Girls names from songs...

JoPie · 15/05/2009 22:20

OH is a singer/songwriter and is sort of obsessed with song lyrics. He wants to choose a girls name that is from a song, but I'm not loving any of his list so far.
So can anyone give me girls names and the associated song or artist is known?

To start off, his faves are;
Martha (from a Tom Waits song)
Sarah (Thin Lizzie) and
Layla (Eric Clapton)

Any thoughts?

We are expecting a baby in November and if it is a girl her name will be the title of a Stone Roses song which I have neglected to add to this list.

Good luck with the hunt

My eldest has Rose as a middle name after New Rose by the Damned. We did a fair few nights of their tour in the last few weeks before she was born and couldn't bear to go with Eloise.

Skimmed the thread, sorry if someone's already said this but there are loads of girls names in Smashing Pumpkins songs.

There's probably lots more that I can't think of.

SarahL2 · 16/06/2009 15:10

Hey! My name is Sarah! and my sister is Layla!

Seriously though, while I don't mind the association between my name and the Thin Lizzy song (it's not a very well known track it would seem) my sister HATES hers.

For her entire life, seemingly every time someone hears her name for the first time, they sing that song at her. It makes her really miserable.

I also had a friend at school called Jude who hates her name for the same reason.

And a woman I know named her daughter Delilah. I can't help but start singing "Why, why, why..." in my head everytime I hear it.

It's a cute idea but your daughter may come to hate her name if you pick a song that's too popular

pranma · 16/06/2009 18:08

Joanna {Neil Sedaka}
Maria West Side Story
Sarah Bob Dylan
Maggie May [trad]
Kathleen [I'll take you home again...]

poppysweetie · 16/06/2009 19:38

Maggie (maggie may)

mssally · 17/06/2009 14:43

My hubby made a CD for me many years ago with the following tracks

Sally Cinnamon (Stone Roses)
Long Tall Sally (the Beatles)
Mustang Sally (the Commintments - amongst othes)
Sally Brown (the Specials or maybe Madness)
Don't look back in Anger (Oasis)

The only time I've not liked my name is in Mustang Sally, and I think its to do with the "ride Sally ride" bit!
