I have a VERY unusual name. In fact its so unusual that if I told you and you googled it the only thing that would come up would be my Facebook profile (I tried it......so as I may need to post incognito one day I can't tell you.

Anyway despite not being paricularly thrilled with my name when I was a teenager, I love it now and would love to name forthcoming DC's with something unusual.

What are the most unusual names you have heard of for both sexes???

Hoppy, Lucky you lol My Grandad refused to teach us Polish his attitude was we were born here and we must speak this language!!!

DS2's Middle Name is Michal which was my dads name. The amount of times people tell me I have spelt Michael wrong is mad!!!

hoppybird · 18/11/2008 17:17

Yes, my brothers had similar spelling issues with their middle names (Feliks and Josef) They always had to spell them out. My parents were deliberately careful choosing all our first names so they wouldn't have to 'change' in English spelling - so I've got the most common Polish girl's name there is!

wotulookinat · 18/11/2008 18:08

Poulet - seriously? Loathe it. Trying way too hard imo. Foxes are flea ridden vermin, and Fox is no name for a boy. (or girl )

Wigglesworth · 18/11/2008 18:42

Prayer for a girl, not my cuppa tea.

BoffinMum · 18/11/2008 18:45

Gage, for a boy. Apparently it's French, but it always makes me think of car mechanics.

CoteDAzur · 18/11/2008 19:03

Gage is not a name in France.

It is a word, though, and means:

gage, nom masculin
(1) Garantie de paiement. Synonyme garantie (English: guarantee)
(2) Lors de certains jeux, action que l'on doit accomplir si l'on perd [Jeux]. (English: forfeit)
(3) Preuve, témoignage. Ex En gage de confiance. Synonyme marque (English: token)

Nice name

CoteDAzur · 18/11/2008 19:04

Here's the correct source.

BoffinMum · 18/11/2008 20:53

We thought it was a flippin stupid sounding name at the time, but the mum concerned swore blind it was medieval French.

Poor kid, lumbered with a name like forfeit for the rest of his days!

BoffinMum · 18/11/2008 20:54

If it was twins she could have called them Gage and Mortgage!

BakewellTarts · 18/11/2008 20:57

Impressed Alibean, very cool to have a Googlewhack for a name...

Not come across too outlandish names just the usual Surnames and mispellings.

Why do parents do this...?

NotanOtterOHappyDay · 18/11/2008 20:59
