How many Jude’s do you know?

I’m thinking of calling my second DS Jude but I am worried about its popularity. I’ve personally never met a male baby or adult Jude but have seen about 5 influencers on Instagram naming their child this! It does put me off but would it be silly to not use it for this reason even though I love it? I had the same issue with the name Ezra with ds1 and in the end didn’t go with it because it suddenly got very popular when I thought I was being unique! I really don’t want a ‘trendy’ name for my child that will date badly. Is Jude one of those names??

I know one - a boyof 2 years.
You will likely get an unbalanced poll on here though because people who don't know a Jude are less likely to comment.

poppymango · 27/01/2025 12:28

I love the name, have never met a Jude in real life.

Will it be short for something or just a standalone name?

Emanwenym · 27/01/2025 12:46

Several but they are adult women. I don't like the name.
Babies called Jude in England & Wales since 1996

DelphiniumBlue · 27/01/2025 12:48

I’ve only taught 2 Judes in 15 years. They’d both be mid-late teens by now. I’m in London.

Warriormumma · 27/01/2025 12:53

It had a surge a few years ago and seemingly having by another there is two in my sons very small nursery and I work on a post natal ward and there have been a fair few in the last year or two

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 27/01/2025 13:06

My children were IVF, the doctor’s name was Jude, the clinic was St Jude’s and the patron saint of fertility is St Jude. I can’t believe I didn’t use it for one of my children. It’s a very special name to me

Dobbycraft · 27/01/2025 13:12

I personally know 1 newborn Jude, and have come across a few in baby/toddler groups over the last couple of years

MrsPeregrine · 27/01/2025 13:14

2.A woman whose name is Judith but she often gets called Jude. And a little boy called Jude.

YouveGotAFastCar · 27/01/2025 13:17

4 under 2.

Jude Bellingham has made it more popular. Most of the Dads I know have suggested Jude for a boy because of him 😆 But I don’t think it’ll reach crazy heights, and England aren’t really on fire right now, it may well have peaked until the Euros.

sanityisamyth · 27/01/2025 13:18

2 - one male and one female

evtheria · 27/01/2025 13:21

1 - he's 11.

Missguidedsmiles · 27/01/2025 13:23

Why don't you try looking at names/meanings from other countries/languages.

EnterNowhere · 27/01/2025 13:23

I know 4 Jude’s. One is a teenager, one is around 7/8 and the other two are both 1. It’s a lovely name.

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 27/01/2025 13:25

One man in his 50's

VeryQuaintIrene · 27/01/2025 13:28

Patron saint of lost causes and the hero of the most depressing novel in English literature. Just no.

bluebunnys · 27/01/2025 13:29

I only know female Judes. It's such a popular shortening for Judy and Judith.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/01/2025 13:29

I don’t know any of any age.

bluebunnys · 27/01/2025 13:33

Personally not for me because it translates to Jew in German

That would put me off too. It's such a well known word, pronounced Yoo-de, that it doesn't travel well internationally imo

Porkyporkchop · 27/01/2025 13:34

We have one at our DDs school and used to know an older man named Jude

Mrsttcno1 · 27/01/2025 13:34

I do think it’s quite a popular name now but if you love it then don’t let that put you off. I have 2 friends with babies called Jude and there are 3 other Jude’s at our baby sensory/playgroup.

Wailywailywaily · 27/01/2025 13:37

DS has this name, he is 15. To my knowledge no one has even teased him for it. The only negative reaction we have ever had for it was in Italy when he was a baby, where they really did not like the name!
I like that it’s the patron saint of lost causes, and also don’t mind the Jude the Obscure reference. He was actually named for the Beatles song.
I have met a few women with the name and heard a few parents calling their children this (I may be tuned into hearing the name).

funnyonionn · 27/01/2025 13:37

Three. Two boys and one girl.

Chariots77 · 27/01/2025 13:39

Known a guy jude since we were kids. He's mid-forties. He's a really nice guy and subsequently I've always loved the name

Bornnotbourne · 27/01/2025 13:45

My sons friend is called Jude and he’s so cute so only positive associations for me.

Fontainebleau007 · 27/01/2025 13:47

Never known one
