Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

@Susu49

Ember is very pretty. I'm not keen on Venus or Apricot but...Gwyneth went for Apple and its not that odd anymore. Cherry is nice and won't raise eyebrows.

Ember is my favourite

Apple is still a very odd name.
Lambkin689 · 11/03/2022 14:37

Those aren't names.

IheartJKRowling · 11/03/2022 14:37

Honestly you sound like you're eight years old and you are choosing a name for your new dolly. My daughter is only a few years old than you and I have just told her your options, like many others she said Ember isn't bad but the others are all "pretentious wank", I agree.

Turquoisesea · 11/03/2022 14:37

My friend has a DD called Tansy which is a type of flower if you are looking for something less popular.
@Spaghetti0h

I am betting all you nasties are double my age or more? ☠😑

What - in this hugely ageist comment - is the skull and crossbones for?

And as a pp said, how old are YOU? (I am guessing 15 or 16, so yep, most of us will be double your age or more...)
Well you're either old enough to know better or you're not.

TatianaBis · 11/03/2022 14:38

@antisocialsocialclub

Newsflash OP. Sometimes people don’t disagree with you because they are old or nasty but because your ideas are bad and it’s kinder to tell you. Especially when you’ve asked for opinions, anonymous opinions are generally more truthful.

I don't see bad ideas, Apricot is the only name everyone dislikes. I do see a lot of middle aged women being twats though.

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 14:38

I don't think you're an idiot @Spaghetti0h but those names are not great for a baby. As many people have said, people really need to think it through before they give their baby an 'unusual' name.

Sorry you have had a hard time on here, and sorry for my piss-taking too. I thought this was a wind up tbh... Nice of you to say sorry for your ageist comment, (I missed that sorry!) and as you are 19, yep most of us probably ARE double your age or more.

Best of luck with whatever you decide. Flowers

QuirkyStick · 11/03/2022 14:40

@Spaghetti0h the trick to make sure that a name is a good fir for your child is the life stages and jobs trick. So don't just think of a baby with the name, think of a pimply teenager, or a fat middle-aged lady with that name, or a little elderly lady.

For example, if a family name their son "buddy bear" then that's going to be really cute on a newborn, but then it really won't suit a pimply teenager or a fat middle-aged man.

Also, the jobs trick of, could you envisage someone working as a highbrow job (i.e; a barrister) or in a service job (i.e: at a chip shop) with that name?

So for example, if you call your child Princess, then that might limit their ability to be taken seriously enough to do highbrow jobs, but if you give your child a long and grand name without thinking of a shortening, then similarly they may get frustrated when people at their Saturday job laugh at them or never get their name right.

There are so many decisions to make with children. For a lot of them it doesn't matter what anyone but you thinks (thank god Brew ) . With names, your child will bear that name for (probably) the rest of their life, and people will make assumptions about all sorts of things like their socioeconomic class, how you've raised them ..etc from the moment they learn your child's name, so it's good to mull those things over.

Says who?

Anystarinthesky · 11/03/2022 14:41

I love Bronte which you said you liked earlier.

whatajuckingfoke · 11/03/2022 14:41

I didn't call you an idiot but I did agree that you shouldn't be one. That's pretty mild by Mumsnet standards of bluntness, along the lines of 'give your head a wobble!'. I'm sorry if it upset you though.

I was about to reply that I highly doubt that I'm double your age because I'm 'only' 37... but then I saw that you're 19 so I pretty much am give or take a couple of months Grin

Still, I have to saw those names are pretty dreadful and I think you should go back to the drawing board. You can have names that aren't super common without them leaning towards the comical and/or ridiculous. Have you looked at the top 100 both for here and the USA? If you don't want common then discount the top 30 and look at the rest!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 11/03/2022 14:41

I know a Willow and think that's a lovely nature name I also know a Honey which is unusual but very pretty/

Nanny0gg · 11/03/2022 14:43
@antisocialsocialclub I was responding to the person who called me an idiot & I over reacted. I've already apologised.
I don't think calling me an idiot was constructive of them though.
It was rude.

But bear in mind your child won't be a baby long, they'll have to go through school and then enter the workplace with whatever you choose.

And I don't understand why you want something so different (ie not really a person's name) for the first one and then follow it with something as old-fashioned and prosaic as Jean!

notacooldad · 11/03/2022 14:43

Unusual naturey
Juniper
Willow
Amber
Wren
Aspen
Coral
clemintine
With the exception of juniper those names are not unusual.
I work in family support for social services and have come across those names dozens of times.

Thoosa · 11/03/2022 14:44

Erm second thoughts, OP is way too immature to cope with dissenting opinions.

walkingbaby · 11/03/2022 14:45

@Lambkin689

Those aren't names.
Literally😂😂
Im2022 · 11/03/2022 14:45

If you want to go for the “Peaches” vibe, surely you must want “Apricots” then, not just one Apricot?

But anyway, don’t do this. Rich idiots like rockstars and actors usually name their children these idiotic names (think Peaches, Apple, North etc). Unless you’re rich and mix with these types of people?

walkingbaby · 11/03/2022 14:46

Ember is the only half decent name here and even that one is a bit :/

Gonnagetgoing · 11/03/2022 14:47

Aera, Ara, Areum, Hana, Hea, Jae, Mishil, seung, are some Korean names I like.

Amber is DB’s goddaughter name, she’s 14.

Friends named their DD Vita, cecelia recently.

BinBandit · 11/03/2022 14:48

I like Jean. Call her Jean. That's not top 20, use one of the other abominations as a middle name if you must.

TheUsualShitshow · 11/03/2022 14:48

@ValkyrieVik

Aw, OP is only 19 - stop being mean you vipers!

OP - call the baby what you like - I did laugh at Apricot Jean but I'm really old - 40 - and definitely don't know what names are trendy any more! However I would always say try to imagine the name on a 20, 30, 40 yo. Can you imagine a 40 yo secretary called Apricot Jean? Or Story Jean?

A 40 year old secretary Confused

Wow, aim high why doncha Grin

Catra · 11/03/2022 14:49

Apricot is also a brand of women's clothing. Can you see where I'm going with this?

Subbaxeo · 11/03/2022 14:50

Interesting how Zowie is now called Duncan.

blitzkoff · 11/03/2022 14:50

Sorry , they are all dreadful

Wedonttalkaboutrats · 11/03/2022 14:50

OP, you’re young. You’re not stupid. But you will regret any of those names when you’re a bit older. For the sake of your unborn child I beg you to reconsider.
