How many Jude’s do you know?

I’m thinking of calling my second DS Jude but I am worried about its popularity. I’ve personally never met a male baby or adult Jude but have seen about 5 influencers on Instagram naming their child this! It does put me off but would it be silly to not use it for this reason even though I love it? I had the same issue with the name Ezra with ds1 and in the end didn’t go with it because it suddenly got very popular when I thought I was being unique! I really don’t want a ‘trendy’ name for my child that will date badly. Is Jude one of those names??

One, he's 10 or 11.

Three
Two women in their 50s and a teenage boy.
Also a Judith in her 50s known as Jude.

I just posted about Jude as it's our fav name. I've learned it means 'jew' in German and has an unfortunate association, so now I am worrying about it being problematic! Due in just over 6 weeks

I do really like Jude but it is perhaps, as you fear, one to avoid if you don't want a latest trend name.

For all those saying they don't know any at their child's school so it's not that popular, it didn't really start to boom until 2022 so we won't really see the impact in primary schools for another couple of years, and it will be another 10 years or so before it's probably one of the most popular names in secondary schools. It's only really in nurseries/baby and toddler groups where I would expect it to seem really popular right now.

Only you can decide how much it would bother you OP if your child ended up with a name strongly associated with his era.

Two, aged 24 and 21. I don't know how popular it is currently as I don't spend any time around babies and young children. I really like it as a name.

I don't know anyone called Jude.

I think you have to remember that even if it's quite a popular name, that's still likely only about 2,000 babies per year being given the name, and popularity changes over the years, it might be way down the list in a few years time.

Across the country, that's not necessarily very many!

You might meet a few, but the chances of bumping into a lot of them are not that high.
