Girls names from songs...

OH is a singer/songwriter and is sort of obsessed with song lyrics. He wants to choose a girls name that is from a song, but I'm not loving any of his list so far.
So can anyone give me girls names and the associated song or artist is known?

To start off, his faves are;
Martha (from a Tom Waits song)
Sarah (Thin Lizzie) and
Layla (Eric Clapton)

Any thoughts?

But Marianne is so much cheerier Catini......

Caitni · 15/05/2009 23:15

I know Marthasmama but I was nearly called Marianne, after Marianne Faithful, which I think would have made me super cool - instead I was named after my mother's favourite saint - much less cool!! So I've harboured just a touch of name envy about Marianne ever since . So for me it's always Suzanne (and I love all Leonard's gloominess - big part of its charm for me )

Marthasmama · 15/05/2009 23:17

Ah, fair point. Suzanne is a fab song too. I love the gloom too.

I was named after Lucy in the sky with diamonds, which is quite lucky as it could have been Yoko

girl's names from songs i have at some point sworn to name a child after:

cecilia - s&g
molly - kate rusby
mary - white stripes
jolene - dp/white stripes either version
elizabeth - stone roses
shirley - billy bragg
lorelei - pogues (seriously considered this)
rita - king creosote (ditto) (marguerita red)

sweet caroline/oh mandy/maggie may all cracking tunes if -rubbish not to my taste names

aisha is a top tune too, i'm vibrating

ended up naming dd1 after a (male) musician, and naming dd2 for no good reason except it's a beautiful name. (any ds would have been named after another - male - musician)
