This is an area for discussing names isn't it?

Given that names are so personal to the people who choose them I should think there is untold scope for vast differences of opinion and taste here.

People express all manner of opinions about all sorts of names and I have no intention whatsoever of upsetting bereaved parents.

Also, many people hate the word chav and most threads with the word chav will be challanged.

you are being insulting to many people who have chosen that name.
chav is an offensive term only used by people with no taste or judgment.

oh dear, gunner, i didn't realise that someone had lost a wee boy of this name either, but if so it might be an idea to get it gone.

Is the word "chav" any more offensive than labelling a name pretentious/snobby etc? Would people who have sons called Tyler etc actually be offended by this post or are we trying to speak on their behalf - perhaps they don't care and would rather their son had a "chav" name than what they might think of as a "pompous" name (I won't suggest any examples!)

In any case, I don't think Gunnerbean's post was meant malicously so there's no need for so much agression here.

I thought the idea of this section was to get opinions on your own name choices, not insult other people's.

For goodness sake, any name can sound "chav" if yelled down the aisle of a supermarket. Having not ever heard that name being yelled in a supermarket and at a first glance, in response to op's question - No, I don't think it is. Being objective, I think it could be okay and could be shortened to Jay which I think is quite an attractive name. The name really doesn't matter it's the comportment of the child/its parents that can be classed as "chav" and it really doesn't matter if they're called Digby or Jayden.
Btw, ridiculous thread to start as you clearly were trying to be offensive rather than to solicit opinions on a potential choice of name.
