I don’t think my baby will ever have a name

Please help!

I have been a long time lurker but have signed up for some help. My baby boy is due in 6 weeks and we have no names. I have scrolled through thousands of names and I think they are now all becoming meaningless but it’s making me
panic about naming our little boy. Any names I do like, DH doesn’t and vice versa. We both want a name we both like.

DH likes Apollo and Dawson???
I like Jasper, Felix and August.
Both would like something less common (I know my choices are more popular at the moment but just giving an idea of sound / style I like)

Any suggestions are welcome - we probably won’t use the names I’ve given as we don’t agree on them but opinions on those welcome
too.

Thank you

I like Felix, but saw Frazer suggested, that's an awesome name.

PissOffJeffrey · 20/02/2026 21:15

We only had one boy name we both liked before having children so naming DS2 was pretty difficult 😆.

You don’t need to find a “perfect” name as it turns out, just a name you both like. DS2 is now 25 & we’ve never regretted his name even though it was more popular 25 years ago than we would have ideally liked.

I just love baby name threads! I have very standard biblical boy names a Samuel Thomas and Noah Keithan (my late dad was a Keith, baby Keith wasn't cutting it🤣) if I had my turn again for boys names I love Ari and Bohdi very surfer names. Also love Raffi, Cohen and Beaux. Good luck I'm sure you'll pick a winner. We also have a girl (eldest child) and it was far easier picking their name i found. They have a much more unusual none biblical name nothing like her brothers im not sure why! Hormones perhaps!🤣

IggyAce · 20/02/2026 21:28

I love my sons name it’s definitely not popular on here (surname), however if I did have another boy I’d call him Ezekiel or Lucian.

Terfarina · 20/02/2026 21:34

Wait and see what suits him.

You need to consider whether the name you choose will be good if he is:

  • introverted and conformist
  • extraverted and quirky
  • handsome or plain
  • a lawyer, judge, copper, brickie or teacher
  • has any awkward shortenings or initials or pairings that don't work. eg surname kerry, first name rowant - No!
Ooopsadaisybaby · 20/02/2026 21:39

You still have time, don't worry! But my view is that since you are carrying and birthing the baby (and possibly breastfeeding and giving your child your husband's surname) then you should get the casting vote. Unless your husband vehemently depsises your names, I think it should be up to you. I know I'll get a load of grief for this but it's my option and my husband went along with my choices (many years of fertility treatment too) x

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 20/02/2026 21:47

What about other O names

Milo
Otto
Arlo

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 20/02/2026 21:53

Mmm ... youve had around 8 months. Get on with it and choose a name.

LotsOfSmallThings · 20/02/2026 21:54

So I didn’t have any names to suggest originally but the poster saying Ezekiel above (which is a fantastic name btw!) reminded me of my fave ever boys name - Ezra!! I love it so much I wanted to call one of my girls Ezra just so I could use the name but OH said no 😅

ShinytimESs · 20/02/2026 22:38

i like your names- I had 2 girls but boys names I liked are Otis, Otto, Theo, Luca, Dexter, Arlo and George

Beautifulsunflowers · 20/02/2026 22:44

A few more to consider

Matthew - don’t hear this very often anymore
Jago - seems to fit your criteria?
Tristan
Victor
Gideon
Austin
Dexter
Rex

LittlePinkDinosaur · 20/02/2026 22:56

Neither of my boys were named until after they were born (we were team yellow, but both had boy womb names - Gorka, after a Basque cyclist we'd seen on TdeF and Paddy as there was a comedy duo with Ds1's name!). Both were about 3 days old and were just called little man or baby boy until we decided! Ds2 was in nicu for a bit and the nurses kept asking me to name him so they could do his cot card! You definitely have time to wait and see what he looks like.
I liked Luca, Theo and ivor (but that doesn't work with our surmame). Of your choices I've taught a jasper and an Apollo and Ds1 has a friend called Felix. Im not sure abt August or Apollo tbh. Dawson is always Dawson Leary to me!

Wicked123 · 20/02/2026 22:59

I always think Jasper and Felix sound like pet names… Dawsons about the best of this bunch in my humble opinion

everypageisempty · 20/02/2026 23:07

Roman
Magnus
Viggo
Erik
Cullen

Pettenell · 20/02/2026 23:13

I adore Jasper, Felix and August, which are among my favourite boy names, so my taste may be like yours.
I'm quite receptive to unusual choices but neither Dawson nor Apollo work for me.

Gus
Atticus
Casper
Edgar
Walter
Hugo
Milo
Miles
Dominic
Nico
Bastian
Douglas
Dermot
Rasmus
Rufus
Macsen

CastlesinSpain · 20/02/2026 23:14

I assume your surname isn't Dawson?
Someone above suggested Dexter - but what about if he turns out to be left handed? You'd have to call him Sinister instead!

Letterasaurus · 20/02/2026 23:16

Uriah?!
Canute?!
Beyond parody!

ccridersuz · 21/02/2026 00:09

Scot
Connah
Morgan
Thomas
Ralph
Ronan
Zak
Aaron
Dylan

I had names for my twins thinking I would have a boy and a girl, so my second son was named on the delivery table.
I gave them both second names, later.

ScruffMuffin · 21/02/2026 01:20

Trying to find some common ground between August and Apollo.... Atlas, Atticus, Arthur, Gustav, Casimir, Cosmo, Leopold, Ludo.

Some names linked to precious stones etc (like Jasper):
Onyx
Jet
Flint/ Flynn?
Malachi (from malachite)
Ruben/ Reuben
Clay
Coal/ Cole

Other virtue names (like August):
Clement
Ernest
Victor
Sage

Edits: posted too soon.

summergin · 21/02/2026 01:32

I do think there’s a lot of people giving “unusual “ names that’s in the next generation aren’t unusual…(my only strong opinion is Felix is a cats name) but what I do think would be a strong “uncommon” name in this day would be to go back to the basics (cute baby name normal adult name) Jamie, Jack, Stephen, Zak, Colin xxx

Paramaribo2025 · 21/02/2026 01:33

Just call him Baby.

summergin · 21/02/2026 01:39

Also to add “Colm, Col’ is an Irish name which is the equivalent to Calum” (it’s a name I don’t dislike, it’s a normal name) but don’t be naming your child after a herb, location, stone, because that will be common in that I belong on jezza Kyle
