Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

@BellatrixOnABadDay

Not only have I got Bananarama in my head but now daydream believer. Cheer up sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean....
Same! Grin But tbf the OP is probably far too young to get those 'oldie' references!
maddy68 · 11/03/2022 16:29

Honestly the only one I would even partly consider is ember the rest will sound so hideous when she is an adult

maddy68 · 11/03/2022 16:30

Cherry is actually a name at least and it's quite nice.

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/03/2022 16:36

@GalactatingGoddess - I am not closed minded. I am mindful of the consequences for the child of having a name with potentially unwanted connotations and which could leave them open to lifelong ridicule.

huns2getha4eva · 11/03/2022 16:40

@RobertaFirmino

How about C'Aujette if you want something different? Then there's Brockley, Cayle, Spinnashe and Karatte. If you want Jean as a middle name, what about Oberre?
Brockley 😍

I wish I had of thought of that.

whatajuckingfoke · 11/03/2022 16:58

Brockley? Forever to be known as broccoli!

GlitteryGreen · 11/03/2022 16:59

I agree! I have read a book where the main character's name was Cherry. I think it's sweet.
MbwaKali · 11/03/2022 17:01

It’s a no from me. They’re all awful, sorry.

huns2getha4eva · 11/03/2022 17:09

@whatajuckingfoke

Brockley? Forever to be known as broccoli!
🤣 oh yea, brocolli, i hate brocolli lol!!!
MyBottleOfRibena · 11/03/2022 17:11

Go around for a week or so and introduce yourself as Apricot, and see how many times you have to explain it or confirm that yes, you did say Apricot. That is what your daughter will have to put up with forever

viques · 11/03/2022 17:23

Brockley is full of irony you know.
whenwillthemadnessend · 11/03/2022 17:24

Just have Jean

They test are ridiculous

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 17:25

@viques

I know a friend with a baby called 'Little Gem.'

A nickname? It's a nickname. PLEASE say it's a nickname. Shock NO-ONE would call their child LITTLE GEM! FFS. Hmm

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 17:26

I am PMSL at how SO many people have not 'got' the post by @RobertaFirmino 🤣

How about C'Aujette if you want something different? Then there's Brockley, Cayle, Spinnashe and Karatte. If you want Jean as a middle name, what about Oberre?.

Like 'hmmm, not sure about that' and 'sounds nice.' and 'oh Brockley is nice but what if it gets mixed up with Broccoli!

And 'oooh I like those names, but what about spelling it Brockleigh?' 'And Kail is a good spelling, more feminine....' Grin

whatajuckingfoke · 11/03/2022 17:32

It's me that didn't get the Brockley thing. I'm autistic so I tend to take things rather literally, or get jokes until they're pointed/spelled out to me!

But I am laughing now. Very good! Grin

RaininSummer · 11/03/2022 17:37

All seem odd to me. Least irritating is Ember but not sure being named after the dwindling bits of a fire is especially nice or meaningful.

@murmuratingstarling.

Little Gem was in response to the original Brockley post. As were the other names. Grin

And Brockleigh as an alternative spelling was in there too.

Sorry, we really need an irony button on this board. Should be easy to do if anyone from MN is about.

Moyny · 11/03/2022 17:51

I didn't have lunch today and my blood sugar must have gone a bit weird, because I thought there was something mildly adorable about a baby called after a lettuce variety. Blush

It could go about in little green frilly bonnets, and as soon as it was able to toddle solo, it would be toddling down to the register office asking whether toddlers can do deed poll name changes.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 11/03/2022 18:07

Brockley is quite nice for a puppy.

I seem to have puppies on my mind today

RampantIvy · 11/03/2022 18:24

Brockley is on the London Bridge Line between Honor Oak Park and New Cross Gate. It was on my commute many years ago.

Sorry, but to me it is an area in South London.

peaceinourtime · 11/03/2022 19:36

I don't get the attraction for the name Ember, I have heard of people called it a few times. An ember is an escaped fire run. Why would any one what to be called that?

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 19:56

Sorry @viques I didn't get it. Little gem lettuce. The irony of me saying LOL at people not getting someone else's post! Grin How embarassing. Blush Grin

Flowers Wasn't just you! After me taking the mick, I missed one too. Serves me right! Grin

Nanny0gg · 11/03/2022 19:56

@RavenclawsRoar

I like Ember (I know a baby Ember!) and Venus. Also like Cherry and Sage if you are still considering those. I agree with the pp who said bullies bully regardless of names. I've been a teacher for over 10 years and I've never known anyone be bullied for their name. I get kind of goddess-y vibes from the names you like, so will suggest Celeste, Thalia and Athena.
Really?

I've known loads of kids who have the piss taken out of them for their names, from my schooldays to the present.

Any excuse.

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 19:58

Yeah @Nanny0gg I can't believe that in ten years of teaching, not ONE SINGLE CHILD has taken the piss out of another's name.

Tdcp · 11/03/2022 20:04

@Spaghetti0h

I saw the other thread op, are you ok? That was quite nasty from start to finish on the whole.

On another note, I like Story! I also love Cherry, I almost called my dd Cherry.(I am actually twice your age as well 😉). A girl I used to look after had a middle name of Jean after her nan and she was always called "first name Jean", she's 24 now and she still insists on it, it's lovely.

Go with what makes you happy, if everyone only ever had the usual normal names, everyone would still be called Elizabeth or Anne, I say this as someone with a very unusual name and shockingly it was the one thing I wasn't actually bullied for !
