Morning, trying to work out if this is a good idea or if baby brain is sending me actually crazy haha.

I have a DS named Wren. We're now expecting #2, and there's a name I just can't get out my head. I've never heard anyone in our lives called this, but I'm worried that's because it's not a real name haha.

I absolutely love the idea of naming this little one Sparrow. Tell me (gently haha) if I'm mad, but I just love it.

DH loves Robin, but I already know of two Robin's.

Evan is lovely.
Olive or Celeste.

pambeesleyhalpert · 10/02/2025 18:58

My friend just had a finch which I like! Love wren

Wren for a boy? Bet he loves that when he’s older. Especially if he turns out to be a 6 foot 4 rugby player, lol. Glad you like it anyway.
Sparrow defo has ‘poor, little sparrow’ vibe attached to it for me, not great.
Nature names can be lovely - god, choosing is a minefield though isn’t it. Good luck with baby number 2

Does a comment like this do anything other than make you (presumeably?) feel good and the OP feel a bit crap about a name her boy has had for two years now? Surely there are kinder ways to spend your time.

Fwiw, OP, I think Wren is a fab name for a boy or girl. Sorry you've had a rough pregnancy - I had the same and it was awful. Hope things keep looking up from here on out Flowers

roshi42 · 10/02/2025 18:59

I love nature names. Do like Sparrow, but not with Wren - shame! Such a cute nickname though. I think be careful with birds names not to sound a bit too themed, but Robin works. Or my favourite bird name is Merlin!

MayaKovskaya · 10/02/2025 19:04

Wander? Does DH mean Wanda?
The others aren't too bad.
Robin, Evan, Olive and Celeste are lovely.
Just remember they'll have the name in adulthood so avoid whimsy.

GreeneryGrass · 10/02/2025 19:05

@falalalalaaaaaaaa I just want to say thank you so much for this. I think people forget there's a person on the other side of the screen? I came on here knowing I could get a bit of fun poked at me but honestly didn't expect grown (mainly) women to enjoy degrading a two year old boy and another woman who is just trying to have a fun, maybe cheeky conversation about a bird name. I didn't ask for opinions on my little boy's name - I know putting anything online opens you for judgement but I thought there'd be a line of ethics at some point? Honestly thank you, it's a really hard time right now so your comment has really gone appreciated ♥️

I think a good plan is to imagine you're walking into a room full of people and you'll have to introduce yourself.

Hi, I'm sparrow.

Errrrrrrrrrr

Maxorias · 10/02/2025 19:19

Boy:

Robin : I dunno, I like the unisex and nature vibe but together with Wren I'm not sure
Evan : like but not love, it's just a bit common (especially compared to some of your other choices !)
Forrest : I don't hate it but the end makes me think of Ernest, and by association it makes the name sound a bit... stuffy ? Old-fashioned ? Which I don't think is what you're looking for !
Copper : I actually like it, but I think it's 1 bit adventurous. How well your child bears this sort of name will depend a lot on their personality so it's a bit of a risk maybe ?
Wander (not sure?) : not keen on using a verb as a name, I'd stick to nouns (though I do like the sound of it). How about Sander ?
Bramble : sorry but I'd say no to this one, it sounds a bit like a name out of a fairy tale - and if you like this kind of vibe I'd personally go for something like Oberon rather than Bramble !

Girl:

Poppy : I'm probably in the minority but I don't like it, not sure if it's the "pop" sound, or the fact that it doesn't really have any nice shortenings, or the link between the flower and cocaïne, but I struggle to like it.
Maple : love the tree but it reminds me a bit of mrs Marple 😬
Hazel : I like it quite a lot !
Etta : it's nice but I think it's nicer as a shortening for a longer ette or etta name, such as Henrietta, Odette, Colette, etc.
Olive : I like it but there have been a LOT of Olivers and Olivias recently...
Clover : I like it, it's not my favourite in the list but it's nice
Ember : I'm sure some people will say "it's Amber not Ember !" but I like the meaning of Ember ! It's nice.
Wander : yeah really not sure
Celeste : love it

So my fav for boys would be Sander or Copper and for girls Celeste and Hazel.

