I quite like Fox. I’d go with a longer classic middle name, like

Fox William
Fox Benjamin
Fox Nathaniel
Fox Theodore

OhDear111 · 14/02/2026 08:59

The issue is clear - the jokey names are not “helpful” but this child will face them all his life! How awful to do this to your child. The op should really talk to her Dd about this. Hopefully the middle name will be used! Poor child.

Lol. All the X-files fans rushing to the comments. This was probably in my baby names list as a teen tbf.

Ideally she should go for just a classic boys name, then Fox has some options when he gets older. David perhaps 😉

Although they did call him ‘spooky’ Mulder and there are a lot of Caspers’ around at the moment!

Alex, Eugene, Victor, Walter, Roland, Duane, Barry

All suitably spooky 😀

@MrsBadEnoch Perhaps you haven’t read the whole thread, the OP has very clearly given her opinion on the name here and said she has to her daughter too.

i have read OP's posts. Given the replies I don't think her comment was out -of-order.

I doubt that OP's DD gives two fox, for fox sake.

NarwhalBuddy · 14/02/2026 14:09

I don’t think the name Fox is as bad as it’s being made out.

hopefully OP s DD will find a middle name she likes as much as a first name

MrsBadEnoch · 14/02/2026 14:16

I don't think it's that bad either.

I don't like foxes and I wouldn't want my DGS to be nicknamed Foxy.

Sake?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/02/2026 15:04

Fox Oliver sounds nice, but the initials would be F O - not good, I’d suggest.

As an X-files fan, I like the name Fox - I don’t actually think it needs a middle name.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 14/02/2026 16:52

I don’t recommend a middle name starting with E or Y, because Fox E. Joseph sounds like Foxee/Foxy.

OhDear111 · 14/02/2026 18:11

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGeniusIt does if the child hates it and is embarrassed. Parents don’t always know best.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/02/2026 18:39

That’s a very good point, @OhDear111.

DinosaurDina · 14/02/2026 19:34

I have a toddler myself and whilst it's not my preference I don't hate the name, I think Fox Joseph sounds quite nice. There's between 50-100 boys named Fox every year for the last 10 years so it's not that unusual, same popularity as say Juliet. There were 450 male River's born last year (#117 in the rankings) and I don't think it's that different in style, and 75 boys named Bear. So whilst you might not agree I wouldn't worry too much at your daughter's choice, names are very different now.

Has she said what style she wants for a middle name, or other names she might like? Or are there other names that she's rejected already? That might help narrow down style.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 14/02/2026 19:45

I would definitely think Fox Mulder if I met a Fox!

I'm late 40s and was X Files obsessed in its heyday though.

OhDear111 · 14/02/2026 18:11

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGeniusIt does if the child hates it and is embarrassed. Parents don’t always know best.

Children hate their names for all sorts of reasons - too many other Sarahs in the class, too few other Tallulahs in the world, name too frilly like Arabella-Tulip or too clunky like Agatha-Gretel, toffee-nosed name or name you hear bellowed in uncouth accents in unsalubrious locations...

Parents don't know how thick a skin their offspring will have, and they have no idea what sort of names their child's future peers will have. They still have to make a choice, and frankly, if a child goes through life hating their name so much that it affects them negatively, there's more amiss than the name.

Hohofortherobbers · 14/02/2026 22:22

Surprised this is so divisive, there's worse names suggested on here than Fox.
I like Fox Alexander, I dont think the initials FAJ scream vagina, surely that's VAG?

Giraffehaver · 14/02/2026 22:46

Fox Alexander is the best suggestion so far

OhDear111 · 14/02/2026 23:17

@mathanxiety None of the names you suggest will make others laugh though! This child will need a very thick skin. There’s just too many reasons not to use it but definitely a second straightforward name would help. My DDs have non standard first names, then 2 more better known ones. DD1 says her name gets her remembered and it’s useful in business. But - it’s not making anyone laugh. Might as well use Elephant or Rhino.

Mulder

His middle name was William

I know the name is ridiculous, its not my choice for a baby but she wont change her mind. I suggested it as a middle name instead and a more “normal” first name but nope, I just get called controlling

The jokey suggestions aren't helpful.

I'm a traditional name person, and wouldn't use Fox BUT I don't think it's the worst and it goes well with Joseph.

My tendency would be to pull it back towards conservative and that gives him a fallback if he doesn't like Fox. I quite like Fox Arthur Joseph.

Calliopespa · 15/02/2026 09:49

Giraffehaver · 14/02/2026 22:46

I like this too.

Starthecar · 15/02/2026 18:27

I'm going to 'trot' out the often suggested name of Alexander; Fox Alexander, or you could try out Fox Benjamin, Fox Nathanial, or any name with 3 syllables would be great with a one-syllable name.

MrsBadEnoch · 15/02/2026 18:55

Fox Joseph doesn't flow.
Fox Alexander Joseph is too long.
I'd go for a shorter middle name of 1 or 2 syllables.
Fox Arthur Joseph maybe.

Fox Redmond Joseph
Fox (father's surname) Joseph
Fox Dominic Joseph
Fox Benjamin Joseph
Fox Valentino Joseph
Fox Sylvester Joseph
Fox Levi Joseph
Fox Frederick Joseph
