I recently heard of an Elphinstone Dalgleish. Have also met a couple of kids called Star.

What fun/marvellous/slightly wacky names have you come across?

I also know sisters Melissa and Melinda, both mostly known as Mel and it's ridiculously confusing.

I worked with a girl called Rainbow... sadly she had not grown to her name. She was very serious and moody. Who knows maybe she liked challenging people's expectations of her name?!

I also know a girl called Snow.

My mum taught a Cardeen spelt Cardin. Turned out her mother got it off a scent bottle (Pierre Cardin)

I taught a girl called Song. She was partially Native American, and was delightful
She had a very mainstream surname.

I was once in the doctors waiting room and the name Oberon Bone flashed up on the screen and a young boy stood up.
I knew right then he was going to go places.

ImprobablePuffin · 16/01/2022 00:52

I also know a little baby Ignatius

Longingforatikihut · 16/01/2022 09:07

I work in a hospital lab. I once had samples from surnames, Shakespeare, Hemmingway, Dickens and Poe and lined up waiting to be tested. It was April first and I went to check I wasn't being pranked. But no, just a coincidence. I know not weird names but it threw me through a loop.

TankFlyBoss · 16/01/2022 09:58

Ignatov is a Russian surname, so prob the same as British using surnames as first names Smile I've seen some Russian names being suggested on the name boards here recently, seems like they're increasing in popularity: Ilya / Ilias Dimitri Natalya Alexei Sasha Ivan Misha Katya Polina Anya Yulia Roman

Ok I'm gone wayyy off topic hereGrin

I think the chap I looked after will sadly be dead now, he was in his 80s and this was 15+ years ago. Not a common surname so must be somewhere down the line. Lovely surname Smile

Lily019 · 17/01/2022 00:16

Had a friend at school in Spain called Olimpia and another called Ophelia, over 40 years ago so very original at the time, particularly as Spanish culture predominantly chose religious names back then. Met a Brazilian guy once called Diamondino Rey (Diamond King) and a couple of weeks ago a very exotic lady I work with called her newborn son Attila. Also know of a little boy whose middle name is Dragon.
