How many Jude’s do you know?

I’m thinking of calling my second DS Jude but I am worried about its popularity. I’ve personally never met a male baby or adult Jude but have seen about 5 influencers on Instagram naming their child this! It does put me off but would it be silly to not use it for this reason even though I love it? I had the same issue with the name Ezra with ds1 and in the end didn’t go with it because it suddenly got very popular when I thought I was being unique! I really don’t want a ‘trendy’ name for my child that will date badly. Is Jude one of those names??

I don’t know any. I’d say go for it!

CoffeeCueen · 27/01/2025 10:56

Out of about 80 kids age 5 to 6 I know one Jude.

Cactusprick · 27/01/2025 10:57

I know 5. One my age (31yo) who is a drug dealer 😵‍💫, one at my son’s preschool (3yo), one is my husband’s friend’s son (6yo) and 2 of my friend’s children (2 months and 2yo).
It’s pretty popular.

You’re probably asking in the wrong place tbh op. Most people who know of Judes will be probably mums of younger children because it’s become very popular in the last 5 or so years.
There are a lot of posters on here who do not fall into the category of having young children on here.

I know one almost 4 year old. And it's bloody adorable on a little kid. It's also one of those great names that everyone knows but not many people are called so you won't have that awkward thing of a new teaching staring at a register trying to work out the next name that's written down.

Have a look at this baby name uniqueness calculator: datayze.com/name-uniqueness-analyzer

This is so stupid. Unique means the only one. Jude is not unique. There are shed loads of them 😂

LadyAsnowt · 27/01/2025 11:13

One, in his mid-30s. He's from overseas if that makes any difference to your research. I really like the name.

mamajong · 27/01/2025 11:26

I know 5 Judes, 2 middle aged ladies (Judith), 1 male early 20s and 2 baby boys both born in the last year.

I feel your pain, I chose unusual but regular names for my DC and 1 of them became really popular and is now so common. I console myself that it could be worse as my friend is called Karen, and gets constant quips about if she is going to moan about everything, and her daughter is called Alexa and it's a nightmare for her, the other kids constantly asking her stuff thinking it's hilarious! 🙄

So much rests on a name!

Tellmemore16 · 27/01/2025 11:27

I don’t think it’s overly popular, I only know one Jude, he’s 8 and a lovely little boy. I think it’s a nice name

Shezlong · 27/01/2025 11:27

Cluelessbee · 27/01/2025 09:38

The only Judes I know in person are middle aged women.

Same - I know 3 Judes, all women

Sakura7 · 27/01/2025 11:29

One, a woman in her 20s.

modernshmodern · 27/01/2025 11:29

Huh?

There are tons of mothers of young children on Mumsnet.

Bankin · 27/01/2025 11:31

I wouldn't worry about it being popular on Instagram it definitely doesn't reflect real life. I've come across one Jude and I know hundreds of kids he must be about five now.

Personally not for me because it translates to Jew in German and I can see that causing issues in secondary school. Kids that age can be really brutal

OneAquaGoose · 27/01/2025 11:35

I know a 3 year old boy, a 40 something woman and my old 60 something boss. Boss was always know as “Hey” though.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/01/2025 11:44

I know two. Woman in her 50s - it’s a nickname, her name is Judith.
Teenage boy (14) where it’s his actual name. Nice name I think.

I know. That’s why I said “There are a lot of posters on here who do not fall into the category of having young children on here”.

There are, of course, “tons” of mothers of young children on here too 🙄.

I’d advise you have a caffeinated drink so you can focus and stop skim reading.

My son is Jude and there are a few in his school. DS is 9 and I don't think it was all that popular when we named him.

DH picked it as he is a big Beatles fan

GloriousBlue · 27/01/2025 11:54

Lots actually.
May be significant that DD goes to an Indie school in Kensington
He's got 2 in his year and one in the year above.

housemaus · 27/01/2025 11:54

One eight year old boy, one woman in her fifties.

Acc0untant · 27/01/2025 11:56

It was 31 in the most popular boys names last year so I expect it's more common than people have experienced, probably a lot of small babies called Jude.

DazedAndConfused321 · 27/01/2025 11:58

Jude is as common as Arlo and Finley here. Tbh I'm sick of hearing it being called an unusual name.

Sk1sk0 · 27/01/2025 12:01

One in the secondary school I work in

HMW1906 · 27/01/2025 12:02

My youngest son who is nearly 2 is called Jude. I’ve come across 2 of a similar age since. One when he was about 2 days old and we had to go back to the hospital due to jaundice, there was another baby Jude of the same age with jaundice and at a baby group we went to briefly there was a Jude.

We’ve done multiple baby groups, etc since and he goes to nursery and he’s the only Jude there (although they have put his surname initial on his name tag so I feel like they might’ve been pre-empting that he won’t be the only Jude as they only
put the surname initial on if they have more than one of the same name although he’s been there for a year and he’s still the only one). Oh actually I k ow someone who is pregnant and she told me the other day that they’re naming their baby Jude so I suppose that will be 3 other Jude’s I’ve come across.

NPET · 27/01/2025 12:03

I've had one ex called Jude. He was always pleased about it not being common but annoyed because some people (not me) thought it a "girly" name, like short for Judith. He'd be 22 now.

Brodpit · 27/01/2025 12:05

I know of about 5 in their early 20s - my DC’s age. It seemed to be popular after Jude Law (his first name is actually David!).
