I don’t think my baby will ever have a name

Please help!

I have been a long time lurker but have signed up for some help. My baby boy is due in 6 weeks and we have no names. I have scrolled through thousands of names and I think they are now all becoming meaningless but it’s making me
panic about naming our little boy. Any names I do like, DH doesn’t and vice versa. We both want a name we both like.

DH likes Apollo and Dawson???
I like Jasper, Felix and August.
Both would like something less common (I know my choices are more popular at the moment but just giving an idea of sound / style I like)

Any suggestions are welcome - we probably won’t use the names I’ve given as we don’t agree on them but opinions on those welcome
too.

Thank you

Felix Dawson sounds like a good compromise. Apollo makes me think of the gladiators

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 20/02/2026 14:25

Jasper Apollo is okay.

Id keep the weord names as middle names tbh

I generally prefer your name choices vs yout dh tbh

I like J and R names
Joshua is prob too "normal" / mainstream
Random wildcards
Roman?
Rafferty?
Rowan?

Apollo and August are very heavy burdens to rest on a child’s shoulders. If you really aren’t sure then just call the baby by a silly name like Baby Gosling until he is born and you meet him properly. You will have a few weeks to get to know him and his name will come.

I would keep your more fanciful names as little middle name gems that he can use or not, and find a first name that he will be able to use and live with for the next 80+ years without him having to watch peoples faces as they try not to react when they meet him for the first time.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 20/02/2026 14:27

Sorry but they aren’t very nice names, i would wait till hes born and decide then.

August means respected or impressive, and the month was named after Augustus, not the other way around.

It is a word and name in its own right and needn't have anything to do with the month.

FancyCatSlave · 20/02/2026 14:29

You need to stop panicking.

1/ You can decide when he is here. You don’t need to agree now. Your DH is likely to agree to anything you want once he has seen you push a baby out. It has magic powers!

2/ It seems hugely important at the moment but in the grand scheme of things it actually isn’t. DD’s was one I liked a lot but wasn’t my number 1 initially. But once she arrived it felt right. It’s still not my most favourite name in the world but it absolutely is the right name for her if that makes any sense. I didn’t know that until she was in my arms and I actually said it.

All will be well.

I like Felix.

You don’t have to pick the name because they are born during that month.

i know a few Aprils and Mays that aren’t born in those months.

Rex? Ziggy?

ThisLoftyGoose · 20/02/2026 14:49

Thank you for all the useful comments and suggestions. I’ll have a look through them all properly.

I find it slightly amusing that August had a bad reception and not Apollo (sorry to anyone with a little Apollo) I would have thought that was the ‘bravest’ choice of them all!

And to the lady expecting a little August, I think it’s a great name.

Never had a boys name we could agree on. Thankfully wanted girls and got them. Not sure what would have happened if we had boys.
