Perspicacious for a boy

I know the practice of giving babies' grace names has fallen out favour, but I've always loved it. Bearing that in mind, I'd love to hear your opinions of Perspicacious for a boy. It means ''having a ready insight into and understanding of things' which are qualities I'd like my child to have. Saying that, I'd appreciate feedback.

He will most likely be the only Perspicacious in his class at school if that’s important to you.

Or maybe even born in the country that year IDK.

@SaskiaRembrandt PP's have given some good ideas for less torturous names after qualities. How about Valiant, as in The Legend of Prince Valiant? Dating myself there :)

WhimsicalGubbins · 21/08/2022 00:26

You want an honest answer?

Ok. I think a name like Perspicacious qualifies as child abuse-and it also qualifies the parent to earn the title ‘pretentious pillock’

Children do NOT develop into the meaning of their names. This isn’t 1482 and we don’t still believe in magic and fairy dust

Ah @WhimsicalGubbins I am of the opinion that @SaskiaRembrandt was in need of a laugh, and if so, she certainly got one 😊

However, my first DS certainly did develop into his name (named after a Saint), and I do still believe in Magic and Fairy Dust.

Science only covers the things so far discovered and/or proved. I love your name, but I wish for your sake that you could live up to it 🧚‍♀️

Pterodactyl is nicer

Excellent!

99redballoonsgobyy · 21/08/2022 00:50

yes I agree this is definitely a joke I hate these stupid taking the piss threads. I can't even read the name so no ides how it is pronounced. I'd just go for percy.

StormzyinaTCup · 21/08/2022 00:51

Just no.
You will be making your son stand out amongst his peers from the get go and he will likely spend part/all of his educational years being embarrassed and/or bullied. You may have a son who is very confident and can withstand whatever comes his way off the back of it, however, if your son is shy/an introvert then that's going to be truly awful for him. You may like the name a lot but, for your son's sake, you need to put your sensible head on OP.

Grumpusaurus · 21/08/2022 00:52

What about the perennial MN favourite Balloonz...?

BillLius · 21/08/2022 00:52

Balonz

StormzyinaTCup · 21/08/2022 00:52

I actually think this must be a wind up.

LittleGreenMartian · 21/08/2022 00:55

Makes me think of perspiration.

It's too similar to Perspiration. He'll get called Stinky.
That aside, it's still a dreadful idea.

MarmadukeSpillageEsquire · 21/08/2022 00:57

He can be mates with my little lad, Richasfuck

Hey! I am whimsical

My mood can change in the blink of an eye. Lol!

DivorcedAndDelighted · 21/08/2022 00:59

No, no, a thousand times no. Many (most) people won't know how it is pronounced, what it means, or how it is spelled. They will avoid using his name.

SaskiaRembrandt · 20/08/2022 23:29

Grace names are most definitely a thing. Would you sneer at Patience, or Hope?

Patience and Hope are accepted names. Perspic-whatever isn't.

User2145738790 · 20/08/2022 23:50

Why would a sober person think this is funny? Hmm

@User2145738790 I am sober, I am grumpy, I am not well, and I think it is very funny. It is the way you tell them, and
@SaskiaRembrandt has told this brilliantly.

She has the deliverance and timing of a very successful stand-up comic. It is a pity that you cannot see this. Some of the replys to her have been little gems, but yours is also funny - in it's unfunniness 😉

Perspicacious Jeremiah Foxtrot-Smythe

It's perfect OP.

When's the christening?

Have you got his place at Eton sorted already? I would you know, the waiting list is terrible I've heard.

Needs more middle names.

CactusBlossom · 21/08/2022 01:04

I knew someone with Muireartaigh as his first name. He was dyslexic. That's something you need to think about. You don't want a child to have to write an essay for his name.

Touchmybum · 21/08/2022 01:07

You can't possibly be for real???!

Just choose a normal name for the poor little bugger!!!

BerryBerryBerryBerry · 21/08/2022 01:11

CrapBag39 · 20/08/2022 23:24

Pterodactyl is nicer

Brilliant 😀

onlythreenow · 21/08/2022 01:14

Sorry, no. I generally don't care what people want to call their DC, but that is just too much - especially with a four syllable surname. The poor child will be forever spelling it and explaining why he is called that.

KosherDill · 21/08/2022 01:17

EmergencyHepNeeded · 20/08/2022 23:21

Why don't you change your own name to something like this and give your poor child a completely normal name?

Haha, good point!

FFS life is hard enough without being saddled with that claptrap. How about Michael or David or Robert?

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 21/08/2022 01:18

DahliaMacNamara · 20/08/2022 23:38

Oh, don't be ridiculous. Perspicacious indeed. You want the noun, not the adjective. The name you're looking for is Perspicacity.

Oh well spotted. Using the OP's logic the grace names she cited in support of this would be Patient , Graceful and Hopefully or Full of Hope.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 21/08/2022 01:19

CandyLeBonBon · 20/08/2022 23:39

I think Audacious has a certain ring to it. Audie for short?

You're making the same mistake as the OP. It would be Audacity.

Deadringer · 21/08/2022 01:21

Why not just call him 'Having a ready insight into and understanding of things', it's easier to spell.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 21/08/2022 01:24

Deadringer · 21/08/2022 01:21

That made me laugh out loud.

The OP must however surely be on a wind up?
