Yes its a bit dated, but i find it refreshing and at least she'd almost certainly be the only one in her class. Maybe Lindy as an affectionate shortening. Thoughts?

Awful.

Even when it was fashionable it was not good name.

There are so many lovely girls names why would you choose this one?!

Never heard of any child called Linden, male or female.

I know a male Lyndon which I think is an alright name for a bloke.

Bournetilly · 28/12/2025 21:29

Lindy is cute. Definitely wouldn’t use Linda.

Linzi - oh dear!

Rude.

CamillaMcCauley · 29/12/2025 06:00

Late to the thread and not read it all but how about Linde as a spelling? Modern but the same lovely sound

Esperanza25 · 29/12/2025 06:10

I quite like it and as already mentioned, it means beautiful / lovely in Spanish.
I definitely like a softer version like Lindy, which I think would be cute for a little girl, but also fine for an adult.

It is dated. I would not saddle a child with this name.

It's dated but it will be back. A baby born now named Linda would likely dislike it as a child and then love it as an adult. I would have hated to have been named Pearl (for example) but would absolutely love it now. Instead of the on trend (in the 80's) name I have got. And so it goes. The general rule for name revival is 'not in living memory'. The Lindas are alive and well so it won't feel fresh again for a decade or two.

Rude.

Not rude. It was a toned down response. It's a bad spelling of Lindsay.

With the added bonuses of misspellings and mispronunciations.

WheresMyWimpleCrimper · 29/12/2025 11:22

I was never close to my mother but I am eternally grateful that she gave all her children classical names eg Matthew, Elizabeth, Catherine, Michael (her name was Brenda, poor woman). Born in the 60s and surrounded by fashionable names like Linda, Karen, Tracy, Tina, Barry, Dean, Shane, Colin etc, names that just sound so dated now. I would never advise giving babies fashionable names.

My thoughts too. As a teacher I got fed up of abuse from parents for not spelling or pronouncing their child's name "correctly" 🙄

No need to be rude. As someone who already has a variation of the original name, I can assure you that misspellings are common even with the standard version. It really hasn’t ruined my life in any way.

I wasn’t suggesting the OP abuse anyone who gets the spelling or pronunciation wrong.

My kids both have names that are the standard spellings of their names but are perhaps not obvious to all in terms of pronunciation. If anyone gets them wrong, I (or they) just politely correct them.

Surely in this modern globalized age you encounter a wide range of names of different origins and just have to learn how to pronounce them?

RaraRachael · 29/12/2025 14:17

If I was faced with a child called Linde I would have to ask how it was spelled and pronounced, as would every other teacher the child encountered. I'd imagine it would become very tiresome.

I didn't enjoy being called a stupid bitch by a parent who'd called their daughter Clayre.

Avantiagain · 29/12/2025 14:29

It was a name that was unheard of, popular for a short time and then disappeared again. It is very dated. It's not a classic that has come in and out of popularity over time.

pambeesleyhalpert · 29/12/2025 15:25

Linda is truly truly awful

Linda is truly truly awful

But why?

I always wished if was my name instead of the stupid one I was given. There were lots of Lindas at school with me.

It's preferable to Ada, Nelly and other old fashioned names that have made a comeback.

TheBirdintheCave · 29/12/2025 16:17

Nothing wrong with Linda! Go for it if you like it :) There were 23 born in 2024 so it is still being used.

Mimilamore · 29/12/2025 16:20

Linda is due a comeback… it’s very Scandinavian, if you like a name use it, think outside the box xx

tothewindow25 · 29/12/2025 16:21

I like Linda.

Don’t like Lisa or Lindsey (any of its various spellings) or Lynn.

I think Linda sounds much fresher than Lisa/Lynsey/Lynn etc.

It is common in women in their 70s, but I know a couple of Linda’s who are in their early 30s / 40s and it suits them.

Notmyreality · 29/12/2025 16:27

Firm no from me. Very dated and no its
not “due a comeback”

It’s just a really ugly sounding name to me

LasVegass · 29/12/2025 21:03

I think it’s pretty and nicer than Belinda (harsh BE-) or Melinda. It can be pronounced in only one way, it’s easy to spell. To my ear, it has a nice sound.

user1492757084 · 30/12/2025 10:16

No.
Linley
Lindsey
Belinda
Lucinda
Farline
India
Lynette
Rhonda
Rosalind
Jasmine

RaraRachael · 30/12/2025 10:39

Farline. Is that even a name?
Sound like directions 😅
