Yes its a bit dated, but i find it refreshing and at least she'd almost certainly be the only one in her class. Maybe Lindy as an affectionate shortening. Thoughts?

I think it’s such a pretty name it has to be due for a revival!

I love the name Linda. Also Fiona. Yes she will probably be the only one in her class, but ist that better than saddling her with a name like Ava or Ria (multiple of both around here).
As baby Linda grows up, she will be utterly unique and stand out. I often try to imagine the name as a young adult starting off in the world. Would I give a unique Linda an audition or job interview, just to see who this uniquely named person is? Of course I would as its something a bit different to the Holly/Emily/Fraya/Mia/Olivia/Milly type names.

I like names that everyone knows but are not popular now. Linda is cool because it's unexpected (and "clean" as there's only one way to write it)

See that's where I think the complete opposite I think picking from the top ten or a try hard aspirational upper class set of names is showing not a lot of thought.
But this does show that the name picker is thinking outside the norm.
I also have a child with a popular in the late 70s and 80s name. Sort of like Kevin or Denis. I love it. He's the only in his class and people often admire it in a kind of, wow but I could never do that, kind of way! 😁Go for it!

Linda’s too dated, OP: it’s still in that Gladys zone.

Belinda, however, is lovely and unusual and quaintly retro. You could go for that and then call her Lindy, Lin or Linda for short; but she still has the option to be Belle or Bella if she prefers that later on.

Only one way to write it? 🤣 You must be a Millennial or Gen Z. I have a fair number of aunts and elderly relatives in their 70s and 80s who have a number of variants, from Lynda to Lyn to Lin to Lynde!

It really isn’t cool yet. Give it another 20 years and maybe; but in the mean time it’s still very much just about the uncoolest name you could pick right now 🤣

Linda is more like Tracey, Julie, Mandy, Karen, Joanne, Barbara, Sharon, Pauline.

Gladys is from the same era as Vera, Phyllis, Ida, Sylvia, Eileen, Beryl. And none of them are ready for a revival yet IMO. Like none of the names I mentioned similar to Linda are either.

I tend to like names chosen outside their usual generation. They can demonstrate some deeper thought and originality than the currently popular names. However I find Linda a bit bland and unappealing whether popular or unusual.

No, I'm 47, so I can't call myself a millennial... But I guess Lynda and Lynde are more "yoonike" spellings than proper ones (unlike Amelia x Amalia x Emilia, all proper nice nice names with reasonable spellings that sound the same)

I don’t love Linda personally, but objectively as a sound it should work! I think you’re just 10 years too early, but maybe that’s a nice thing as she’ll likely be the only one in her class.

As others have said, I’d prefer Lucinda, Belinda, Lydia, or even just Lin / Linn / Lynn? But with Glinda being so big just now in Wicked, Linda on its own might come back sooner than we all think.

If you love it, go for it.

Lynda was definitely not a yoonike
spelling - about half the auntie Lindas I know are Lyndas! It was probably more popular than the I in some places (esp the US).

There was a baby Susan at my DC’s nursery a couple of years ago, always made me smile! Luckily she was mostly called Susie.

There’s nothing wrong with the Claire apart from the Clare/Claire/Clair spelling and it doesn't sound nice in some accents.

@spangers, @Glitchymn1Names like Susan, Deborah, Julie, Sadie, Rachel, Louisa, Gemma, Ruth, Clare and Laura are fine.

@catontheironingboard , Lynda was popular but not as popular as Linda.
I don't like the Lynda spelling - it seems toremove the meaning.
Some of the Lindas I know go by Lin.
