Muslim boy names- help me please

I think I posted about this before, but I’m nearly 36 weeks and we still have no names, so MN to the rescue! So to set the scene, I’m white brit and dh is brit pakistani. V large extended family on dh side means all the names id choose from the big book of Muslim baby names are gone (Zachariah, Haris, shoaib, kamran, Adam, Ali, layth, zayan, Ismail, ayan etc)

People keep on crapping on the names we / I do like. None of DH know we’re having a boy but they’ve crapped on them in passing. They are also hypercritical because of my heritage (we’ll leave that one there and not touch it because it’s a whole other thread)

My family are also quite Britain first in their mentality (again whole other thread) Neither mental side’s feeling will be strictly paid attention too but tbh I can do without the grief we got for DDs name on both sides, it was f’ing relentless.

So so far we like kinda but not properly.::

Aiden or aydin

Deen but spelt Dean

Asher

Rayan- my family would def have a problem with this name but aside from that it’s v v popular- I know about 4/5 people with a son called rayan so it dulls it a little for me.

It’s this or succumb to the footballer names DH keeps on suggesting

I sympathise. I only like girls' names too.

I'd go with AidanSmile

mrswormwood1 · 23/10/2021 22:00

Have this same problem
Ended up going with Zachary for my 2 year old son as I could pass it off as zachariya so it sounds more Islamic haha currently expecting and I can't think of any names for my new son we're set on zayn at the moment and I think it's modern and easy to pronounce and I think Zack and zayn is cute too!
Good luck! Boys names are hard x

I thought Aidan was a fully british catholic name. Aidan the saint of lindisfarne, Northumberland, I don't think it evokes any Muslim feelings at all

littlejalapeno · 23/10/2021 22:06

Ones not mentioned yet:

Addi
Hicham
Qasim
Marouane
Nazih (bit dodgy without the “h” though)

youvegottenminuteslynn · 23/10/2021 22:06

That's so interesting, Aiden / Aidan to me are super Irish names (I know lots!) so I would never have assumed they were also Muslim ones.

tulips27 · 23/10/2021 22:07

Rohan
Ilyas
Ziya
Ehsan

pinkgin85 · 23/10/2021 22:07

My sons name is Aydin and no one has ever made of his name, he's 6. Your husbands family sound rude and intrusive.

Muslim names too Aidan I think is a unisex name for tall palm tree and Aydin/Aiden is a Muslim boys name that means powerful x

Idrees?

Fiddlersgreen · 23/10/2021 22:11

Faraz
Raheem
Devin

Carolinesyear · 23/10/2021 22:12

Hmm maybe there are two aidans both with different routes but the name has been in Britain (namely Ireland) for thousands of years. If you wanted to go for a Muslim name that is immediately recognisable as such how about Ibrahim? It's a lovely name and Ibi for short

Wizzbangfizz · 23/10/2021 22:15

Imran or zayn or Dylan

Sleeplessem · 23/10/2021 22:16

I’d actually prefer a name more ambiguous, discrimination and all that x

I really like Idris (it’s also a mountain in Wales so def has British crossover appeal) and Ilyas (Illy for short is really cute).

Fiddlersgreen · 23/10/2021 22:20

Kian?

surreymum89 · 23/10/2021 22:20

Isaac?

@ZiggZagg I have a Zakariah too, spelt the same , how do you pronounce it?

Carolinesyear · 23/10/2021 22:21

I know what you mean, maybe Idris as after Idris Elba it'll be immediately recognisable and it's quite cool

Sackofnickles · 23/10/2021 22:22

I really like Hani, don't know if that's had a mention yet!

itssquidstella · 23/10/2021 22:22

Tarek/Tariq?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 23/10/2021 22:23

What about Akthar?
