Chellesgirl · 10/03/2009 12:55

Wow, A long day ahead of me. gotta go see what dh is doing STILL in bed!

wotulookinat · 10/03/2009 13:12

We all make judgements about names on the baby names thread, though. I often call names pretentious. No harm in saying that you think a name is chavvy, IMO. Some people will like the name, some people won't.

Nasty

mrsruffallo · 10/03/2009 14:57

Why do you care anyway Gunnersbean, Geepers et al?
Do you have a little list with your top ten chav names in?
Do you tell your children to avoid these boys?
Come on, what's the point?

DevilsAdvocaat · 10/03/2009 15:07

my ds is called tyler.
when we told my dh's best friend, he said "oooh it's a bit chavvy like tyrone isn't it?!". i thought it was completely absurd. we are both teachers and most names we liked one of us associated with some little monster tyke.

so we both liked tyler and went with it. i agree that sometimes i hear names which are either made up or spelled in a really weird way and it makes me look twice. people judge, it's only human. what i don't do is go out of my way to make comments or go on to the internet to start a thread. that is purely childish and shows what a lack of content your life must have to spend time criticising others.

tyler and jayden are neither made up or new names. you have clearly upset lots of people here and i personally would appreciate it if people would give it a rest with saying tyler is a chavvy name because it is not.

wotulookinat · 10/03/2009 15:53

I really like the name Tyler.

lunamoon2 · 10/03/2009 17:10

Haven't read all the posts so apologies if repeating what others have said.

I don't think in itself any name is "chavy" it is purely the connotations which people associate with that name.
For example if the first person you ever met called Jayden turned out to be your best friend all the way through school, and you didn' meet another Jayden throughout your childhood then you would have very positive images associated with that name.

If in later years "Jayden" travelled the world and was a free spirit then you would probably love the name and find it hard to imagine a completely different person with that name.

Intersestingly as a child I cannot remember disliking names as such but only a vague memory of a few kids (all boys) having rather "old fashioned" names. Also I never thought "Oh I really don't like the name X because lots of my friends are called X and therefore it is too common".
x

mumofdjandbabies · 10/03/2009 17:13

who actually cares?

wotulookinat · 11/03/2009 09:43

MN would be a very boring place if nobody cared enough to comment!

Wolfblass · 11/03/2009 13:07

My sister really likes Jayden for a boy or Jay.... i'm really not keen she is due 4 weeks after me and we have chosen Gabriel Henry - she isn't keen on ur choice though!

wotulookinat · 11/03/2009 14:43

They are two very different types of name, wolfblass. I would say I prefer Gabriel Henry - it's more old-fashioned and I like that. Jayden is a more modern name, IMO.

mrsruffallo · 11/03/2009 16:50

I really like Tyler too, I don't think of it as chavvy.

MargaretMountford · 11/03/2009 16:52

I hate the use of 'chav' - so bloody unimaginative

yup, that's what I was expecting as I waited for the thread to open. It's cousin is kayden

wotulookinat · 11/03/2009 17:20

I've never heard of Kayden. Is it a boy's name?

MsBeauregarde · 11/03/2009 17:30

Kayden is next up doncha know?

Some chavs people love the letter k .

eg, Kaleb instead of Caleb.

I know it's not nice and I'm not proud of it, but I can't believe how pompous everybody's being! They never make judgements do they not? Not even quietly keeping their own counsel? They never, ever form an opinion on a name that is negative rather than positive?

I merely recognise a chav name when I hear one. I'm not an outrageous snob. I'm interested in names generally. I think it's my right to hold an opinion on any name, and my honest opinion is that the name Jayden wouldn't be an advantage to a child.

Do you want that for your child?! Or do you want to stick two fingers up at society in general and call your child Jayden and sod it, use your child to push back the boundaries a bit!

Excellent plan.

I'd call your son Jago Aidan and maybe nn him Jayden if you couldn't let it go.

James Aidan would also work. Or Jason Daniel? or James Daniel.

btw, Michelle is just dated imo. The name peaked after The Beatles song.

kkey21 · 11/03/2009 17:33

Well i must add my son is called 'Jay' ok not quite Jayden, but still and i had to laugh at the op as we are far from chavs!

Our friends son is actually called 'Jayden' and they too are far from chavs.....Actually he is a premiership footballer and was at the time of having their child!

Some people!

Lizzylou · 11/03/2009 17:36

Sorry, but being a Premiership footballer is hardly a guarantee of classiness

FairLadyRantALot · 11/03/2009 17:37

Well, fwiw...I think Jayden is a lovely name..

MadameCastafiore · 11/03/2009 17:40

Ha ha - I think it is the funniest thng I have ever seen on here - Not chavvy because they are Premiership Football Players!!
