I guess something classic. I don't hear anyone making jokes about Bear Grylls and it's no different really.

Because Bear is not his actual name.

Erm so let me get this right....

The woman who is giving birth to her your child won't budge on the name Fox?

Ok, let's go with as real.

When the baby comes many parents change their view of a pre determined name so you could encourage this.

While I'm all for personal names, Fox unfortunately will no doubt envoke unwanted comments, including 'foxy' as a young girl.

There has to be compromise in relationships and naming your child is a huge one! Me and DH couldn't agree on our favourite names so chose completely different ones.

If real take the advice given. Xx

The baby is DD’s so really my opinion doesn't matter and I dont want to keep pushing over a name. She's had her heart set on it ever since she found out he was a boy and even telling her a teen/adult might not like being called fox she says it'll be different in x years and other babies are called bear etc so she should be able to call him fox

Thank you everyone for the serious suggestions, I do like Fox Alexander and Fox Sebastian, ill suggest to dd.

Fox Alexander sounds really nice. I like Fox and don't think it sounds ridiculous for any X Files fan

Agree, Fox Alexander is a strong name

he’ll be calling himself Alex by the time he’s 5, but don’t tell your daughter that xx

Oblivionnnnn · 13/02/2026 23:16

Fox is out there but pretty cool.

Alexander is a great shout.

Elliot
Tobias
Harris

Oh, and some people on this thread are dicks and not as funny as they think they are.

SettingSunStillness · 13/02/2026 23:17

Fox is fine.
Fox Alexander is great.
He'll be fine. There's far worse names..

EllieQ · 13/02/2026 23:19

I’m guessing she’s a fan of The X Files?

Fox probably won’t seem as ‘out there’ to other children nowadays, and I did meet one baby boy called Fox a few years ago. I’d suggest a traditional name as the middle name. Alexander would work well. Fox Mulder from the X Files has the middle name William, which also sounds good.

Cathmawr · 13/02/2026 23:20

I think Fox is a great name! What's so bad about being unusual?

Fox Alexander sounds good I think, and Fox Oliver.

WallaceinAnderland · 13/02/2026 23:22

Does she actually want a middle name and has she asked you for your suggestions OP?

WallaceinAnderland · 13/02/2026 23:22

I wouldn't go for Alexander because of the initials btw

Sake?

My choice too! 😁

AppropriateAdult · 13/02/2026 23:27

Fox is fine, and other kids his age won’t bat an eyelid - there is much more variety in names these days than when we were kids.

I think a two-syllable name works best between Fox and Joseph - Matthew, Daniel, Henry, David?

Bunionbabe · 13/02/2026 23:27

It can only be Cub surely.

user2848502016 · 13/02/2026 23:27

I actually quite like Fox and am usually one for
more traditional names.

I would go more traditional as a middle name though
Alexander
Arthur
Henry

CoastalCalm · 13/02/2026 23:28

Does he need a middle name ?

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 13/02/2026 23:28

Fox Alexander is great. I like the 2 x sounds. I don’t like fox Sebastian as much because the names blend together more.

other possibilities

Fox Harrison
Fox Benjamin
Fox Theodore
Fox Elijah
Fox Macauley

Does he need a middle name ?

I actually think 'Fox Joseph' with no middle name sounds quite chic

feebeecat · 13/02/2026 23:33

William.

BringonSpringnowplease · 13/02/2026 23:35

I think the name is fine. With the surname, they might find people mix them up and think he's Joseph Fox.

WeAreNotOk · 13/02/2026 23:35

Oh I wouldn't worry about it too much OP. I called my son an uncommon name and had no end of raised eyebrows.
Right from baby group we came across all sorts of (in my opinion) strange names plus we live in a very multi-cultural area so there were those difficult to pronounce names too.
I think all babies grow into their names and very soon you'll be glad he's named something fairly unique. Embrace the name with your DD.

Thingscouldntgetanyworse · 13/02/2026 23:35

Something normal so he can use it later in life instead of his ridiculous forename. I wish people would remember that babies grow up into adults who have to apply for jobs, meet a partner etc.

James, John, Adam… something like that

Dontpretenditssuchamystery · 13/02/2026 23:36

I love the first name Fox
Fox Joseph works lovely as it is
I do think Kit is nice for a middle name

titchy · 13/02/2026 23:37

It’s not that ridiculous at all, and I’m old!

Fifthtimelucky · 13/02/2026 23:39

I think a middle name starting with a vowel works well after the X.

I like Fox Edward, Fox Andrew or Fox Oliver.

I love the name Sebastian, but don’t think the S follows on well from the X.

I also like the name Alexander, but think it’s too long compared with the short first name and fairly short surname.

canklesmctacotits · 13/02/2026 23:40

I think a really, REALLY old fashioned name would work well. Medieval, even. Cedric, Alaric, Benedict, Durand. That kind of thing.
