Lily and Tulip as sibilings??

We already have a daughter, Lily and we are expecting another baby girl! we love floral names and have been thinking of Tulip, but we aren't sure if it's too weird since not many kids are named Tulip (we are also afraid she'll get picked on). What do you think? We were also thinking of names like Lavender, Hazel, Holly and Daisy.

I've never heard of Tulip as a name. I think Tulip and Holly perhaps are too close in sound to Lily. Hazel is pretty and less obviously floral?

MrsPresley · 08/02/2021 17:57

Personally I think it's a stupid name, but others will love it.

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Completelyunassertive · 08/02/2021 17:57

I've never heard of it as a name either but I love it! Lavender is lovely too! Primrose is another nice florally name

evouk · 08/02/2021 18:02

Daisy is v cute. Tulip, not so much

corlan · 08/02/2021 18:03

Iris and Lily go together nicely.

Lelophants · 08/02/2021 18:04

I love it. Just say it a million times and see how you feel. Do you mind people thinking it's odd?

Apileofballyhoo · 08/02/2021 18:06

Isn't tulip slang for idiot?

Libraryghost · 08/02/2021 18:07

Another vote for iris and lily. Daisy is a lovely name too. If you are really asking for an opinion tulip is just terrible

PCar20 · 08/02/2021 18:09

What about Iris?

PCar20 · 08/02/2021 18:09

Or Primrose?

Watto1 · 08/02/2021 18:12

I

surreymum89 · 08/02/2021 18:13

Favourite suggestion on here is Iris.

Watto1 · 08/02/2021 18:13

Sorry! I was going to say that Tulip can be slang for idiot too. “Don’t do that you Tulip!”

LeeMiller · 08/02/2021 18:14

Lily is floral but elegant and classic. Tulip is quirky but a bit twee and not very pretty sounding to my ears. They are very different types of names to me. I really dislike Lavender.

Daisy, Iris, Hazel, Marguerite, Rose, Ivy, Briar, Heather, Tansy, Violet are all prettier and go much better with Lily, in my opinion.

ArnoldBee · 08/02/2021 18:14

I read your initial post as Turnip - this may happen with others!

wifterwafter · 08/02/2021 18:22

Hyacinth
Rose
Angelica
Poppy
Ivy
Iris
Petunia
Delphine

Tianatiers · 08/02/2021 18:24

What about Heather or Fern? Lily is lovely. I like Hazel too.

Cornettoninja · 08/02/2021 18:27

I don’t think tulip really works as a name personally or Lavender. It depends how much you care what people think.

Hazel, Holly and Daisy are lovely. How do you feel about Heather?

stickygotstuck · 08/02/2021 18:27

I think it's lovely.

There is a reporter called Tulip can't remember if it's a regional or national channel. She looks mid-twenties and it really suits her. I can't say I batted an eyelid when I heard her name, I just vaguely thought it was unusual.

Eaumyword · 08/02/2021 18:29

Hazel, Holly, Violet, Delphine, Rose and Daisy are lovely.
Absolutely adore Iris.
Sorry, I think Tulip is too 'out there' and would fear for her at secondary school (two lips) meant rudely. Kids can be cruel Confused

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/02/2021 18:30

Tulip Mazundar, I think it is, @stickygotstuck - she’s on the BBC.

The only place I have seen Tulip as a name was in a Terry Pratchett book, where one of the villains is Mr Tulip.

GreenLeafTurnip · 08/02/2021 18:30

Oh god I read that as Lily and turnip 😂😂😂

finallychangedmyusername · 08/02/2021 18:31

Although they are clearly both floral names, Lily is very, very popular and Tulip is very obscure. I'm personally not a fan of it, mostly as it can be slang for idiot (as previous posters have commented).

Lily and Daisy, or Lily and Rose, or Lily and Holly, are a little twee but they won't always be introduced together.

Other non-floral suggestions that I'd expect a sister to Lily to be named:

Ella
Grace
Mia
Ava

AntiHop · 08/02/2021 18:31

There are so many beautiful floral names to choose from, and tulip isn't one of them.
