How many Jude’s do you know?

I’m thinking of calling my second DS Jude but I am worried about its popularity. I’ve personally never met a male baby or adult Jude but have seen about 5 influencers on Instagram naming their child this! It does put me off but would it be silly to not use it for this reason even though I love it? I had the same issue with the name Ezra with ds1 and in the end didn’t go with it because it suddenly got very popular when I thought I was being unique! I really don’t want a ‘trendy’ name for my child that will date badly. Is Jude one of those names??

We know two. A 5 yo and a 3 yo

Motherrr · 27/01/2025 13:56

I've only heard of one person naming their child that who I know

stillnotdark · 27/01/2025 14:10

One, he's in his 30's
Work in a High School and can't recall any at ours that I've heard of.

SallyWD · 27/01/2025 14:14

None

Andthebellsringout · 27/01/2025 14:16

One aged about 10 and the obvious actor.
It's a nice name and a great song ( no idea if that would become annoying.)

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/01/2025 14:17

Several.
The youngest is a 6 month old boy, I know 2 others of primary age and finally a woman in her 40s

MaMisled · 27/01/2025 14:18

None. Lovely name.

TinyMouseTheatre · 27/01/2025 14:18

Only know one. He's in Y11.

BabyDoge · 27/01/2025 14:26

There's one Jude in my son's class, don't know anymore I don't think.

tinytemper66 · 27/01/2025 14:28

2 both around 12 years old but live in two different parts of Wales.

I know. That’s why I said “There are a lot of posters on here who do not fall into the category of having young children on here”.

There are, of course, “tons” of mothers of young children on here too 🙄.

I’d advise you have a caffeinated drink so you can focus and stop skim reading.

I can read just fine thanks.

Your post suggested that MN is not the right place to ask this question as it is not sufficiently representative of mothers of young children. I disagree.

It's possible to disagree without being rude, but the way.

There’s one in our NCT group (all the babies were born last year). Interestingly though, his mother said that she has two friends who were considering it as a name for their babies, and she’s come across another in a baby group. So it likely is picking up in popularity.

Emanwenym · 27/01/2025 15:02

@Cactusprick , I think it will only be the mothers of very young children who will realise it's very popular.

I don't know a single Arlo, yet the name is extremely popular now. Some friends had it on their shortlists.

Kdubs1981 · 27/01/2025 15:09

LOADS!!!!

I know 5 under 10. 2 in one baby massage class

My post didn’t suggest that actually. You read it incorrectly.
What I was saying was the majority of posters are not parents of young children. Jude has shot up in the list of most popular baby names in the last 5 or so years, so it’s a name that mums of young children would hear more often than allllllll the other categories the posters on here fall into would. I certainly didn’t suggest MN wasn’t the right place to post 😂

Also, thanks for the heads up. There’s another great phrase people use, not sure if you’re familiar with it. It’s “treat people how you wish to be treated”. Your “huh?” was rude. Just because you don’t understand someone’s point there’s no need to be rude 😌

You did though, you literally told the OP she was asking in the wrong place. That's what I was responding to...

YoungMacDonald · 27/01/2025 12:09

I know one - a boyof 2 years.
You will likely get an unbalanced poll on here though because people who don't know a Jude are less likely to comment.

Exactly! This is my point.
And the ones who say they don’t know anyone with that name aren’t very helpful, because clearly the stats show how popular it now is.
If 45 year old Sally posts saying she thinks it’s lovely and doesn’t know anyone called Jude then that’s great for her, but you’ll be the one shouting “Jude S” or “Jude B” or whatever, because how many babies does Sally know that were born in the last 5 years? Do you see what I mean?

So you really think the majority of posters are mums of young children? 🤦🏻‍♀️
Even if you argued that “young children” was up to age 7 you’re still so far from labelling those mothers as the majority.

TheBumbler · 27/01/2025 15:32

My 1 year old grandson is Jude

Solaire18381 · 27/01/2025 15:32

I know a woman with this name who is in her late 50's. Real name Judith.

SingingSands · 27/01/2025 15:37

I know a few, we are "up North" where I think it's fairly popular.

Incidentally, I just watched the film "Jude" last night on iplayer (based on the Thomas Hardy novel 'Jude the Obscure') and it was fucking miserable and I'll now always associate the name with that story. It was grim.

Oh yes apart from everything else, the patron saint of lost causes. Somewhat risky for a fertility clinic
