Baby girl names… peach?

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

It’s not exactly a case of “who cares what anyone else thinks”, when everyone who meets her in the future will be thinking how ridiculous her name is.

I’m hoping she doesn’t surround herself/come in that much contact with the type people who would judge her based off her name.

Not sure why the OP even started this thread when they're being highly defensive and clearly aren't interested in what people think.

Well I guess she’s already screwed then considering her last name is a Spanish double barrelled name.

In that case help the poor child by giving her a normal first name. You aren't thinking about your child at all. Does her father think Peach is a great name?

PeppermintPatty10 · 13/08/2025 16:21

Lena is lovely! Your original idea was the best.

Some employers would bin any job applications from people with silly names.

Try to think ahead.

'Silly' is vague and subjective. I wonder if those same employers think Punjabi names are silly? Or Israeli ones? Persian? Korean? Irish?

The reality is, there are girls these days called pretty nouns. Like Honey and Peaches and Ruby and Clementine. And also lovely adjectives, like Scarlet. Peach/Peaches is lovely - but then I've known one.

My children are adults in their 30s and extremely successful in their chosen careers, as well as having happy marriages and personal lives. I have no doubt they will continue to succeed and end up at the top level.
I brought them up to work hard and aim high, because that brings success.
If they had been interested in politics of course I'd encourage them to aim for the top.

Yes I agree, how you bring them up is what matters. No one should be judged based off their name. Glad we agree.

Quite. She is also breathtakingly naive or stupid or both if she thinks no one will ever care or judge the name Peach.

IaltagDhubh · 13/08/2025 16:23

For a pony? Is it a pony you’re having? Then it’s perfect. Would work well for a cockerpoo too. Assuming you’re naming a human though, if you’re particularly keen on fruit, maybe consider Clementine or Cherry. Peach doesn’t even sound very nice, the pronunciation is too close to bitch imo. I’m biased, but I think Lena is lovely. My DD2 is Lena, short for Helena (I also had Rosalena on the shortlist, but I put that one down to hormones). In the last almost 18 years, she’s only ever come across one other, and that was spelled differently.

Finally someone on the same wave length 😊

I hope im not having a pony as I think I’d be in trouble when she’s trying to come out in two weeks time.

But people are judged by their name! You need to realise that however much you want that not to be true, it still is.

Anything but naive. Just didn’t realise how horrible some people are but that’s not something I can control unfortunately.

I have a very unusual (traditional) name and I’ve never met anyone with the same. It’s always stood me in good stead in terms of being remembered! I don’t think unusual names are a bad thing at all, but it’s not a binary choice between the most popular name available or a fruit! There are lots of beautiful and unusual names which won’t raise eyebrows.

Surely people should be taught not to judge someone on a name no?

If Aubergine is OK for a boy then Peach is OK for a girl.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/08/2025 16:27

I know a Peach, it's quite cute whilst she's 1 but I do wonder how much she will appreciate it as she grows and isn't a toddler anymore

Then don't subject your daughter to that possibility.

Yet in this thread you’ve judged Jayden/Kayden as ‘chavvy’ and Olivia as forgettable. You clearly judge people’s names so it’s a bit naive to think others won’t do the same.

Again, poor child? My child is so wanted and will be nothing but loved and cared for. Her father isn’t a judgmental little twerp and knows that a name doesn’t mean anything.

Or maybe I’ll teach her not to listen to or care about other peoples opinions. Especially when they’re so nastily worded.

It’s hard not to get defensive when people are so cruel/nasty. I was hoping for opinions not nasty bashes.

Pot kettle black.

You are very chippy and defensive-if you post asking if ppl like a name and they don't and try and point out to you the potential pitfalls and you just get annoyed it's all a bit pointless isn't it?

*I also have a DD named after a fruit 😂

Solange23 · 13/08/2025 16:37

The lord Leutenant of Bristol is called Peaches. Lovely name and really suits her..

Unicorntearsofgin · 13/08/2025 16:38

I knew a little girl called Evangeline with the nickname Peaches. She was adorable and both names suited. Would you consider a nickname? I like Peaches but the reality is kids can be cruel and I would worried she would be teased.
