Girls names from songs...

OH is a singer/songwriter and is sort of obsessed with song lyrics. He wants to choose a girls name that is from a song, but I'm not loving any of his list so far.
So can anyone give me girls names and the associated song or artist is known?

To start off, his faves are;
Martha (from a Tom Waits song)
Sarah (Thin Lizzie) and
Layla (Eric Clapton)

Any thoughts?

I am with Thunderduck here. I am Kayleigh and when I meet new people I tend to either get it sung at me or they say "Are you named after that song?"

I do love the song but it does drive me mad!!

My daughter is called Marylou (well Marylouise) after Hello Marylou!

well and all the people that had a hand in her getting here Carey and Louise

Sarah is a good name!!

it's nice to be able to say to your child this is the story behind your name!
I think it makes them feel quite special!

angelene · 17/05/2009 17:14

Marthasmama I'm a huge PJ Harvey fan and she has loads of female characters in her songs:

Angelene - prettiest mess you've ever seen
Catherine de Barra
My Beautiful Leah
Erika (on the new album with John Parish)
Delilah my babe
(50ft) Queenie

There are loads more I'm sure but I'd love to have a DD called Polly!

totalmisfit · 17/05/2009 17:16

thell - i was just thinking the same thing then i read your post. i'm a total folky if i'm honest so now:

I've got 'Polly, pretty Polly, come go along with me...' going round my head now...

or Nancy in 'Banks of the Nile'.

Trouble is, all those songs tend to end horribly! Perhaps it doesn't bode well?

toddlerama · 17/05/2009 18:05
