Perspicacious for a boy

SaskiaRembrandt · 20/08/2022 23:18

I know the practice of giving babies' grace names has fallen out favour, but I've always loved it. Bearing that in mind, I'd love to hear your opinions of Perspicacious for a boy. It means ''having a ready insight into and understanding of things' which are qualities I'd like my child to have. Saying that, I'd appreciate feedback.

What if he's not the sharpest tool in the box?

Bucket as a middle name?

Yes I nice normal name to offset Perspicacious

CPL593H · 20/08/2022 23:50

@SaskiaRembrandt you are naughty😂

(Still think the Cromwellian "Praise- God Barebones" was the ultimate. If Mumsnet had existed then, better choices would have been made. Before they burned us, possibly)

None at all. I'm heavily pregnant. You may drink gin while gestating, but I can assure I do not!

Why would a sober person think this is funny? Hmm

PuttingDownRoots · 20/08/2022 23:51

Preschool/reception. Learning to write your name... maybe Perseverance will be a good middle name, as they will definitely need that quality.

BadNomad · 20/08/2022 23:53

I had that once. Needed two courses of antibiotics to get rid of it.

Tiredalwaystired · 20/08/2022 23:53

Go for it!

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 20/08/2022 23:53

I like it!

I don't like it!

(But the Bucket suggestion made me laugh)

CPL593H · 20/08/2022 23:53

Some of my 19C family were Admiral, Sergeant-Major and General. As first names, they were down mines at 10, poor little toads and never reached their grandiose monikers potential.

Suddenly Perspicacious sounds better.

LittleBearPad · 20/08/2022 23:55

Think what a wonderful opportunity it will give for splendid penmanship when he’s learning to write. Go for it!

ThereIsOnlyDocMcStuffins · 20/08/2022 23:56

I like it! But what will the middle name be?

Molly887 · 20/08/2022 23:57

I”d probably go for Pers PK Shus. Pers for short.

That is an awesome name!

They might not have burnt us, Katherine Chidley got away with throwing all kinds of shade at men.

But back to Perspicacious. As you can see I'm something of an early modern nerd, so I think it's the perfect name. Is it really so bad in 2022?

Of course this has to be pronounced 'bouquet'

Yes, it is really really bad. You're setting up your child for a lifetime of misery - until they change their name once they're legally able to...

BadNomad · 20/08/2022 23:59

Yes. It is a terrible name for a human. Keep it for a cat.

BeggarsMeddle · 21/08/2022 00:01

BeggarsMeddle · 20/08/2022 23:46

I think it's 'Perspicacity' that you want!

But then Perspicacious sounds more masculine.

Why would a sober person think anything is funny? Is this a philosophical question? I do hope not, I find philosophy very tedious.

If your child is stupid his name will be a real shame...

MatildaJayne · 21/08/2022 00:03

It’s wonderful. Would suit a boy, girl or non-binary person. It’s perspicacious in every case. badum tish

Yes! Imagine how wonderful Perspicacious will look once he finally masters cursive.

Why don't you change your own name to something like this and give your poor child a completely normal name?

I always think that when I read these silly name threads!

JuneOsborne · 21/08/2022 00:09

Think of the teachers.

Day one
Perspec, perspecta, pers {trails off}

Day thirty three
Everyone write their name on their painting. Well, not you, perspex, you just write PJ.

And poor Prospective Perspective is forever more know as Jamas. (For the posh folks, PJ's goes to pyjamas goes to jamas, pronounced jar mers).

Therefore I suggest James. Or Mers.

CPL593H · 21/08/2022 00:11

I've just discovered that "Praise God" possibly had "Unless-Jesus-Christ-Had-Died-For-Thee-Thou-Hadst-Been-Damned" as part of his name.

How do you feel about "Perspicacious Unless-Jesus-Christ-Had-Died-For-Thee-Thou-Hadst-Been-Damned" (surname) ? Does it go with your other children's names? It is, I believe, unique.

Otherwise, Tom is nice. Or Balonz.

DahliaMacNamara · 20/08/2022 23:38

Oh, don't be ridiculous. Perspicacious indeed. You want the noun, not the adjective. The name you're looking for is Perspicacity.

Brilliant (and correct!)
