Yes its a bit dated, but i find it refreshing and at least she'd almost certainly be the only one in her class. Maybe Lindy as an affectionate shortening. Thoughts?

Nooooo it’s so ugly! Don’t do this to your child.

ItsmeMargo · 26/12/2025 16:11

I do sometimes think the way names look on paper is what puts me off, but the actual pronunciation isn’t so bad.

Does anybody know what I mean?

sometimes names look pretty written down, but the actual sound isn’t so great. Like Phoebe. I think it looks nice written down, but the actual phonetic sound.- Feebee- Isn’t great IMO. I honestly think that if Phoebe was spelt Feebee, then less people would use it as a name.

Linda sounds rather nice. Probably helps that the only Lindas I’ve ever known have been lovely people.

HilaryThorpe · 26/12/2025 16:22

What about Linden?

Lucinda on the other hand would be a big yes from me.

Good shout!

RosesAndHellebores · 26/12/2025 16:28

It has a hard sound to it and whatever the accent, I don't see how that can be avoided. In my head I hear Bianca from Eastenders screeching "Ricckeeeee" but "Lindaaaaaah"

It's not ugly at all, it actually means pretty in Spanish. It's a name of a dear member of my family so it sounds fab to me. I love the idea of another generation of tiny Lindas running around, being menaces. I met a tiny girl called Olive the other day and had a quiet cringe to myself, but the fashions are changing and I will adapt.

BuffyWillow · 26/12/2025 16:31

My name is Linda (mid 80s) and it was out of generation then, I personally have no problem with it and I have only ever met one other Linda of a similar age. I personally like having an out of generation name and gave my daughter one too, I'd much rather be different than one of 5 Lily's etc.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 26/12/2025 16:34

It’s very dated which means it is due a comeback soon. Lindie is a cute nick name

I quite like Elaine which is also mega dated. But I reckon it’ll come back soon. It’s not dissimilar to all the fashionable El names and Lainey is a cute nick name

I’m allowed to think it’s ugly, that’s my opinion.

I love the name Elaine. I met a little Pamela just before Christmas, so cute.

PantaloonMad · 26/12/2025 16:40

I think it means pretty in Spanish? I think it’s cute!

RaraRachael · 26/12/2025 16:49

I love Linda and always wish I'd been called it. When I'm in Starbucks I always say my name's Linda.

Definitely due for a revival.

Dollymylove · 26/12/2025 16:49

Please dont. Its my name and I hate it. I wanted to be called Cleopatra 🤣
I dont mind Lindsey though

dontletmedownbruce · 26/12/2025 16:49

Lucinda, perhaps?

I think Cleopatra may have been problematic!

AgnesMcDoo · 26/12/2025 16:54

It is dated. But start a trend

bleakmidwintering · 26/12/2025 16:55

@RaraRachaelout of interest, how old are you?

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/12/2025 16:58

Too middle aged still for my taste. Lydia is nicer.

See, I think Lydia is an ugly name. It just shows how taste is subjective.

Rubyupbeat · 26/12/2025 17:00

I don't like this name, purely because there was a nasty girl in my class called Linda.....57 years ago.

Clingfilm · 26/12/2025 17:02

It's not cool now but it'll be back in fashion before long so get in there first!
Cute, short, feminine, easy to say.
A relative spells it as Lynda, which I prefer.

Too old and not made a comeback like Esme, Grace, Ruby etc
Linda isn't awful, but it's just like calling your daughter Pauline or Tracey or Joanne. I hate Belinda and Lindy just makes me think of Lindy hop or Lindy West. Linda, it's Linda Green (Tarbuck lass, old sitcom).

I've met or worked with Joannes of all ages, and know a little Joanna.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/12/2025 17:10

I know a teenage Linda.

There's quite a few "off" generation names in younger age groups as demographics have become more varied with more variation of cultural influences beyond British fashion cycles. It's nice to have more variety yet still feel familiar.
