Long name for Cuddy

We're expecting our second baby and I am really keen on Cuddy as a name, which is usually a nickname for Cuthbert. We live in Northumberland so it has connection to St Cuthbert. But my husband isn't keen on Cuthbert, but only likes Cuddy if it's a nickname for something else. Any suggestions for what the birth name could be if we shorten to Cuddy?

I'm not sure what it would be sort for but if I heard the name cuddy I'd automatically think of a horse.
I'm in Scotland though so not sure if it would be the same in England

Remagirl · 27/01/2024 17:35

Surely a wind up? Cuddy is also a Northumbrian word for a horse or pony.

JessicasLavalier · 27/01/2024 18:37

Cuddy is a horrible sounding name. Please don't do that to a child.

It's will be bullied at school and called Cruddy.

bigfatcarrotcruncher · 27/01/2024 20:56

What's with parents wanting to saddle their poor offspring with ridiculous names that will be a lifelong piss taking magnet?
What's wrong with Daniel or James, or even Henry or Charles?
Plenty of nice boys and girls names around!

This! Cuddly is horrendous and cuthbert reminds me of cuthbert cringeworthy from the Beano!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/01/2024 21:11

Cuddy-see! Even autocorrect doesn't like it 🤣

SueBranchers · 27/01/2024 21:13

No offence lol, but is your baby a sheep? Shep chew cud so you may want to rethink… Any child called Cuddy would most likely be teased (at least), more likely viciously bullied.

I love reading the baby names but don’t post very often. Cuddy is a truly dreadful name. One of the worst I’ve seen suggested. It sounds, dirty, somehow, just not nice at all. Had you already had your child and named him, I would not dream of saying this. I’m not a nasty person at all. But given he is yet to be named, then I’d suggest thinking of something else. Almost anything would be better.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/01/2024 22:01

I’m going to call joke on this one. You just can’t be serious op. A cuddy is a horse for one thing, and a terrible ‘name’ for another. Don’t do this to your child!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/01/2024 22:04

Trying to be constructive given you like Cuddy, what about:

Austin
Wyatt
Kit
Chris
Luke
Cruz.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/01/2024 22:06

Christopher? My DFs name. An underused classic.

My Scottish grandpa had a beautiful rose garden. He said it was all down to the rag man’s cuddy. He’d be straight out onto the road with a bucket and shovel to scoop up the horse shit before his neighbour got there first. It’s great fertiliser 💩
