy to bring up a Bosco Mowgli Reef he's all yours

Spidermama · 31/10/2009 22:07

I love Bosco and Bo.

mananny · 31/10/2009 22:10

LOLOLOL

MadBadAndWieldingAnAxe · 31/10/2009 22:11

I do like Dara - can't you find an Irish name you like?

DrSkidaddle · 31/10/2009 22:16

'Would Rosco be a compromise?'

NO, it would just be another equally wierd name!

Really spidermama and dogchew?? You're also both welcome to him

Bosco peeco train...JD Hogg and the Dukes of Hazard....

mananny · 31/10/2009 22:17

OK I hope the mum of these children is not a MNetter but I know 4 children called (and I kid you not) Sun, Moon, Rain and Star. They are beautiful kids, very wild and free spirited (and dressed in Boden all the time) but their parents are called (and this is hysterical) Andy and Sarah. I am so sorry if they read this, I am not teasing them... it's just an example of normal named parents calling their children something way left field. (And if they are reading this I can't wait to see you all in a couple of months!)

moffat · 31/10/2009 22:19

I don't hate it - I can see why it might grow on you.
