Baby girl names… peach?

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:10

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

Peach is not good.

Lena, on the other hand, is great. A strong name, classic and not too frequently used. Lena Headey, Lena Horne, Lena Olin... all amazing

The lord Leutenant of Bristol is called Peaches. Lovely name and really suits her..

Her legal name is Lois Patricia. She chose Peaches rather than having it thrust upon her.

And yet there you are shallowly judging people called Jayden or Kayden purely based on their names.

elliesmummy19 · 13/08/2025 16:40

I hate it sorry OP!

But you have specifically listed names you consider chavvy upthread...

Pot kettle black.

You are very chippy and defensive-if you post asking if ppl like a name and they don't and try and point out to you the potential pitfalls and you just get annoyed it's all a bit pointless isn't it?

*I also have a DD named after a fruit 😂

Edited

As I’ve said previously on the thread, a simple no I don’t like that would have sufficed not a horrible plain and nasty comment.

That’s okay, thank you for not going on a long road of why it’s disgusting and just giving an opinion.

Oh … someone picked peaches. Weird

I think Lena is lovely and not common at all. Peach is also quite lovely but I would never go for Peach as an official first name. I’d call her Lena Peach(es) so that she’d had a better choice when older. In the meantime you could call her Peach (or anything you like).

I mean would you not judge the same 3 jaydens and Kayden’s who abuse and all do drugs the same?

Sorry but I find Peach as downmarket sounding as the Jayden, Kayden type names you mentioned for boys OP. I’d put Peach/Peaches in the same category as Princess, Honey, Bambi, Bunny etc for girls. I’m sure they do cross the social spectrum but only as nicknames rather than given names - similar “Plum” for example is a nickname for Victoria and “Peaches” could be for any girl whose name starts with P or even that has a “peaches and cream” type complexion/baby cheeks like peaches etc. I’d give her a more formal name on the BC but it doesn’t have to be as popular as Olivia!

I did actually think of this but weren’t sure if it went together really. She has a Spanish last name so have struggled all around with a first/middle name

Cute when a baby. Potential to be ridiculous when a grown women- risky because it’s highly dependent on the person.

Lena isn’t exactly common. I know one in my whole area of London..

Don’t you know how Peaches Geldof died? Jadens and Kadens aren’t the only ones doing drugs…

I didn’t know peaches geldoff. I know the 3 Jayden/kayden’s that I’m in daily contact with putting them in isolation.

I knew a little girl called Evangeline with the nickname Peaches. She was adorable and both names suited. Would you consider a nickname? I like Peaches but the reality is kids can be cruel and I would worried she would be teased.

It seems it’s not just children that can be cruel but women as well 😂 peach is just an idea, one of many that I’ve had. I just wanted some opinions without what I can only presume (older women) giving nasty comments on how I’m basically abusing my child 😂 I would definitely consider a nickname though.

Princess Peach from Mario springs to mind!
I've never met a Lena (or taught one in 26 years as a primary school teacher).
I am not a fan of 'trendy' noun type names. My step daughter is called Honey and her brother used to call her bee excrement!
For what it's worth, I think Lena is a lovely name- a proper name but slightly out of the ordinary. I can imagine a baby, school child, teen, adult and OAP Lena. It would age well and always sound beautiful.

I do like it and I’ve never taught one either but it just seems to be other people saying it’s quite common at their/their children’s schools.

OP, you sound quite hostile. Hope you'll mellow once the baby arrives, otherwise you may have a differcult time ahead.
P.S Peach is a ridiculous name.

Alexandrine · 13/08/2025 17:03

If she will have a Spanish last name, how about pretty Paloma as a first name? There were only 40 born in the last set of name data, so unlikely to be another one in school. I can’t see you why you couldn’t call her “Peach” as a nickname.

Or Georgia? As in the saying “Georgia Peach” . Though there are closer to 400 girls named Georgia last year, it would still be statistically unlikely to have another in class.

DangerousAlchemy · 13/08/2025 17:03

I just asked my DD 21 what she thought of the name Peach & whether she'd like to be called that. She just laughed and said God no, it's an awful name. There are plenty of unusual great names out there. Your baby DD will grow up to be a teenager/young woman etc - she won't be a cute baby forever so don't give her a cute baby name.

DuckPuddledJemima · 13/08/2025 17:04

Peaches isn't a grown up name that future employers would probably give serious chances to.
However I don't consider my name common but thanks for that 😉

Silversaxo · 13/08/2025 17:07

Call your baby what you want. This notion that children get bullied for their name is no longer true. If you listened to most mumsnetters they would have you call your child Charlotte, Olivia, Ava (etc….repeat boring and mundane name) and be one of 3 in the class.

I think it might be more high profile because Zara Tindall named her second daughter Lena

I'm interested in why you a) made the assumption that people who disagree with you on here are older and b) think that's relevant? Coupled with your view that certain names are 'chavvy' I think you maybe need to look at yourself before accusing others of being cruel 😂
