Girls names from songs...

OH is a singer/songwriter and is sort of obsessed with song lyrics. He wants to choose a girls name that is from a song, but I'm not loving any of his list so far.
So can anyone give me girls names and the associated song or artist is known?

To start off, his faves are;
Martha (from a Tom Waits song)
Sarah (Thin Lizzie) and
Layla (Eric Clapton)

Any thoughts?

I know I'm old, but what about "Daisy Daisy, give me your answer do, I'm half crazy all for the love of you" - I sing it to my Eleanor (Rigby) and wish I'd called her Daisy - she loves it!!!

charlotte the harlot from Iron Maiden , quite surprised no one else has mentioned it

rubytwokids · 17/05/2009 20:47

Counting Crows have a Maria, an Elizabeth and an Anna.

Tori Amos has one about Jackie (as in Jackie O). Gloria also gets a mention, though not necessarily as a name.

Kate Bush has a Baboushka, but I wouldn't recommend it. Not on that basis, anyway.

I liked Lydia, but dh told me he'd never be able to get 'Lydia, oh Lydia, say have you met Lydia? Oh, Lydia the ta-a-tooed laydeee!' out of his mind. At that point I pictured Kermit the Frog singing it (he did, on the Muppet Show, honest!) and went right off it too.

I bought dd a CD single of Kieran Gilligan singing 'Milly'. It's a cheesy piece of country, but she loves it. Guess I should start playing ds 'Ground Control to Major Tom...'

bandgeek · 17/05/2009 21:07

Ava Adore - Smashing Pumpkins

DD is Ava, but certainly not named after that bloody song!

Julia - The Beatles
Martha My Dear - The Beatles (the Martha in this song though is a dog...)

Marthasmama · 17/05/2009 21:24

angelene - DD was born on PJ Harvey's birthday and we so nearly called her Polly Jane.

bandgeek - Smashing Pumpkins also have For Martha on the same album.

LoveBuckets · 17/05/2009 21:42

I desperately wanted DS2 to be called Maggie (before we saw his thingy ) so I could sing every morning "Wake up Maggie I think I've got something to say to you..."

LoveBuckets · 17/05/2009 21:45

Oh and Maggie was going to be short for Marianne (Faithfull)

LOL at Black Betty

Anna, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, Carol, Lucille, Clarabella, Long Tall Sally, Prudence, Martha, My Dear, Sexy Sadie, Penny Lane! - The Beatles
Susannah's Still Alive, Victoria, Lola - The Kinks
Jane Doe - Alicia Keys
Sam/Samantha, Day I Met Marie, Carrie - Cliff Richard
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
Proud Mary, Suzie Q - Credence Clearwater Revival
Grace Kelly - Mika
Give My Love To Rose, A boy Named Sue(?) - Johnny Cash
Georgia - Dean Martin, Ray Charles
Mary in The Morning, Sylvie, Cindy Cindy, Polk Salad Annie - Elvis

I wish I liked the name Mandy - I love that song! My neice will be Angie as that's my sister's fave song. Nice way to do it - my name is from (but not because of) a Beatles song, and my sister is one of the Kinks' songs above. It's nice...

bigmouthstrikesagain · 17/05/2009 23:31

I have used a Nick Cave song for my DD1 middle name - 'Deanna'

thell · 18/05/2009 00:05

DH and I used to get the guitar out and sing 'Dear Prudence' a lot when I was pregnant. I really wanted to call DD Prudence so I could sing it to her, but DH reminded me that I'm not actually that keen on the name, and neither is he! So hormones safely overridden on that occasion!

Must remember to introduce DD to Mustang Sally / Sally Free and Easy, she'll love it!

totalmisfit - me too! but I have 'High Germany' running through my head -
'Polly, lovely Polly, oh the rout has now begun...'
I love that name too. Is it too much with a Sally already??

Polly put the kettle on,
Polly put the kettle on,
We'll all have tea.
Sukey take it off again,
Sukey take it off again,
Sukey take it off again,
They've all gone away.

nix72 · 18/05/2009 09:13

Patricia the Stripper by Chris De Burgh (perhaps not appropriate!)

Beautiful Girl by INXS has the line "Nikki is in the corner", but thats my name and I have always hated it because there were 4 others in my class at school. 70's mums lacked imagination!
