Yes its a bit dated, but i find it refreshing and at least she'd almost certainly be the only one in her class. Maybe Lindy as an affectionate shortening. Thoughts?

That’s literally one of the worst boys names 🤣

In fact I know a Linda who named her son Linden. They’re a batshit family.

Surely the boys' name is Lyndon, though I gather Linden was also popular as a boys' name in the US?
The Lindens that I know are all female, frequently called Lindy.

AmyDuPlantier · 27/12/2025 13:10

The Lindens I know are all boys and spelled exactly that.

Isnt it funny how regional some names could be!

RaraRachael · 27/12/2025 13:46

Never heard of any child called Linden, male or female.

Emanwenym · 27/12/2025 13:53

According to darkgreener, Linden, Lyndon and Lynden are boys' names.

HilaryThorpe · 27/12/2025 17:34

Not regional I suspect, but generational. All the Lindens I know were female and born in the 1940s and 1950s.

Pinkladyapplepie · 27/12/2025 17:38

No. A person aged 70 so not retro enough yet.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 27/12/2025 19:11

No. It’s the 50’s version of ‘Molly’. Dull, dull dull. And I say that as someone whose (similar sounding) name has been mentioned several times on this thread. I hate it. Like Linda, very of its time.

SoftBalletShoes · 27/12/2025 19:23

I think Linda is classic and beautiful. And there have been some gorgeous Lindas. Linda Evangelista, Linda Carter, Linda Evans. If you like it, go for it!

Sassylovesbooks · 27/12/2025 20:03

In Portuguese Linda means beautiful! It's my middle name! You will definitely find no other child called the same in her class at school!!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 27/12/2025 20:14

I have two aunts called Linda. To me, it is currently a grandma-type name that probably won't become fashionable again for at least another generation, but if you do go with Linda, at least she won't be lost in a sea of girls with the same name at school.

I've only ever come across Lindy in American books and programmes, but I like the name Linnhe (it's a Scottish loch), which I came across in a book.

Foxcubforest · 27/12/2025 21:13

A brave choice, because it’s so outmoded, but if you like it go for it. Lindy is nicer imo.

boogietrapps · 27/12/2025 21:14

I absolutely love it, especially as it means beautiful.

RaraRachael · 27/12/2025 21:21

I don't know why Linda is getting so much hate. Some far worse names have made a comeback.

PurpleSky300 · 27/12/2025 21:26

Depends on the association you have with the name, I guess? I like it because I'm a big Beatles fan and it reminds me of Linda McCartney.

MirandaBlu · 27/12/2025 21:28

Linda makes me think first of all of Linda Radlett in Pursuit of Love/Love in a Cold Climate and then the Spanish language word for pretty or beautiful. Coming from a situation where my children might grow up anywhere in the EU, I might hesitate to use Linda (beautiful, pretty) as a baby name in KIND OF the same way I would not use Una (one) or Mia (me), even though I like them. But then again, I might use it if I loved it the most of my choices. Certainly you could use Belinda, Melinda, Kalinda as a longer form abbreviated to Linda for "everyday" if you want.

A671090 · 27/12/2025 21:37

Please don’t go for Lucinda - I know two and they are both complete and utter cows……

RaraRachael · 27/12/2025 21:41

I never considered the meanings of either of my name choices. Still don't know what either of them mean.

HoorayHattie · 27/12/2025 21:45

Sorry, I really don't like it. I much prefer Lydia . . . .

You forgot Linda Gray - Sue Ellen

Nopenousername · 28/12/2025 15:36

I have 3 children under the age of 5: Linda, Gary & Keith

whatisthegoddamnholdup · 28/12/2025 15:52

Terrible sorry

RaraRachael · 28/12/2025 16:01

Don't like Lydia at all. Probably due to Emmerdale character always being referred to as Lyds which sounds awful.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 28/12/2025 17:03

Dull, tbh. Belinda, Melinda, Lindy, Linzi, all fine.

Emanwenym · 28/12/2025 18:17

Linzi - oh dear!

RaraRachael · 28/12/2025 21:12

Emanwenym · 28/12/2025 18:17

Linzi - oh dear!

We had a pupil called Linzi. She always said "I'm Linzi - L I N Z I"

Poor girl must have wished her mum had just used a normal spelling.