As an aside I also love Aurel for a boy. It means gold in latin.

falalalalaaaaaaaa · 10/02/2025 19:26

You're so welcome ♥️ Sorry you're getting such a rough go on here.

Of your DH's suggestions, I really like Olive, and Ember. Love Robin. I used to know a boy called Bram (short for Abraham or Abram I think, but he never used the long form) and it suited him so well!

Thank you so much. I hadn't seen his updated list until I put it on here and I'm really liking Ember to be honest! I also like Forrest but I'm not sure because then I think of Forrest Gump (though kids may not know of this haha).

MayaKovskaya · 10/02/2025 19:33

I agree that Bram would be a better name than Bramble.
Etta is nice, and not over used (plus easy to spell!).
I love the name Arden which is a Shakespearean forest! Or Oberon?
Odile and Odette for a girl, perhaps?.

Ravensperch · 10/02/2025 19:40

If your heart is set on another bird name I really like Raven, Sabine (a type of gull), Oriole, Serin, Cory (Cory’s is one of the shearwaters), Linnet.

Nature names - Hazel, Linden, Brooke, Iris, Briony, Briar, Tove, Stella

Yikes is that Aural pronounced oral? I wouldn't do that to a child.

I love Wren as a name I thought it was a girls name but apparently it's unisex and I love wrens too!

I'm not sure about some of your choices though, definitely not Sparrow OP, that would be crazy! Copper makes me think Copper pipe - or did you mean Cooper? Wander isn't a name so I'd give that a miss. Forrest just makes me think Gump. I know a couple of dogs called Bramble so i wouldn't go for that. I think Robin and Even work really well though.

I like all your girls names apart from Clover - sounds like a name for a cow, Ember, and Wander which isn't a name in English. I love Celeste and Poppy.

When it comes t natural names I also like Ash, Willow, Bryony and Laurel.

KayEmAy · 10/02/2025 19:43

I LOVE Wren for a boy! My other favorite bird name would be Jay :)

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/02/2025 19:45

Linnet is pretty.

Alouette means songbird in French.

Not Sparrow. Definitely not.

Simplelifenodrama · 10/02/2025 19:45

Dove ?

Maxorias · 10/02/2025 19:46

"Yikes is that Aural pronounced oral? I wouldn't do that to a child."

Uh... No, it's Aurel pronounced Aurel. In French it's more usually written Aurèle (and also more often comes as a composed name Marc-Aurèle).

GreyhoundGal1 · 10/02/2025 19:46

Wren is a lovely name :) Of the updated list I like Robin but might be too on the nose with Wren, think Evan and Forrest are good, but Copper, Wander and Bramble are too adventurous for me!

I went to school with an Everest which you might like? Or River is a more well used adventurous name (there were 410 boys named this in 2023).

I think all your girls names are nice except Clover which is just a bit too cow/butter related for me, Maple is too food related and Wander doesn't feel like a name to me. My favourite would be Celeste, but I think Ember would go super nicely with Wren.

paranoiaofpufflings · 10/02/2025 19:58

I love Wren for a boy, it feels strong but graceful at the same time.

From your later list I love Robin or Evan, and Hazel and Ember.

One that comes to mind for me, that I wonder if you will like too, is Aster? Works for boy or girl and gives you a nature theme.

Nicole Ritchie has a son called Sparrow.

I've always thought Starling would be a lovely name for a girl!

Not to be mistaken for Stalin

SnackSnack · 10/02/2025 21:14

I do like Robin or Lark, one of mine was going to be Lark until I realised the local accent would mangle it to 'Laaaaaakkkkkk'. Something to think about.
How about Radagast?
