Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

@TonyChestnut 🤣🤣🤣🤣

fancyfrogs · 11/03/2022 11:39

I like ember. Apricot has to be a definite no!

DameHelena · 11/03/2022 11:40

I like Story and Ember, but think only Ember even vaguely goes with Jean.

I like Ember the most. Cherry is quite nice too and Bronte.

Blimey, are you not going to like your child!😮

Aw that's not nice 😭
Sorry, it was meant to be light hearted to those names which are a bit " out there"

worriedmum2022 · 11/03/2022 11:41

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I now want a short animated film about this. Venus is the raddled, experienced older mother hen (puppy) stripper, Apricot is the naive youngster just starting out, angst-ridden nerd stripper puppy Story secretly yearns to go to university, and Ember is the one with the big throaty bark who saves the club by turning it into a cabaret that takes in waifs and strays.

I can see it being produced by Netflix. A bit like Glow, but with puppies and in a strip club.

Sort of like an adults paw patrol movie!!!
badg3r · 11/03/2022 11:41

Whatever you pick, if it is a bit out there then practise introducing your kid before she is born. I met a mum once who named her daughter autumn. I like the name actually but she was obviously so uncomfortable with the name when she introduced her then three year old to me. She said something like "that's my daughter autumn but she wasn't born in autumn she was born in March, we just liked the name..." I felt really sorry for her.

And there’s the elevator pitch! Grin

@Spaghetti0h

Please think about the implications this may have on your daughter calling her something stupid - especially after a razor or a piece of fruit

Some countries physically don't allow people to register ridiculous names they should make it law here!!

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 11/03/2022 11:44

Seren is actually a Welsh name, Steren is our equivalent down in Cornwall. Lowena is one of my all time favourite names.

gingerhills · 11/03/2022 11:46

I hate Story. I beg you not to call her that.
Apricot is OK. I don't like it personally but there's a growing trend of fruit names for little girls - Peaches, Clementine, Apple etc.
Venus? K...
Ember sounds nice but it's a burnt out coal. So, why?

Dumbledoressister · 11/03/2022 11:46

@Spaghetti0h

Of course I don't want my child to get bullied ... I've never known anyone with these names so hadn't thought of it that way. Thank you to the people who've been nice x
With the best will in the world, you don't know anyone with these names because (apart from Venus) they're not names, they're things.
Hangthetowels · 11/03/2022 11:47

...is there a second list 🙈 honestly I wouldn't name a child any of those... They will live with this forever, who cares about the top 20!

France doesn't, and yet I had a French friend called Framboise. Not sure how her parents got that one past the law.

Smidgy · 11/03/2022 11:48

I can just about get on board with Ember but the others are just odd.

Just so you know, OP, there is something in between the top 20 names and the bizarre concoction of names you're thinking of 🤣

20viona · 11/03/2022 11:48

I love ember, hate the others.

Notanotherwindow · 11/03/2022 11:49

Do you WANT your child to be bullied. Ffs OP she will one day have to apply for a job with this name. Any CV coming across my desk with a name like that would be immediately assumed to be a prank and binned.

Peaches is a god awful name too. Celebrities pick some appalling names for their poor children. Give the poor child a proper name, not a random word that you just happen to think is a nice word.

The least ridiculous of them is Ember but that isn't saying much considering the competition.

And just remember that the term 'venereal diseases' were named after, well, Venus. Lots of scope there for ridicule.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 11:54

@NoFitStateMum

'SpiderinaWingMirror

There is an entire raft names thar fall between "not in the top 20" and those.
I think you need to apply some thought into what your child will feel about their name.
Incidentally, do you have a name that is fairly common?

My name is not common in the UK x'

Spaghetti0h your name may not be common in the UK but is it common elsewhere in the world? That's a big difference IMO. Giving names with cultural significance which may be common or relatively common in other countries is quite different. Of your list I would argue none are common anywhere.

They're v try-hard OP. I think you can find something that isn't 'common' or quite so 'out there'. But I think you want to give a v uncommon name regardless of what it is, i.e. a name or just a random noun.

My name isn't common in Korea but it has a nature meaning. I really like cute names. Maybe I should just call my daughter a Korean name & keep one of these for a nickname?

Cherry Jean is perfect. You can stop randomly opening the dictionary now.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 11:56

@jb7445

I really don't like Venus - it doesn't sound nice to me and is a lot to live up to as a goddess!

Apricot is actually growing on me. I have a friend called Clementine which seems similar. I'm not sure how you could get a workable/nice nickname from it though...

Ember is ok. I don't like Amber either so just not my taste.

Story is lovely! I've never heard it as a name but it's really pretty.

I see you've added Cherry - I really don't like this personally, it sounds kind of dated (like Cherie) and also a bit strippery (to use some other posters' words!).

Choose Story!

Thank you for being the only person who saw what I like about Apricot! X

godmum56 · 11/03/2022 11:56

could you give you "unusual" choice as a middle name and have something more mainstream for a first name? and please NOT Story.....actually not any of them.

Sexnotgender · 11/03/2022 11:57

Venus
Ember
No
