Girls name- classic but not “try hard”

Looking for inspiration! I am soooooo fussy about names and have read pages of threads here. I would a name that is classic, that most people would have heard of/ know how to spell, but is not popular. I reeeeally don’t like the current trend for very frilly/ over the top sounding names (sorry, just an opinion!)

I like:
Rosalind, Susannah, Alexandra (maybe a bit too popular), Juliet,

Dislike: Ottilie, Amelie, Freya, Ophelia, Verity, the whole Ada/Eva, Ivy Evelyn set etc

Margot, Clara etc becoming too popular

Don’t like too complex names like Arabella, Genevieve,

So if there is anyone left I haven’t offended would be great to hear your thoughts! 🙈

Rachel, Philippa, Katherine, Amelia

I would imagine that Sarah, Helen, Elizabeth, Rebecca are all fairly underused by now.

Cinnabomb · 08/03/2022 11:46

Phillipa on the maybe list

I see Amelia as very similar to the current overly vowel heavy names eg Amelie, as above. Just my opinion of course I understand lots of people like them.

Katherine, like Elizabeth, is a bit too popular for my liking.

I'm not a huge of Rosalind or Juliet but Susannah and Alexandra would be a refreshing change. Are you ok with Susie and Alex as nn? That list is names I associate with my generation rather than their children, how about.....

I agree with you on the Amelia/Ava/Eva/Evie/Mia etc. They are lovely names but I have seen so many babies given those names over the past few years, they are so popular.

I absolutely love Rosalind :)

Eleanor is nice but could be too popular too. Annaliese? Alison? Amber?

I don't know why I've gone all As there 😂

Eleanor/ Helen/ Ellen etc all very similar to close family member so they would be out.

I like Jocelyn, Phillipa

Really like Diana but is it useable? It’s such an iconic name I’m not sure anyone would think of anyone else other than Princess Di?

Sarah/ Rachel/ Clare/ Anna/ Laura all a little too much my generation. I was at school in the 90s and my class was filled with them!

Matilda/ Beatrice too popular for me (I know loads under 5!)

I think you could use Diana! IF you like Diana though, what about Dinah?
