Baby girl names… peach?

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:10

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

My thoughts exactly, I personally think the Jayden/kayden names sound chavvy but that’s just my opinion

Peachy keen. Yeah I think Peach sounds chavvy and try hard. Please don’t do that to your daughter. Whether it sounds sweet or not it is a fruit that people do t associate as a name and she will spend her life explaining it and being asked about it.

We can agree to disagree. Apple Martin is over 20 year old and it's still regarded as a stupid name. Because it's a fruit.

And a tech company.

MrsMitford3 · 13/08/2025 16:06

There are so so many lovely names-I always say on these threads with awful name ideas-please remember you are naming an adult-not just a squidgy baby.

It is a silly name for an adult person and won't be an easy name to have at school because it leads to so many jokes and NNs. She'll end up being Peach Fuzz shortened to Fuzzy if you're not careful...

I think you're being naive. People always judge names. Imagine Prime Minister Peach Starmer.
There are literally thousands of lovely more unusual girls' names out there without having to resort to stupid names.

That’s your opinion :) I think I’ll set my sights slightly lower than being in charge of a country.

Behave.

Maybe you can set yours lower but don't start out lowering hers!!!

Buxusmortus · 13/08/2025 16:08

If you call her Peach you're sure as hell going to get some reactions you won't enjoy when you introduce your new baby to friends/ family/ strangers. Stifled laughter will be the most common one, simply because it's a stupid name. Not calling her Peach doesn't mean she then has to be called Olivia or Amelia( both of which, whilst common, are still lovely names).

Skybluepinky · 13/08/2025 16:08

If you want her nickname to be bum it’d work. No idea what you are thinking, but poor child!

Everyone thinks different don’t they. I personally can’t stand Jayden/kayden and whatever else but again, that’s just my opinion.

Peach is silly IMO. It’s not a girls name. It’s a fruit. It Just reminds me of the peach emoji and the association with ‘bum’.

This!

Ahh okay, I’ll make sure she goes straight into politics.

I know a wonderful Lena I don't think it's very common at all. I'd 100% go for Lena.

I don't love Peach, not because it's too unusual, I prefer Cherry or Apple for fruit names. Or Mirabelle (a French small type of plum).

Poor child? She’s going to be nothing but loved and cared for and hopefully not grow up a judgmental little twerp.

How sad.
Most parents bring a child into the world with the view of encouraging them to aim as high as possible.
Prime Minister was just an example, what about a doctor, solicitor, teacher, actuary, called Peach, just so silly.

That’s very odd you suggested Mirabelle as my partner suggested it the other day. I’ve never heard of it

I think it’s silly and she might hate it when she’s an adult. I always think how will this name look on a CV when they’re applying for jobs?!
Peach is a cute nickname though so I would pick a more sensible name and just call her Peach as a family nickname- which could change as she grows.

I used to stay somewhere as a child where we'd eat them off the trees in the summer!

So you’re telling me you would encourage your daughter to aim for prime minister? Give it a rest. She could do all sorts of wonderful things I really doubt her name will stop her. Go sad yourself.

I hope you’re joking - you surely couldn’t be so cruel as to call your daughter Peach given that the Peach 🍑 also means arse when texting?

Let alone the silliness of the name.

PInkyStarfish · 13/08/2025 16:13

Some employers would bin any job applications from people with silly names.

Try to think ahead.

Well I guess she’s already screwed then considering her last name is a Spanish double barrelled name.

Peach is a fruit, not an arse. If people want to make everything sexual that’s on them.

It’s not exactly a case of “who cares what anyone else thinks”, when everyone who meets her in the future will be thinking how ridiculous her name is.

My children are adults in their 30s and extremely successful in their chosen careers, as well as having happy marriages and personal lives. I have no doubt they will continue to succeed and end up at the top level.
I brought them up to work hard and aim high, because that brings success.
If they had been interested in politics of course I'd encourage them to aim for the top.

Lowerback · 13/08/2025 16:18

I can think of nothing more daft that not giving your child a name you like because other people like it too. Because that is what you doing when you reject ‘popular’ names.

It’s even more daft when you stop and realise that ‘unique’ or ‘unusual’ names are the ‘popular’ trend nowadays.

Peach is not a good name imo.
