Please tell my sister this is a horrible idea

So, my sister told us last night her names ideas, and she was asking which we prefer. They decided that her husband and her would mix their names to create a new name.

So if it is a girl

Jamifer or Jeniams

A boy :

Jems
Jamer

We all told us it was horrible. But she insist on saying "stranger will find that cute". What do you think

Oh my.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/09/2022 12:46

Tell your sister she shouldn’t drink when pregnant

mynameiscalypso · 17/09/2022 12:47

Jamifer has made me proper laugh out loud. But no. Just no.

pennysays · 17/09/2022 12:48

Absolutely no good comes from intervening on other people’s baby name choices. Stay out of it!

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 17/09/2022 12:48

Names like this will stigmatize the child when they're older, just imagine when they're applying for a job or a degree. If she can't see it, there's a reason there are no barristers with names spelled Linzee or Kayty or Jaymez. These are the names of people I knew as a child. Names like that aren't cute. They just imply you had really thick parents who can't spell (regardless of the truth of the matter that's how strangers will see it and make further interpretations on you accordingly).
Your sister needs to stop getting advice off the wrong people.

But she insist on saying "stranger will find that cute"
Confused

Hoppinggreen · 17/09/2022 12:49

really really awful idea

Shmithecat2 · 17/09/2022 12:49

If she thinks those names are great, I feel that she will probably also need to be told that massive hairbands on bald baby girls's heads and fur trims round the hoods of prams are dreadful too.

DaisyChristina · 17/09/2022 12:50

People used to do this to give their house a name, not fair doing it to a child.

MojoJojo71 · 17/09/2022 12:51

Oh dear. No, just no

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/09/2022 12:52

Actual lol moment. I hope she’s joking….

People used to do this to give their house a name, not fair doing it to a child.

My grandparents did this with their house many many years ago and made up a word using bits of their and their children's first names. They died 15 years ago and the house has changed hands twice and it's still called the same thing which is so weird.

Lullabies2Paralyze · 17/09/2022 12:54

Jamifer…..people will just call her jennifer regardless that it’s not her name

the boys name sound fairly normal like they might be short nicknames for a proper longer name. But still not names I would pick or hope any of my friends or family would pick.

"Does your name affect your chances in life" BBC News article on this topic which might help: www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26634477

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/09/2022 12:54

Horrific.

It doesn't matter if strangers will find it 'cute' they won't, even if they outwardly make the 'right' murmurs - it matters about how she will go through her own life.

How do so many parents not grasp that they are naming a person who is currently a baby, but who will hopefully live for 80 or more years, the vast majority of them not as a baby?

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 17/09/2022 12:54

Tell her to get a Tamagotchi and give it all the ridiculous names she likes, but to grow up when it comes to her real baby.

RedToothBrush · 17/09/2022 12:54

Your sister is on a wind up and you have be asking her about names too much...

EndTheMonacyNow · 17/09/2022 12:55

It's too silly to be true. Your sister is having a laugh at your expense

Wouldntrecommend · 17/09/2022 12:55

Uhoho for the children of

Penelope and Isaac

Wanda and Kerry

Mo and Ford

Arenanewbie · 17/09/2022 12:55

I would seriously think that she mispronounced them after introduction. Or that it’s a horse name, for some reason they all sound a bit like horses’ names to me.

Twinstudy · 17/09/2022 12:55

Ha ha just makes me think of casa bevron from brookside back in the day. At least they only inflicted that on a house 😁

AlwaysMunching · 17/09/2022 12:55

She's just fed up of folk asking her about names so she's winding you up

donttellmehesalive · 17/09/2022 12:56

Jamifer! Oh please do it. I hope it's normalised and a jamifer appears on my register soon!

caitlinrose · 17/09/2022 12:56

It's her decision in the end and there is not much you can do. I have seen worse, to be honest.

Maybe suggest combining them in a nicer way.

They are James and Jennifer I would guess so:

Janis
Janice
Jemima
Janina
Jeannine, Janine
Jamesina
Gemma
Jenna
Jennica

Jannis (this is pronounced yuhn-nis, other spellings could be Yannis, it's a legit name and used in many cultures)

These may not be perfect combinations but they sound enough like both names.

France98 · 17/09/2022 12:57

She's at the wind up
