How many Jude’s do you know?

I’m thinking of calling my second DS Jude but I am worried about its popularity. I’ve personally never met a male baby or adult Jude but have seen about 5 influencers on Instagram naming their child this! It does put me off but would it be silly to not use it for this reason even though I love it? I had the same issue with the name Ezra with ds1 and in the end didn’t go with it because it suddenly got very popular when I thought I was being unique! I really don’t want a ‘trendy’ name for my child that will date badly. Is Jude one of those names??

Someone I know called her child this. It's not unusual around here, but unfortunately I really dislike it. I think it sounds ugly and reminds me of Jude the Obscure ( who killed himself) Jude ( German for Jew) was scrawled on shopfronts by Nazis. It also feels like an abbreviation for a longer name ( like the female version.)

One of DS’s friendship group, 13, and a former neighbour in the last place we lived, who is probably early 20s now, and a hippy surfer type with impressive blonde locks.

WhatTheKey · 27/01/2025 10:12

Never met one. Absolutely lovely name imo, but forever entwined with the tragic Jude the Obscure for me.

Dandylione · 27/01/2025 10:12

I know an adult Jude (woman in her 60s) and two little boys, one is 4 and one is 10. I like the name a lot.

Luminousalumnus · 27/01/2025 10:13

No Judes but one Judah, not shortened.

cheesegromit13 · 27/01/2025 10:13

3 boys, primary school age.

BangingOn · 27/01/2025 10:16

Two in my son’s school, one in reception and one year 6.

CornishTeaTime · 27/01/2025 10:17

1 female called Jude

MaggieBsBoat · 27/01/2025 10:20

2! One of whom is mine and he’s adorable. ☺️

rubiconartist · 27/01/2025 10:21

Two babies and a toddler.

GlasgowGal82 · 27/01/2025 10:25

I know one. He's 16 and a great kid. Haven't come across any other Judes in the years since he was born. I'm past the baby stage though so it might be more popular with new parents. Worth checking the stats on given names. National Records of Scotland publish them annually up here, but there is an English equivalent.

Gymmum82 · 27/01/2025 10:26

I know 2. It’s not super popular but not uncommon either

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 27/01/2025 10:26

I know one woman with it as her middle name. Can't think of any others I know

LooseGooseMoose · 27/01/2025 10:26

I don't know any

bluebellinthewood · 27/01/2025 10:28

My son is called Jude, he's 6 and he's the only one in the school. I personally loved the name and didn't call my firstborn Jude (as I wanted too) so definately had the name for my 2nd son. Love the name.

Evenstar · 27/01/2025 10:28

Only one and he is just over a year old. I never came across any others when I worked in early years and my children are between 21 and 34 and I never knew any in their schools or friendship groups.

Starryknightcloud · 27/01/2025 10:29

4 personally, all pre school age.
2 more at my DDs nursery.
Umpteen more at groups and classes we go to.

It's this decades Jack and will definitely make top 10 in the 2024 or 2025 data I reckon.

Ita popular because it's a nice name.

Firsttimebabymummy · 27/01/2025 10:29

None. And i work in a nursery.

HailtotheBop · 27/01/2025 10:29

I know just one Jude. He's 19 and the name suits him perfectly.

ayvasili · 27/01/2025 10:30

One. He's a teenager

TokyoSushi · 27/01/2025 10:31

Quite a lot around here, mostly primary age, it's a lovely name!

TubeScreamer · 27/01/2025 10:45

1 adult (50s).

Ineedanewsofa · 27/01/2025 10:50

2, both in DC’s class (yr 5). There are two others in the primary school, so only 4 out of about 500 kids.
Also, DH’s aunt Judy, she’s awesome 😊

Sparxdislike · 27/01/2025 10:52

I know two
