Baby girl names… peach?

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:10

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

Well if other nature names are ok.....

In Miss Happiness and Miss Flower the baby is called Peach.

Yes but they were Japanese.

Peach is a silly name for a child let alone an adult.
Also Peaches Geldof died of a heroin overdose with her baby in the house, not a good association.

I don't think you can be snobby about names like Jayden (variant of the Hebrew Jadon) when you are wondering whether to call your daughter a fruit. Or is it just because you don't consider Peach to be a working class name?

As I said, my opinion. That isn’t me being snobby at all but when I hear Jayden/kayden at the school I work at and they’re smoking doing drugs etc and everything else, that’s what springs to mind. Im
wanting something different for my daughter and not something 6 kids will go running to if called.

No. It’s a fruit.

Really? When I think of the name Lena I see an older woman with harsh eyebrows and a smokers smile for some reason.

I think it’s got the potential to make a comeback 😄 I like it and it’s certainly better than Peach imo.

manicpixieschemegirl · 13/08/2025 15:37

I sort of get it because I secretly love Lemon for a girl but would never be brave enough to use it!

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:38

Christ wish I’d never posted this thread 😂 all
for people’s opinions, no problem at all but didn’t realise how nasty people can be. I guess i will
go with bog standard Olivia and hope I don’t get her mixed up when ten come running.

I really like Lena also! I also love Lana but was put off by the backwards spelling 😂

Don’t forget in 20 years time professional settings will all be staffed by Jayden,Kayden, Okaydens etc, Peach and the like will be the norm

We can agree to disagree. Apple Martin is over 20 year old and it's still regarded as a stupid name. Because it's a fruit.

Well I guess I’m back to the drawing board 😂 unless I decide to be brave!

Can I suggest you try it for size yourself? Go into Costa, order a coffee and tell them your name is Peach. Just see how you feel saying it with a straight face. Do you feel a bit embarrassed? Or does it actually feel no different to saying "Emma"? It will help you understand how your daughter will wear her name.

OP go for Peach if you like it its your child, and tbh the name suggestions on here are usually awful and stuffy (IMO)

OxfordInkling · 13/08/2025 15:44

I might do Persephone, nn Peach.

but not Peach on its own.

And even Persephone is a bit much.

Remember, your child has to live with the name, not you.

Avocadohoho · 13/08/2025 15:46

Would you really want to be called Peach?

There’s a middle ground between not wanting your child to be the 6th in its class and having a name that gets responses like you’ve had here. Which no one in real life will give you because they’re too polite.

I also work with kids, everyone always remembers the strange names.

Surely her nickname should be Pomegranate 😉
Pommy?
Pomme? (back to apple..)

I quite like Peach but the only ones I know are Princess Peach, and a cat. I'd be a bit worried about bullying with the emoji connotations 🍑
Nectarine?

NewBlueNoteBook · 13/08/2025 15:52

Would you like to be called Peach yourself?
Would you like it if your Mum was called Peach (or would you have liked it as a child)
What would you think if your Doctor/Police woman/Solicitor/Accountant was called Peach?

Can you imagine a 50 year old Peach?

Olivia is a lovely name but there’s a considerable middle ground between Olivia and Peach.

I have an unusual name and gave both my children unusual names but they have to work on adults, not just cute babies.

Doitrightnow · 13/08/2025 15:53

It's too strongly associated with the bottom for me.

Askingforadvice78 · 13/08/2025 15:54

I've worked with a Peaches. It's a lovely name. I did think it was a bit odd before I'd met her, but then someone becomes their name and it isn't just a fruit. Otherwise Lily, Rose, Iris, Ivy, Poppy.... Would all just be flowers. I prefer Peaches to Peach. It's so pretty.

I also know a Raine. It works as a nature name but it's not as pretty as Peaches, in my opinion.

I would go for it. I like Lena too.

Marylou2 · 13/08/2025 15:57

In future if she's called to the Bar or sits on the Bank of England monetary policy committee, are we imagining that Peach will raise her credibility?

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:59

thank you everyone for your responses. I would like to think that not everyone would be as shallow to judge her on her name when she’s older and instead judge her on how kind/caring/professional (I’m hoping) she’ll be.

Yes exactly, no one would remember the 6 Olivia’s who all go for the same job interview.

I think it’s a stripper name, sorry. How about Posie or Polly or Peonie instead? Or Blossom?

Wishimaywishimight · 13/08/2025 16:03

Imagine the embarrassment of turning up for a job interview and announcing yourself as 'Peach'. Seriously, have some compassion for your child and their future 🙄

Edited

I think you're being naive. People always judge names. Imagine Prime Minister Peach Starmer.
There are literally thousands of lovely more unusual girls' names out there without having to resort to stupid names.

Silverpaws · 13/08/2025 16:03

I wish I'd named my youngest Daphne, beautiful, not silly, and never met anyone with the name.
