I have a VERY unusual name. In fact its so unusual that if I told you and you googled it the only thing that would come up would be my Facebook profile (I tried it......so as I may need to post incognito one day I can't tell you.

Anyway despite not being paricularly thrilled with my name when I was a teenager, I love it now and would love to name forthcoming DC's with something unusual.

What are the most unusual names you have heard of for both sexes???

I was forewarned so it wasn't too bad. She was really sweet as well. If she had been a horror, it would have been so tempting to shout at her a lot

prmaspotter Boyd's quite common among my parents' generation in Scotland. I can think of two. I quite like it.

I met a baby girl when dd was tiny who was Ebony

I always wondered if they had a second one if they'd call it Ivory.

I know of a Ford.

And a Cosworth, not the same family.

And my husband did a baby check on a girl called Jamaycka (Jamaica).

Her surname was List. Honestly.

There was a Dante at the park today, and I have also met a Jazeria - not sure how it was spelt. It made me think of the arab TV channel AL-Jazeria but that just might be my ignorance.

Growing up I knew a wee girl called Tizzy, she was beautiful and if I ever get a girl would really fight with my husband to have it, its a lovely name.

Me and my mum have recently been tracing our family tree and found that we have a distant male relative called Nimrod.

When I was at school a friend moved to the Bahamas and had some friends called Blue and Tangerine (brother and sister - their surname was Curry).

tottie218 · 19/11/2008 18:23

Friend at work knows someone whose daughter is Jaegar (as in the clothes shop)

Saw on a TV programme someone called their daughter Kereasy (!)

PestoMonster · 19/11/2008 18:33

My dd1 knows a girl called Sherezade

blackrock · 19/11/2008 18:36

I cannot name them ,as think then I would no longer be anon...but I think where I live really obscure names are the everyday choice....my son has a top five names for his year of birth (purely by accident), and has ended up being quite unusual where we are.

I have in other places come across...
Heine
Barratt

A friend of a friend is called Pamplemousse. I love it but DH won't hear of it.

CoteDAzur · 19/11/2008 19:49

Why??? "Pamplemousse" means "grapefruit" in French.

WinkyWinkola · 19/11/2008 19:55

But the letters are just really pleasing. Nothing to do with the meaning.

LynetteScavo · 19/11/2008 20:00

When i have twin girls I shall call them clementine and Pamplemouse.
