Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?

Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?

Meadow is a cows name. Cherry sounds like a stripper.

Story will get changed by deed poll the second she turns 16 after a lifetime of bullying and having the piss taken. Come on Story, time for storytime! No. Just...no.

Whatever you pick, if it is a bit out there then practise introducing your kid before she is born. I met a mum once who named her daughter autumn. I like the name actually but she was obviously so uncomfortable with the name when she introduced her then three year old to me. She said something like "that's my daughter autumn but she wasn't born in autumn she was born in March, we just liked the name..." I felt really sorry for her.

I don't actually agree with the bullying concerns. I've spent a lot of years working in schools and have known lots of children with very unusual names have zero issue and also many children with perfectly ordinary names have those used as a source of bullying. I've known an Eleanor get called "smelly Ellie" for example, and a Matt be bullied because matt colours are more boring than shiny colours apparently! Obviously their names didn't attract the bullying, the bullies were just using anything they could think of. I've also known an Axel, an Elvis, and an Atlas who all sailed through school being super popular. Once a bully has selected a target they will definitely use the victims name to hurt them, but in my experience it's rarely the name that attracts the bullying in the first place.

I know an Ember and as far as I know it's not been an issue.

Ok I loved Story because in the past I knew the most amazing Nigerian girl called Story ... I'm in a big multicultural city in the UK, no my daughter won't attend private school, but are all my choices really so out there to most young people my age?

I have an unusual first name, I was teased for that (and something else too).

Cherry does sound nice but maybe have another middle name and then Jean.

Apricot is awful. Peaches is awful too. I can't think of any fruit which would make a suitable name.

I used to live in a large multi cultural city and believe me I did meet kids who had been bullied because they had unusual names. And an Elvis who was quite frankly the most appalling person I have ever met with the proverbial chip on his shoulder. Clearly I don't know how much of that was the name but from the way he announced it (sort of 'go on just say it) I don't think it added to his attraction.
And then there were the ones who took a perfectly normal name and spelt it in a unique way. But that is another story!

Ember is the only one remotely okay to name a child.
They aren't puppies! They have to grow up to be functioning members of society and you are not giving them much hope by starting with a stupid name!

I think fruit and unusual names are all very well if you're the child of a celebrity but for most children - even David Bowie's Zowie - they tend to get changed as adults.

I do know a child who was named Willow or something like that but her parents were new age hippies and in forestry. Her friends of similar ages were called Emma, etc.

I think Ember is the best from your list but I can’t help imagining someone from New Zealand saying Amber and it sounding like Ember, maybe that’s just me! The other names aren’t great. I agree that when choosing a name don’t think of it as naming a baby but how that name will be throughout their life. I have a 13 year old DD and can only imagine in the throes of teenage hormones how excruciating it would be to be called Apricot! I think Cherry that has been suggested is quite nice if you were going to go down the fruit route.

Other than Amber the rest are ridiculous sorry - I'm actually cringing for you that you are even considering the other names. I'd be highly embarrassed as a child of my mother called me any other those. You are naming a child Not a stripper or a pet

My dad is Korean, my daughter is going to be a quarter Korean. Thanks I'm definitely thinking about Cherry. I wanted Jean to be after my nana (mums mum) x

@Spaghetti0h - just because you like Venus Williams doesn't mean to say you have to name your child after her.

If you're Nigerian then yes call your child Story. If you're you (Korean?) it might go down well at school but she might get teased for it.

Trust me I know...

There's a child near where I live called India, and that's lovely - but her DM has Indian heritage. Her sister is called a normal but slightly unusual name from e.g. 1920s/30s.

As someone who grew up with an unusual (foreign) name (not by today’s standards but definitely in the 80s) I would counsel you to think not just about what you like/your desire to be different but what it will be like for your child. Most of these names are not really to my taste - which is fine, but I would say you really can’t call your child Apricot.
